Yes, he's a former Buckeye great and seems like a nice enough guy, but I don't care. He really sucks at being a fair analyst in OSU games. He tries waaaay too hard to not appear biased towards his alma mater, (much worse than Herby). He usually takes the other side when it comes down to a close call by the official, even if it's obviously wrong.
But, moreover, how in the hell does he not think OSU deserves at least a 2 seed ?!? He kept saying 3-4 seed, and 3 at best if we win. Are you kidding me?
We're in the best conference, and just gritted out a tournament championship in that conference, closed the last few weeks stronger than any other team in the country, arguably. Oh, and we handled a top 2 Indiana team at their house. 2 seed is a no-brainer. He's just flat out wrong on this, and I'm shocked he was still saying towards the end of the Wisconsin game. He's foolish in regards to the 3 seed talk.
Go Bucks!

This is soooo true. Today he was totally trying to favor Wisconsin on questionable calls and it was obvious he just didn't want to seem pro OSU. I really don't care if he's pro OSU or not but it is obvious he wants to avoid looking that way. He even said we'd be a 3 seed if we won today. Is he crazy!? If we get a 3 seed after winning the BIG ten that will be blasphemous.
The comment about the 3 or 4 seed did catch me off-guard and is wrong. We're a 2 at best, 3 at worst and he should know this (Gottlieb just said that we're next to L'ville in terms of being hot entering the tourney). Whether we get it or not...
I think Special K is still very solid at his job. Hardly a fool.
Yes...overall he's good as an analyst, I just meant he was a fool on the subject of OSU's ceiling is a 3 seed.

I'll upvote you for that and my not exactly reading your thread correctly.
Plus, we all got what we wanted.
I really didn't have a problem with a lot of it until he and the rest of the CBS crew said they might have played themselves into a 3 seed, possibly a 2. Are you serious? Joe Lunardi had OSU as the #1 2-seed before the MSU victory. Their resume is just as good as Indiana's and should be considered for a 1. I'll gladly take a 2, especially if it is in Gonzaga's bracket, but to not even consider them a potential 1 after what they've done in March is ridiculous.
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
Gonzaga scares me with their bigs...I just have visions of that Kelly O. eating us up
Gotta have faith in Amir
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
Did you just say faith in amir?
Yikes! I think he played 9 minutes today - I'll have faith in the small quick lineup
I think it was a joke haha
it's pick your poison against all of the 1's, I just think Gonzaga would get bounced before OSU would potentially have to play them.
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
And Charles Barkley- says Michigan, Michigan state and Indiana have great players, the rest of the big10 just good teams/ not great teams, with no great players. He says the mountain west and PAC-12 are better conferences than the big 10. Smh.
That was painful to listen to. It was as if someone in his earpiece was saying, "Say something controversial, Chuck; we've got 15 minutes until selection time." He sounded like the kind of moron you meet at a cocktail party who "wants to talk sports." Turrible, as he himself would say.
We're used to this media hackery. Buckeyes vs. the world!
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
I too was shocked that CK was saying a 3 seed. Really!!! Closing the season with 8 consecutive wins in the best conference with a road win on the road over arguably the No. 1 overall seed during the regular season and an unprecedented 5th title in 10 years. Give me a break. I appreciate the attempt at being unbiased, but please Clark, give your alma mater some love.
Go8uck5!
Barkley, Jay Williams, and seemingly everyone else taking digs at OSU today. What the heck do we have to do to get some respect? Beat three top 5 teams? Win the B1G conference tournament? Win 8 in a row, including 5 over teams in the NCAA tournament?
Haters all around us. What else is new?
Great picture/meme! I'm planning on stealing it.

Well... They won today & they're a 2 seed in a decent bracket so opinions from sports analysts don't really bother me one way or another.

I doubt he actually took the time to sit and think about it.. he was announcing a game with a lot going around him, and he's likely not been able too watch too many different teams this year to compare. More so just taking a shot in the dark with his pick.
The hatters would get fired trying to be NOT like Special K.
Aside from his seeding comment, I find CK to be one of the finest announcers in NCAA hoops. Energetic, honest and extremely knowledgeable. And to be quite honest, OSU was probably a #3/#4 until they won the tournament.
agree...even with the win, found it surprising we were given a 2 but ill take it...as fars as CK goes, agree as well, i think he is one of the better basketball analysts out there at the college level
I personally love listening to any game Clark covers. I think he is smart, funny, and unique. He did annoy me yesterday, especially calling that mugging of Sam "incidental contact". BTW, how classy is Sam not to blow completely up and start throwing some round houses!!!
That said, Clark and Kirby are trying to be elite color analysts, and they know every hint of favoritism towards the Buckeyes is magnified one thousand times by the haters. I think that makes them error on the side against the Buckeyes most of the time. But they certainly don't hate Ohio State. I think they are overly concerned about perception if they sound like homers, and that can be annoying, but I don't know if I wouldn't do the same. Spielman has bugged me on occasion as well, and he is one of my favorite Buckeyes ever.

Lesson of the day: As long as it is during a dead ball, you may grab your opponents face. I do think that Berggren didn't mean to hit thompson in the head but it really doesn't matter about his intent in basketball. i.e. I'm sure most big men dont intend to foul on a layup--but it doesn't change the fact that it's a foul.
I think the thing that annoys me the most is even when the call from the official is obviously wrong Kellog ALWAYS AGREES with the refs. Every single time. That is what annoys me.
I don't think Kellog was the far off. We were almost a 3 seed. Sure we got a 2, but the 4th 2. I was really thinking they had a shot at the number 1, 2 seed and have the regional in Indy. That would of been fun. I may still grab tickets and go. I went to the regional in 2009 in Indy, it was a great time.
They said they removed the "S" seeding, so there are no rankings of "best 2 seeds," in addition to Lunardi having us as a 2 before the MSU game. I think that's why people are so irked at the commentators' lack of respect by talking about a 4 seed.
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
Prior to the championship game, only Lunardi had OSU as a #2. Palm at CBS(which broadcast the B10 Tournament) had OSU as #4 for several weeks. Just because they see things different than one other analyst does not mean they were being disrespectful.
Where did you see the removal of the "s" rankings? I saw on a few sites the 1-68 rankings and they both had OSU at #8.
some part of the committee was on ESPN yesterday talking about it. He said that they ranked them 1-68 like you said, but the worst 2 wasn't matched with the best 1, etc. It was simply geographical past the 1 seeds.
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
Were's the love folks....???? I agree...some things Herby and others like Clark say are at times a bit off. However...give them the love they deserve. It's not like they can be biased or should be towards OSU. Even Mark May (who I hate) still does this with Pitt. They can give the occasional shout outs...but that's about it (I've seen Joey Galloway say). It's because the place that now pays their checks says EPSN on it. You all can make up as many complaints as you want (and I'll be the first to say some are warranted). However, don't forget...they have to be unbiased...it's a part of their job. I'll say it once and forever when I see these threads...why not at Chris Spielmen??? He does the same thing...but no ones says anything. I seem to remember him saying stuff last year (same that I did) about the defensive side of the ball...funny...no comments about him. Oh well....Go Bucks!

I feel the same way about announcers that are former Buckeyes, just hate that they aren't allowed to bring the love to tOSU that they would probably prefer to do.
I suggest keeping the TV on but listening to Paul Keels' simulcast on the radio if you can get him in your area. He is a great announcer and certainly gives the Buckeyes their deserved props.
Clark overall is a very good analyst. He does say things from time to time that leave me scratching my head. Certainly the "3 or 4 seed" comment did, as well as the whole "incidental contact" thing (MY ASS) with Sam Thompson yesterday.
Class of 2010.
Guys, Clark's seeding comments were off the cuff comments made during a game broadcast. Cut the dude some slack. It's not like he was trying to slight OSU. He is calling a game as he sees it. I think part of the issue with us as fans is that we analyze every single little comment or remark that is said during a broadcast to the point where a guy can't win. A couple years back when OSU played Kentucky in the Sweet 16, Kentucky fans accused him of being an OSU homer. Even this weekend people have accused him of being an OSU homer, which is funny because I get on on here and OSU fans are commenting about him not being fair to OSU. The guy can't win.
Trust me though. Clark Kellogg is a Buckeye through and through. I have heard him interviewed multiple times and his love for Ohio State runs deep.
I've never been rubbed the wrong way by Clark Kellogg.
Herbstreit, on the other hand, I can understand it. I specifically remember how he went out of his way to bash us during the Alamo Bowl broadcast, and dropped us in ranking after beating Arkansas a few years ago. I also get tired of him talking about "speed" and gravitating toward what is the flavor of the day. I swear, he had a crush on Chip Kelly.
Kellogg is weak.
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
Charles Barkley, "The most overrated conference" (in claims to the Big 10). Got another commentator on my shit list. If we are the most overrated conference, who is the best conference? Certainly not the Mountain West and the Big 10 already eliminated a couple from PAC 12 country.

Funny how he said he wouldn't give any props to the B1G unless Minnesota and Illinois won today. Wouldn't ESPN call that an upset if either one of those happened? I loathe ESPN commentators.

I could not disagree more with the post RE: Kellogg. He's very good, IMO, at balancing his obvious love for OSU with his obligation to be a fair and honest as a CBS analyst. Herbstreit? He bends over backwards to prove to his audience that he's not a "homer", so much so that he comes off as a Buckeye detractor. If it were just a handful of Ohio State fans who felt this way about Herbstreit then maybe I'd tell myself that I'm being too sensitive... but a large contingent of us have similar opinions regarding Herbstreit. I'm at the point that when Herbstreit is pontificating (as he loves to do) on ESPN I simply mute the television. Herbstreit is self important, arrogant and pompous... Kellogg? Thoughtful, articulate and fair... while making it known that he's a Buckeye.
Who cares! He's an announcer! What do you want him to do? Come out and say: 'I love Ohio State! Its the greatest University ever created! No one can match us in anything! Everybody kneel to us!'? The criticizing of everybody that doesn't love OSU like we do is getting stupid! Who cares if Mark May doesn't like us! Who cares if Sportscenter didn't show any highlights of us! Who cares if Charles Barkley runs his flaps about the B1G being overrated! Who cares if Herbie ranked us lower than we thought he should have! Does it really matter? I'm proud to be a Buckeye just like the rest of you but the whining over somebody's opinion has got to settle down! Go Bucks!
well I agree to disagree. Kellogg seems like one of the nicest guys you'd ever meet, and he IS insightful. But, it's glaringly obvious that he will always end up siding with the refs and playing devil's advocate against OSU. It's becoming old now.
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
Amir.. How can you be the tallest guy on the court buy yet be terrible in the paint..
Agree. He does always play devils advocate against us but I guess if I were in his shoes I might think of doing the same thing. Wouldn't want to get called out or be known as the guy who shows favoritism towards his alma mater in a profession based on neutrality. That's why he goes out of his way on the 50/50's to side against OSU. I don't blame him one bit and think he's a great commentator.
At this point in his career I wonder if he still is a really big Ohio State fan. I know he went to school at tOSU, but with his career as an announcer he has to try so hard to be impartial I wonder if he and most announcers just give up and try to follow as many teams as possible without being partial. I wish he was a big homer announcer and would be pro-buckeye every game he calls but then he would not be very good at his job in my opinion.
With that being said, he does go too far the other way sometimes. We saw it today in the game against Iowa State when Scott had that terrible call on him when the players were all diving on the floor. At first he was very doubtful of the call, but then it was almost like he realized he could be coming across as too OSU oriented so he was backing the foul call even though it was clearly a terrible call, and one that was definitely not a call that should have been made.
I personally feel like I would like him more if he had not gone to OSU and was just a random announcer. He is insightful, and does a good job for almost every other game I have heard him call.
Roll with it.
He's on the Board of Trustees, for pete's sake.

I think he does a great job and is very fair.
Our honor Defend!
He has the job for a good reason. You whiners don't, for an even better reason.
I thought Scott clearly fouled the Iowa State player as he dove for the ball. As three Buckeye fans watched the game together here, there was disagreement amongst us on the call. That does not make any one of us here less a fan or less loyal to OSU, nor does it make Clark Kellogg any less a Buckeye fan for seeing that as a foul on Scott.
Kellogg's job is to call it like he sees it. He, or any game commentator, will never appease any fan base 100% of the time nor should they be expected to. My guess is that IF fans across the country were surveyed, Clark Kellogg would be one of, if not the best, commentators in the game.
That was a truly great ending today to the game and a terrific win for OSU. Teams that win in the tourney usually have to survive a close game, or two, along the way, to harden their resolve. This game today should benefit the Buckeyes going forward. Go Bucks!
This ^
Wont have to listen to him until the Final 4 at least...
I disagree. I think he does a good job staying neutral. He follows the flow if the game. I'd rather listen to a former Buckeye like Clark/Herbie than others. I live having Buckeyes as color commentators.
