Multiple sources are now reporting that The General will be ousted as an ESPN analyst when his contract expires at season's end.
In happier news, Coach Knight's book The Power of Negative Thinking drops March 5, and the Coach will be signing copies at the NCAA Hall of Champions in Indy the next day.
As with the commenters in the Awful Announcing story, I can think of 100 ways ESPN could have better used Knight as an analyst than sitting him courtside as a color guy.

I'm failing to understand more and more by the day as to what exactly the 'E' in ESPN stands for.
"Success - it's what you do with what you got" - Woody Hayes
SEC, East coast, Tebow, Heat, Duke I could go on but I won't.
Speaking of Bob Knight books: I went to an antique store with my wife last year and I was going through shelves of books looking for a rare gem. I saw a copy of Knight's autobiography called "Knight: My Story" on the shelf and began to flip through the first few pages. There was a piece of paper that had the name "John Thompson" written on it, then on that page in the book were written the words "To John, Best Wishes, Bob Knight".
So yeah, I found an autographed copy of Knight's book and gave $5 for it. At the time I wasn't sure if the autograph was real or fake, but I've studied a little bit on Knight's signature, and if the signature in the book is fake, it's a really good forgery. The piece of paper with the recipient's name on the same page as the signature also leads me to believe it is real.
Now if we could just replace the chair with an ESPN executive
Battles are sometimes won by generals; wars are nearly always won by sergeants and privates. Football is no different, the guys down in the trenches win the games, not the coach.
Knight was obviously a great success as a coach but he was a guy who insisted the world bend to him and it really doesn't do that for anyone. It really is a shame as he has an amazing basketball mind but just expected the world to adjust to him rather than the other way around.
One of my favorite windows into Bobby Knight was the miniseries "Knight School" ESPN ran when he was still coaching at Tech. They followed a handful of would-be walk-ons going through camp with The General. Awesome show that gave you another glimpse into the mind of a genius of the game.
Coach Knight was great. I learned alot from his broadcasts. Compare him and Bill Rafferty for one. Rafferty tells old stories and say stuff like good shot. Coach Knight really breaks down the game. He is the best.
Collards
I would love to see him in a active role at OSU. It was awesome seeing him on the big screen at the IU game saying how much he loves the Buckeyes.
He could be the face of OSU basketball in the place of the late Fred Taylor and help pass the torch from the late great Buckeye teams of the 60's to Matta now. Matta will pass Taylor as the winningest Buckeye bball coach ever in about 2-3 years and it would be great on so many levels to see The General be there to hand the reigns of Buckeye ball greatness to Matta.
OSU should have hired Knight as there coach about 30-40 years ago and by bringing him home now would lesson the pain of that screw up.
Its good to be the king
Is there a spot open on the 11W staff? The General's Forum comments would be a hoot...
~Naples Buckeye - "May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't." - General George S. Patton, Jr.
Hell yes, he could mod the NSFW forum.
well played! lol...
So when does BTN pick up his contract?
Yes please. I'm confident that Bobby Knight knows more about college football than Chris Martin.
Keep Calm and Ignore the Trolls.
I wonder if Knight has ever been bird hunting with Cheney & If they were able to get anybody else to join them.
I only watch ESPN when a game is on. I just can't take their lame attempts at "analysis." They don't analyze anything, instead they say the most incendiary thing they can think of in hope of engaging viewers. (Ok some guys are pretty good at breaking things down but it is always very elementary)
Any network that employs Skip Bayless, Stephen A. Smith, and Mark May doesn't deserve my eyeballs.
Let's get a kick starter for this idea: like an SAP button, an ASA button or Advanced Sports Analysis. lame people doing commentary for unsophisticated fans- could be traded for sophisticated analysis at the touch of a button.
I like the guy, but I'm sure this has nothing to do with it:
I like football
Digger could have been a little more discreet - maybe kick the guy under the table instead of tapping him with the pen... That clip is hilarious...
I don't think he really fell asleep here..looked more like he was hating his decisions from the "knight" before...see what I did there? I'll be here all week folks, please tip your wait staff!
Here's defense exhibit #1 as to why IU really screwed the pooch when the ran The General out of town. He is a giant among men.
