I can't believe there hasn't been a thread started on this yet. I know it was garbage time. I know we got embarassed. I know we're all mad about the game, but I was a little impressed. We've known all year that Amedeo can shoot but he actually displayed a little poise and good basketball IQ. The fact that he wears Diebler's number and the resemblance (skin color) makes me feel like its 08 all over again. We're going to recruit some big time talent in the next few years but I think Amedeo is going to find a nice home in the rotation. Effort and smarts are pretty high on the list for Thad and I think this kid has it. I'll stop my profession of love for him now, anyone agree with me?

Actually, Wisconsin had 4 starters in when he came in the game. He struggled a little on defensive (but to be fair, our whole team did all game) but I did like how much poise he showed on offense. Hit two threes and would've had a third but a moving screen was called after he put the shot up
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
*hit one three, and the 2nd was negated by a moving screen.
I'm with ya on ADV!

Kid can play.
The most popular guy in the city of Chicago is the back up quarterback for the Bears. He doesn't even have to be good, he just has to be someone other than the starter that isn't popular. I fear this is the same thing going on. There's a reason this guy hasn't played a lot yet-people are calling for him to get more PT-I wonder if because he's 'someone else'.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
I think it is because when he shoots the ball it does something really weird...something you don't see very often with this team. The experts tell me its call "a made fg" whatever that means? but its cool the ball actually goes through the metal hoop that is attached to the glass backboard making a "swish" sound created by the net making contact with the ball.
%41 from the field, %38 from the arc. Hardly lights out...
Now I'm willing to venture into a sample size conversation here. Again, there is a reason he isn't playing-I'll trust the guy calling the shots, not people who want to see someone play because he isn't Craft or Slam or Amir or Lenzelle.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
Brewster have you ever played the game? Ever play with NBA talent before? I have and I know what I see out there. Not saying my basketball ability or experience makes me a better judge of talent then you but maybe it does?
The kid has a great shooting stroke and can create off the dribble for his team. He hustles he ass off too.
No, I haven't. What does that have to do with anything? So you are saying that ADV should get starters minutes because you have played against NBA talent before? More weak sauce coming from you, which is not the norm-which lends creedence to my theory that losing makes otherwise sane people go insane.
But eff it, I'll bite. If he does all these things your trained eye can see, why isn't he getting more minutes?
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
Thad Brewster. You have to ask Thad because I can't answer that. All I know is when you have no outside shooter on the floor you become very easy to stop in the half court offense. I'm not trying to be a dick or argue just telling you my view.
That's sorta my point though. I'm not saying what you just said isn't true. OSU has no second shooting option and ADV is the logical choice because of what his strengths supposedly are. With that said, if he isn't on the floor, I have to believe Matta knows something we all don't. The guy (Thad) has enough credit with Ohio State that he doesn't have to answer why he isn't playing a lightly recruited true freshman.

Mama,(former English Teacher [ caps on 'Teacher' intentional ] ), used to say, " 'but' is a conjunction that is directly contradictory to everything previously stated young man, so don't but me unless you're a Billy-Goat!" : I boxed many moons, can I see talent in fighters because of that, yes, but............
Totally agree with BrewstersMillions. 1-2 from the field, 0-1 from the line. Settle. Down. Not to mention that he lost his guy on D multiple times - the one triple he hit, on the very next possession he lost Brust, who drilled a wide-open three of his own.
It seems like the fans so badly want one of the bench guys to be some kind of diamond in the rough that nobody knows is secretly awesome, and once he starts getting more PT he's going to be the magic elixir that makes the team awesome. This is unrealistic. The kid scored 3 points in 10 minutes of garbage time in a game where the Bucks got eviscerated. Excuse me if I'm not exactly clamoring for him to start.
Its not garbage time when the other team has their starters in the game first off. Secondly, he hit two three's and I don't care what that ref says about a moving screen vs a team up by 20+ bad call.
Amedeo can spread the floor because he has shown the ability to hit WIDE OPEN 3's the ball goes into Thomas hands ADV's guy helps Thomas kicks for the 3... money. Get use to that because I promise you its coming. Look at how happy Thomas was to see ADV on the floor yesterday he knows that will open things up for him.
But what the fuck do I know I'm not making 3 mil a year to coach these kids.
No, you just 'played against NBA talent' so that alone makes you the expert. Not the guy who's put banners up in VCA.

TAMPA IS FIGHTING BREWSTER!
Shotgun on Morpheus. I called it.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
Does that make me Trinity? I'm oddly okay with that.
Ha, no.
Who's Morpheus ?
I ask because 1 woke the other up, remember?
That movie changed the game on special effects forever.
Kid can shoot...Brewster, he is someone different yes..but he also has potential to be that outside danger that people have to account for. Right now other than DT we have no one that is a consistent threat.
Maybe I'm wrong and I'm sure Thad has his reasons for not playing him yet but I liked what I saw in Garbage time.
"Garbage time"
That's my point. Losing makes otherwise logical people go crazy. In 2011 Jay Cutler was injured in the NFC title game against the Packers, his then back up Caleb Hanie famously lead the Bears to near victory over Green Bay. For the next year and a half, Bears fans had to endure calls for Hanie as the starter because he "had what Cutler didn't and was tough and much better". During the 2011 regular season, Jay had to Bears off to a 7-2 start with at least the number 2 seed in the playoffs all but certain. Cutler broke his hand chasing down a defender that intercepted a tipped pass and was lost for the year-Hanie (the people's champ) came in and the Bears went 0-5 in his stead.
The point I'm making-just because its different doesn't mean its good. There's a reason Hanie didn't see (and hasn't seen) the field. There's a reason ADV isn't on the floor. I'm not saying the guy can't play but he shouldn't be getting starters minutes just because he dropped a shot or two when OSU was already dead in the water.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
I don't think I said he should be starting, but if I did I was off my rocker. I think just maybe bring him in rather than LQR 1 out of 3 times off the bench and see if he's hot that night.
who knows, he gets on a roll...gains confidence...three years from now he's breaking Deiblers record. IT COULD HAPPEN...lol
also just as a side note...not a fan of your analogy with the backup QB thing...it's a bench player in college providing a little bit of a spark...you compared what I said to replacing DT with Della Valle..not what I meant at all.
BREWSTER --- you're profile pic should be in the 11W Hall of Fame someday
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
Della Valle to me looks like someone who is going to need time to acclimate himself to the B1G. He's as ungainly looking now as McDonald was a year ago. McDonald looks a little better today, as long as he isn't shooting free throws. By next year, he ought to be a legit rotation guy. That's basically what I see as ADV's upside--a 10 minutes-a-game player. He's never going to be Jon Diebler, who showed enough to play a lot as a freshman even though he didn't shoot all that well.
Not to go too far off topic, but one issue with this program has been our failure to keep these non-star types around for all 4 years, to the point where they can serve as reliable bench depth and leaders by the time they are seniors. The pattern here in the Matta era has been that if you aren't in the rotation by the time you finish your freshman year, you're almost destined to transfer out eventually. (Ravenel is that type of player, but he transferred in instead.) Perhaps McDonald and Della Valle will be the exceptions, because it's not like either guy is going to make himself NBA-ready by going to Eastern Michigan or that sort of thing.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
Debunking claim 1:
DV cannot create anything off the dribble despite the claims above that he can. He is a spot up shooter that hurts us defensively when he is in.
Claim 2:
He is nowhere near where Diebler was as a freshman. Diebler did not look like he was lost. On the plus side (and possibly because he is skinnier) DV looks slightly faster than Diebler. However, DV gets beaten to every loose ball, so what's the diff.
Point 3:
Diebler played on better teams and had the luxury of playing with inside threats. So we could both afford to play Diebler and have him benefit from a kickout mentality that cannot be implemented with a weak interior team
Della Valle probably isn't seeing as much pt now besause he is a liabiity on the defensive end. Yhad values good D over everything else. If ADV isn't playing solid D but hits every three he shoots he won't see the floor. Hopefully offseason work and a few more lbs. on his frame he can get some more minutes.
This team gave up a ton of points to Wisconsin without ADV on the floor. He did have a block and got his hands in on a couple of loose balls.
Everyone has allowed someone to score at some point in time. If he was such a poor defensive player we could easily hide him with a zone but that just isn't the case he is athletic enough to play on an International level so for some reason I think he will do enough to play winning basketball.
I like Della Valle. He still gets lost on D, but the kid can shoot. I say let him play more and build for the future. Can't see this team reaching the goals they wanted now..
I agree with most of the comments. I wasn't trying to say he deserves 20 minutes a game but he showed a little. I think he could be a valuable weapon with some experience. Your going to look a little lost out there when all you've done for the last year is practice. He has nowhere near the talent, but he reminds me a little of RDS his freshman year. He makes a lot of mistakes but you can see some potential.
We leave enough guys open on the perimeter. The last thing we need is another guy that gets burned laterally and lets guys create shots. It's not worth an offensive boost that would be marginal at best to forfeit and entire defensive position.
We have 2 great on ball defenders in Craft and Scott. We have a good one in Slam. Other than that our man defense is nothing great. In order for this team to ever get anywhere they need to play better TEAM defense. We are never in position to help. Our off ball defense is terrible. I'd rather have 5 mediocre defenders on a string than have 5 great on ball defenders.
Agree with all except that Scott is not a great on-ball defender; he gets beat pretty often.
A Williams has almost zero team defensive instinct. If he does not block the shot he is less than worthless as the other players assume that his spot on the floor is covered. Interior passing makes him luck foolish: see, for example, the Duke game
