Cavs received maurice speights wayne ellington josh selby and a 1st rd pick for..... jon leuer. Great work by chris grant. Speights provides imediate help in the paint with andy out for yr. Ellington is an upgrade at backup sf and selby has crazy potential and the 1st rd pick is only top 5 protected. Fabulous move.
I didn't even know we had Jon Leuer.
He was playing for the canton charge. D league affiliate

Well, yeah clearly he wasn't on the active roster haha
He played in the first handful of games and was pretty dreadful (which was strange because he was actually pretty solid in Milwaukee). He then got demoted to the D-leauge but has been back up on the 12-man roster for a while...he just didn't see the floor anymore. This was a blatant cash dump by the Grizz and a so-so move for the Cavs, mainly just nice getting another big man in Speights to take on center since Andy's out and Tyler Zeller seems a bit out of his league right now (but shows signs of improvement).
I've been pleasantly surprised with Zeller. Sure, he needs to get a LOT stronger, but he has good hands and a very nice touch around the basket. I think he'll be a serviceable big man in time.
I agree that I believe he's going to be a serviceable big man and solid role player for us. I thought when we got him it was a major steal. He just seems out of sorts sometimes and I thought he'd be a lot more fundamentally sound coming off severl years in college where he seemed to be fairly fundamentally sound. He has a lot of bad turnovers, gets taken out of position on D and somehow manages to travel constantly (how he can get called for traveling in the NBA so much is beyond me, but whatever). I think he will be a solid player he just seems like he's in a bit over his head sometimes. I think once he gets a little more comfortable he'll do well. He's got the size and athleticism to be a solid contributor.
It was a salary dump by the Grizzlies.
Not sure if anyone other than Speights stays with the Cavs after next year. Wayne Ellington is a borderline future player but Selby is a poor man's Kyrie, minus the 30-point games.

That's the beauty of this move. All 2 yr contracts and off the books after next season. Nice trade bait for book clearers. And getting that 1st rd pick added was magic

So the Cavs have three 1st rounders?
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Yeah that 1 st round pick is future though. Not this year or next but good move none the less.
Jim Tressel vs. Rich Rod = Urban Meyer vs. Brady Hoke
The 1st rounder is a 2015, at the earliest. It is protected on both sides, meaning that the Cavs get it if it's between 6-14. The trade was designed this way because the Grizz want to keep it if it is a top 5, and the Cavs don't want it if it isn't a lottery pick.
Loved the move and the Cavs are probably not done dealing.
Gibson, Casspi, Walton all have expiring contracts NBA teams love that, then on top of that Speights may have some teams around the league wanting a big man pressence. I would rather keep him but he only has one year left so if they can net something else out of him and Gibson, Casspi, Walton I say move them. Especially Walton he is worthless.
this deal means nothing compared to what Kyrie Irving is doing. That kid is mad good!
Somewhat sad to say I am a raptors fan. During my formative years I was developing a liking for basketball and was looking for a team. I didn't want to be a bandwagoner so when the new franchises came about, I chose the Raptors (I think I was around 14 and didn't hate the velociraptor namesake). Its been about as rough being a Raps fan as Cavs fan, so I feel Cavs fans pain. That shot from Irving this weekend was a killer. I'd give anything to get a #1 like Irving or Lebron, only #1 overall we have ever gotten is Andrea Bargnani and he sucks!
Keep loading up because you guys have some good pieces. Hopefully my Raps can get there too.
