Was worried about him going to the NBA last May, and I'm glad he stayed in Columbus.
I'm not an NBA scout, or a person of any basketball skill. After watching the first 7 games of this OSU basketball season, it seems to my untrained eye that Thomas may need to stay till his Senior season, to become NBA ready. Simply not fast enough, up and down the court. On many occassions, he is the 5th Buckeye joining the OSU half court offense.
His hot streaks are amazing things, but his outside shot is not consistent enough to a make an NBA roster for multiple years either.
Not hating here. Love DeShaun as a Buckeye. I Just think he's got some of work ahead of him to be NBA quality.

He's a lot like Paul pierce. Lefty. Slow. Somehow finds a way to keep scoring. Streaky 3 pt shooter. I think Q is the stronger NBA prospect.
Q maybe slower than D.T., with less ball handling skills in traffic.
Pierce is not a lefty, but I agree with the rest of your analysis. When you watch Pierce move it seems inexplicable that he can score against the athletic defenders in the NBA.
When told OSU set school record for 50+ games this year, UFM said "That's good. We're gonna break that next year."
He's also in his mid 30s.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Pierce scores because of his unbelievable body control and hand eye coordination. I've seen enough of both guys to know that unfortunately DT does not have the body control and hand eye Pierce does, and doesn't have the athleticism to be a great NBA scorer any other way. He will fill a role as an NBA 3 point specialist, and may have a long career. But he is nothing like Pierce.
Huh. Could've swore he was. Guess we all make mistakes commenting from bed in the wee hours of the weekend.
I really don't see speed being that big of a factor. Is he fast? No. But a lot of teams in the NBA run half court sets, and as long as he can keep up with the big men he will be fine. No issue here.
Edit: have you seen Dwyane Wade lately? Granted he is hurt, and he picks his spots to run, but he still isn't that fast.
Wayne Woodrow Hayes
His inability to create his own shot will probably limit him to being a role player. He reminds me of Robert Horry. Not great athletes, but can knock down shots.
I think Thomas may find a role in the NBA, but he's pretty limited to being an scorer...he doesn't rebound well for his size & position, and I see him struggling to create his own shot in the NBA.
Paul Pierce college stats: 6'7" 220lbs. 20.4 pts, 6.7 reb, 2.6 assists, 34.5% 3pt. He somehow over the years has figured out to still do okay against faster longer athletes like Lebron but they always give him much more trouble than the Carlos Delfino's of the world.
Paul Pierce has superior footwork. Doc Rivers was asked about Pierce and his "slowness". Rivers said that is what all the rookies think when they come in. Thait is until Pierce works them over in the first practice. Awesome.
I think Thomas will do well in the NBA.
Has very limited ball handling, can't drive the lane, limited explosiveness, poor defense, cant isolate to find his shot. Will be tough for him
poor defense is right. I see him dogging it WAY too often on turnovers, help D, etc.
He needs some of that SEC SPEEEEEEED! lol j/k
I don't think it's that big of a factor for DT.
Class of 2010.
Yup. Magic was also quite slow. Basketball is a sport of angles and positioning.
Grandma was slow. But she was old. I think DeShaun will be fine.
Let's just hope DeShaun doesn't end up the same as the player he reminds me most of... Adam Morrison. cringe.
YES
if you can put the ball in the hole and have a knack for offensive rebounding there is a spot for you
