I really can't get excited for basketball this year. I know, weird, but it's true. I guess I'm too excited for football next year. I know we're supposed to have a good team, but a full season of home games at the 'Shoe can really get people excited for the next season. I unfortunately had the displeasure of being in a midterm when tickets went on sale for basketball, so I may not go to any games this season.
Anyone having this problem where they can't focus on anything other than Buckeye football and can't think about basketball?

I was at the NKU game today, and I have to say I was impressed with how the entire student section was packed. Also, I have to say that I find Buckeye basketball just as fun to watch, and probably more fun to watch in person than football. Blasphemy, I know. I really wish they'd expand the student section to more of the lower bowl, all of those seats covered by tarps were a bit disappointing.
So, in summary, I'm definitely psyched for this season, this team has serious potential.
They need to give students the whole lower bowl, that's the only way the Schott will ever be a truly intimidating environment on a consistent basis
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Agreed. Cameron Indoor seats ~9,500, but has a student section of ~2,500, the same as ours, only the Schott seats nearly 20,000. For the Schott to be consistently intimidating like Cameron Indoor, the Breslin or Kohl Center, or Assembly Hall, Smith will need to increase the size of the student section.
They would never fill the lower bowl with students...especially with the early schedule.

I wouldn't be so sure. Tickets sold out of the lower student sections and upper student section in under five minutes. Demand is always high.
I showed up 45 minutes before Northern Kentucky and was put behind the basket. That means there were enough students to fill the whole side that showed up prior to 45 minutes before the game. And, as stated, the outrage of students who didn't get tickets seemingly was greater than another 1400 tickets (I believe that is how many lower bowl tickets are sold now filling half the bowl). I have no doubt we'd fill it up with students most games

I was there about 30 minutes before kickoff and behind the basket as well. There is definitely far more demand than supply when it comes to student tickets. I have no doubt that OSU's student section would fill up for every home game.
I will probably never be quite as excited for Buckeye basketball. Football just happens to be my favorite sport.
Class of 2010.
I'll be pumped for bball by the time KU rolls into town!
Its because the offense has been painful to watch
I know Smith is a better shooter than last year but his shot just never looks like natural
kind of like Chris Jents was.
Scott, Thompson and Williams offensive games are extremely limited
Ravenel even though improved is still pretty much a banger
Craft I think hates to shoot and is surprised when it goes in
Amadeus can barely see the rim through his hair
Leaves us with Ross who I think the fans have more confidence in than Thad
and Thomas who has evolved into a complete player which why I dont understand why Matta hasn't allowed Ross to do the same thing
I'm a friend of thunder is it any wonder lightning strikes me
I have the same struggle on a yearly basis. I cheer for all OSU sports, but I would certainly not consider them all equal. Football will always be first with basketball right after it.
I'm very excited. The uncertainty is part of what draws me this year. Who will step up? Because I can't focus on football, it's the best sport out there. Besiides, Deshaun and Q are so exciting to watch!
Nope. I'm totally psyched for hoops. Go Bucks!
I'm a big OSU basketball fan and have been since Gary Williams was @ OSU in the 80's. Every year I look forward to basketball season, even in the past when I knew they were not gonna be good. I love football and I get the whole "OSU is a football school" thing. Football is king. I also get that not everyone digs basketball, and that's fine. I hear the "Wake me up when it's March" line pretty much every year.
My word of advice, while basking in the excitement of anticipation for next year's football team, give Matta and the basketball team a little time and attention.
If any of you haven't been to a blow out victory yet this year, I reccomend trying to get to one. The students reaction everytime Amedeo touches the ball is priceless

I don't know how he can play with the student section yelling at him to shoot from 50 feet out.

I appreciate that we are a "football school" but personally I'm a bigger basketball fan. I can't get enough coverage of them. But I understand it will always be second fiddle to football. Take Saturday for example, there were more articles about the B1G championship on 11W that we weren't in than the Buckeyes basketball game (although I realize we were playing NKU).
I always enjoy going to the basketball games, but I only go to 2-3 Big Ten games per year. This team will be good but not great. I'll still root like crazy but it looks like IU's year to win the conference. I see the complaints about Thad as similar to those about Tressel. If he's way more of a risk taker this year's team could mature enough to make a long tournament run. But he's not. He'll play 7 guys once Janurary hits. They'll win a bunch of games with a ceiling of the Sweet 16. Anything more will be a surprise, same as Tressel's teams winning a bunch of games but never only reaching the pinnacle once. If Thad didn't get there with Oden or the 2011 team, it simply may never happen. But it will certainly be fun to watch, root, and enjoy the ride.
Thad did get there with Oden, he made it to the big stage and his team let him down by shooting unbelieveably terrible from beyond the arc. Thad is most certainly not the one keeping this team from winning it all.
Also, I see 8 guys playing in B1G play: Craft, Smith, Thomas, Thompson, Ravenel, Williams, Scott, Ross

I always have this problem. I have basketball on all levels. To me it is a boring sport, and I used to play basketball in high school. For me it is ONLY about college football. It is going to be a long off season. Where is Alex with my recruiting updates LOL.
Yes there are two Buckeyes in Ann arbor on this site!
I look forward to reading Kyle Rowland's articles.
The fact that this could happen at any moment should get everyone excited:
