I tried to buy the single game on BTN.com and got nowhere. They should really look into making that sort of purchase a little easier to accomplish. I will be checking justin.tv and first row also around game time. Hopefully one of us will find it and share! Go bucks!
Not all that surprising. Anyone who doesn't think the offense is going to be a huge work in progress is kidding themselves. I know it's just a pointless exhibition game, but I'm going to continue thinking we're overrated until I see what they do against Duke and Kansas. I think this will be a team that improves significantly once conference play starts.
This is a weaker Buckeye team than the last two years, and maybe the year before that. This isn't panic based on this one meaningless game; it's just a common sense observation based on the lack of significant additions and the lack of a track record of so many of the returnees.
I don't know. Matta loses talent, BJ, Kufos, etc...but continues to have good to great teams. This score isn't all that scary and doesn't define how they will do the rest of the year. I'll keep my high hopes and expectations a little longer.
Yes we did lose to Findlay that year and our Micheal Redd / Scoonie Penn Final Four* team lost to Toledo early in the season so I'm not worried at all. We will be very very good...been a season ticket holder for 11 years and the one thing I've learned is the preseason games (scores) mean nothing.
Final score was 83-71. It was just an exhibition, so nothing to be too concerned about. Matta played a lot of different guys. Thompson and Scott were the most impressive.
Interesting. In the post-game comments Thad said this is the first time he's had a team that has played harder in practice than in a game. I think the scoreline probably is a reflection of that. If Thad is excited about this team, I am too! Just an exehibition...
Lots of guys rotated in and out. Defense was pure slop and Walsh was draining threes. Slop aside there were several blocked shots by Ross and Amir. So that's encouraging. Speaking of Ross, he had 13pts and didn't look too bad.
Thad said in his post game interview that this is his first team that played harder in practice than they did in the game. So there's that.
Pop-a-shot started out a little cold (to be expected) but he got it rolling in the second half. I think he ended up with 23(?).
Craft was his usual self. Scrappy, diving for loose balls and also got a three to drop for him right before the half time buzzer.
Mr Smith jr had himself a nice fast break dunk off a steal. Watching him work on the defensive end on that particular Walsh possession brought back images of Dave Lighty. Never a bad thing.
Della Valle in all his curly afro greatness looked like this was his first game for Ohio State. Once he settles down and they get him comfortable in the offense I think he has a good enough stroke to contribute nicely. Seemed like he put good effort on the defensive end but needs to sure that up to see the floor consistently.
Ravenel was also his typical self. Decent on the offensive end and could improve defensivly. He did show off a nice hook though.
Sam Thompson looks like he wants to ball. To me he looked eager and ready to be a part of things on a regular basis. A few miss timed alley-oop attempts away from being Mr Highlight Reel.
Shannon Scott and Craft on the floor at the same time is where it's at. I think that will be really fun to watch this season. Those two, Smith jr, Amir and Ross I think will be money in the up tempo stlye for this year.
WARNING: Some, none, all, most or a little of these thoughts could be inacurate as they are just what I remember from last nite. Just wanted to share some observations with you all.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
Matta said he was working on line-ups and mixing different combinations of players to see how they played together and hwo they responded to game situations. He also mentioned he and the staff did zero scouting for the game.
A couple of brief observations from the Walsh game.
1) This team will be better defensively than last year. I think that Craft, Scott, Thompson and Williams are all plus defenders. Smith and Ravenel are above average as well. Thomas has improved a lot since his freshman year, and Ross still has a ways to go. I think defense is one of this teams biggest strengths (although we really didn't see it against Walsh).
2) The coaching staff can use a lot of different lineups with this team. I think the 8 mentioned above get the vast majority of the playing time, with Trey and Della Valle getting spot minutes. I agree with Buckeyeeddie that Craft and Scott together looks great. I also like playing Scott and Thompson together, and really getting after people and pushing the ball in transition.
3) Offensively will need to develop a 2nd and 3rd option behind DT. Obviously DT is a stud and will get his. The staff clearly wants to develop Ross, who just screams with potential. Seems like the staff still has some work to do to make sure they are getting the most out of Ross, though. Thompson had a couple of mid-range jumpers that looked good, and it would be great if he were more aggressive this year as well. I still think that the Craft/Thomas pick and pop will be a big part of this years team.
4) This is going to be an awesome year to watch the Buckeyes!
yes. it will be on BTN.com. not sure if you have to pay to watch it or if it's free.
I think you have to pay to watch it live, but normally those online games are shown on BTN the next day.
"What we do in life echoes in eternity"
I see the BTN airing it at 3 on Wednesday.
Guess I'm watchin it wednesday.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
Go to www firstrow dot eu..... If u have a computer u can watch live.

Could the site you speak of be firstrow.net?
No, the .eu website has not been DMCA'd. Google Chrome+Adblock+http://www.thefirstrow.eu/
It does not appear the Walsh exhibition will be on there either, but check around gametime as it might be added late.
Thanks, Urbzrenewal.
They always have to change the domian name on first row sports because it keeps getting shut down. love that site though.
Friend just offered me a ticket, so it looks like I get to go. Nothin like a little last minute excitment! Go Bucks!

I'll be watching the Cavs game instead. First game of the year!

Craft, Smith, Ross, Thomas, Williams start. Interesting to see Ross starting over Thompson.
If anyone is interested you can listen online at 97.1 the Fan in Columbus. 23 -17 Walsh 7:25 left. Ross with 6 points so far, only scorer I've heard.
39-30 OSU at the half. Thomas -12 Ross- 11 Scott - 4 Craft - 3 Williams - 2 Not sure about Thompson, Della Valle, Ravenel or McDonald.
Um. We're really only up by 9?

Still not as overrated as Michigan is though.
61-47 OSU 11:38 left. Thomas - 21 points Ross - 11 Thompson - 8 Craft - 5 Smith Jr, Scott, Ravanel - 4 Williams, Della Valle - 2 McDonald- 0
Everyone has played. Craft with 2 fouls. Different starting 5 each half.
Craft 3 fouls with 11 to go.
63-50 OSU
If you want to listen to it..

We beat this team 95-49 last year. Not so sure if it is good if we are winning 63-50
Always have high hopes with Matta now. Regardless of who we lose, ET, Sully, etc...
Agreed but we had a few more set pieces last year with some major talent with the experience factor => Buford, Sully, Thomas, and Craft.
We lost Lighty and Threebler! I get your point, but let's blame Matta's awesomeness for my unrealistic expectations.

In 2007, OSU lost to Div II University of Findlay in exhibition, and that team ended up missing the Big Dance, but won the NIT. Long way till March.

@D. Anthony
ESPN doesn't acknowledge that Final Four.

What was the final score?
@NOVA...didn't you see the asterisk I used? I wasted an asterisk? Damn!
D. Anthony
Yes I saw it... I just stated what you were implying haha
