Assuming? If they both leave that will give Thad 3 schollies to get some top prospects. No way do we not get any incoming freshman.
Dude most of the top guys are signed already. Look at the espn 100. There's only about 10 guys unsigned. Zero are OSU leans. Half are probably looking at Kentucky. There's a real chance we get no one or a low level prospect like a Nikola Kecman type. The whole recruiting cylcle Matta could only be sure that he had Buford's scholarship open. I also see Ross playing PF instead of Thomspon. Ross is 6'8, 225 and averaged 11 boards and 2.1 blocks a game in hs. Sure he has a perimeter game too but so did Deshaun. Sam's only 190. He's a beanpole. He's playing SF for sure.
You must not follow baskebtall recruiting. All the top basketball prospects have commited already. There are only a few top guys left, and there are only 2 that Thad even has a hot at. But really only 1 guy in Tony Parker does he have a real shot at. And Parker still has like 5 schools left on his list. So he is the only guy Thad will get at this point. If he gets any other guys they would be a waste probably he should save them for next year.
But back to the point of the thread. As of right now my starting five is , Craft,Smith jr,Thompson,Ross,Williams. I could see Shannon scott possibly in the starting 5 if he learns how to shoot much better.
The Buckeyes are in the running for both Amile Jefferson and Tony Parker. I've read they have a very very good shot with Parker who is a big man from Georgia. UCLA is their top competition there

I've read he's not liking that we want him to lose weight.
Coach Matta should tell Parker whatever he wants to hear, and just make sure to sign him. Last thing I want the Bucks to do is be in a situation where they are wasting scholies and handing them out to someone that can walk and chew gum at the same time.

I think there's 3 locks - Craft, Smith, and Williams. We obviously have to wait on transfers and/or recruits coming in.
Spoon would be a great 4 if he can do anything besides dunk. He's got a bit more size than Thomas but it wouldn't really work if he can't shoot outside of 8 feet. We'll see.
We'll obviously be missing an outside threat offensively. Indications are that could be Ross, but we don't know about the rest of his game. Thompson is great defensively and a freak athlete, but can he shoot or create his shot off the dribble? We don't know.
I think Ravs has an outside shot if he stops fouling so dang much and can score 8-10 points down low but he's a really solid 6th man and can play either the 4 or the 5.
When do guys have to put their name in the draft by?
Tough times never last, tough people do
@snoodogg the entry deadline is april 10th - a week away

Id hate to see Parker come, the All American game he looked slow and not really impressive at all. Not to mention he already stated that wherever he goes, he is not interested in losing the weight. He said he doesnt want to happen to him what happened to Sully (shedding pounds).
Pay It Forward!
Hmm assuming they leave and we get no incoming recruits... I'll like to see..
PG Craft
SG LZJ
SF Ross
PF Ravey
C Williams
I don't think Thomas is going to leave tho just have a feeling... So replace him with Ravey, so we can have a 2nd unit of:
PG Scott
SG/SF Thompson
PF/C Ravey
PG- Craft
SG- LZJ
SF- Thompson
F- Ross
C- Williams
Scott is the first guard off the bench, Ravenel is the first big off the bench.
I just can't wait to see Ross in action, I bet he'll be our leading scorer putting up close to 20 a game if both Sully and Thomas leave, but like I said, I think Thomas will come back.
We haven't seen much out of Ross, but I really doubt he comes in and puts up 20 a game. That would be awesome but I doubt it. 20 a game is a lot in college.
PG- Aaron "The Smooth Criminal" Craft
SG- Lenzelle "The Scarlet Mamba" Smith Jr.
SF- Laquinton "The Astronaut Kid" Ross
PF- Deshaun "The Tank" Thomas
C- Amir "Dunk that Motherf'er" Williams
Top bench minutes: Thompson,Scott, Ravenel
If Thomas doesn't come back, insert Sam for LQ and move LQ to the PF. I think Sibert then becomes a more key player off the bench if that's the case, if he doesn't transfer of course.
ross won't start for OSU next year. I have know idea what ross-enthusiasts have seen, that have them so hyped, but it's all flown by me. Sure he's tall, sure he likes to shoot. Can he dribble, pass and play defense? Can't imagine him being much of a rebounder if you are expecting him to be raining three-balls. 6-8 is tall, but the wingspan will not reach the paint, when feet are behind the arc.
PG- Craft
G- Smith Jr
SF- Thompson
PF- Ravenel
C- Williams
Well it's not just us fans who are raving about Ross, a bunch of scouts/anaylst are saying he's going to explode on the scene next year, after all he was the #1 player in the country as a freshmen and sophomore but dropped to #50 or whatever because of his sometimes lack of enthuasiam/will to want to play. But Thad will change that. He's going to be a great player, markkkk my words. I've seen a lot of him and had Thad actually used him in our rotation, we would have been playing Monday night.
A starting line up of...
Craft
LZJ
Thompson
Ravenel
Williams
Is a team that finishes 4th in the B1G. In that group the biggest offensive threat is smith, and theres no way the team can win games based on that. Ross will have to develop or someone else will.
Even if we get Parker he looks even more immobile than sully and isn't all that tall.I'd much rather have amile jefferson.

No way would both Williams and Ravenal start, leaving no bigs off the bench. You could consider 'Spoon a big, but he's just not quite big enough - no pun intended. He can play the 4, but definitely not the 5. You don't want to start both your 5's.
Honestly, if both Sullinger and Thomas leave, I think it makes Jordan Sibert that much more important. I realize he hasn't played much as of yet, but when he has, he's shown somewhat of an ability to create offense for himself and make open shots. His shooting percentages haven't been anything to write home about, but this team would be lacking much of anyone who can get himself some points. LSJ will definitely be counted on to take that next step and become the primary scorer. Hopefully Sibert is reading the tea leaves, and understands he'll have a very good chance to contribute next year.
If both Sully and Thomas are gone, I see it as:
PG Craft
SG Smith
SF Thompson
PF Spoon
C Ravenal
With that said, I think we will actually see a lot more guys play next year. Other than Craft (and to a lesser extent Smith Jr.), Matta won't have anyone left who he has total and complete trust in. He's mentioned before that this year's team had more parity in terms of talent, effort, etc. than the past few, and then take away your top 3 scorers and 3 of your top minute per game guys, and I think we see even more use of the bench next year.
"What we do in life echoes in eternity"
Williams, Scott, Ross, and Sibert should all expect to see quite a bit of time, I would think. McDonald is still probably another year away from any type of significant contribution.
I realize it's been mentioned that this group would have trouble scoring, but can you imagine how good they could be defensively? Mark it down right now that Ohio State will have the #1 most efficient defense in the country. THAT is why we still could see another B1G title next year in Columbus...
"What we do in life echoes in eternity"
QB- Miller
RB- Hall
FB- Boren
Oh wait! Wrong sport lol
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
Any chance that Sully changes his mind? I personally think he could use another year!! Just imagine if we got all of the guys back, except Buford. That would be insane!!!

the more time sully stays the more his draft stock is hurt
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
Which direction with his fitness will Sully go this off-season? Will he continue to lose weight and become lighter on his feet, or, conversely, will he try to put the weight back on?
But don't you think if he stayed and worked on some of his weaknesses, it would help his stock? I mean, he's gonna go to the NBA. I was thinking that if he worked on those issues, the NBA would re-evaluate him, and say Yup...he's got it now!! Not to say he's incapable, but don't you think another year would really polish him? Plus his leadership would really increase the chances of tOSU going over the top for a National Championship!! I think he may feel like there's just one more thing left to do!!

I would go.
PG Craft
SG Smith
SF Thompson
PF Rav
C Amir
I hope Thompson improves his shooting and isn't scard to shoot next year.
It's good to be home.
I don't see Rav and Amir starting together...who's their backup, McDonald? Rav is a perfect 6th man because he can fill in at either position and with his unpolished offensive game, you probably don't want him starting.
It's important to note...it looks like Boals will stay. Combine him with Jent (Dickerson is probably gone) and Thad keeps the majority of his staff which is good.
PG Craft
SG Smith
SF Thompson
PF Spoon
C Williams
I think Williams will be able to score ... not 20 and 10 like Sully but I don't see why he is being discounted as a scorer. Although I do not know a ton about his high school days but I can see Craft/LSJ and maybe even Thompson getting better at driving and dishing, Amir seems like he would feast and be able to finish.
There was a lot of talk of Craft moving to 2 Guard to play Scott more. FYI, OSU stopped recruiting Amile Jefferson awhile ago. The only prospect we're in the running for is Tony Parker. I would guess he'd pick Duke or UGA, but it wouldn't surprise me if he picked OSU.
My two lineups (interchangable based on matchups)
C: Williams
PF: Spoon/Deshaun
G: Smith
G: Craft
G: Scott
C: Williams
PF: Spoon/Deshaun
G: Smith
G: Ross/Thompson
G: Craft
Honestly, I'll play with 4 as long as we have Craft and Lenzelle. Those guys make me so happy watching Ohio State basketball.
I bet Sibert and/or Weatherspoon transfer though. I don't see either getting many minutes behind Craft/Smith Jr./Ross/Thompson/Scott/Amir/Rave/Deshaun(possibly)
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
The one thing that trumps all in NBA is potential. Sully is not growing above 6'10 hes never going to have a 40 inch vertical. That is why I think the longer sully stays the more his draft stock is hurt. I love sully I just dont think he is ever going to be a dominant guy in the league. If im looking out for Sullys best interest I tell him to leave now. As a Buckeye fan I want him to stay all 4
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
I think if Spoon can turn up the defensive intensity he would be a great one to fit right in Thomas old spot. He was a big scoring threat in high school when teams were double and triple teaming Sully. Just needs that confidence back! My starting 5:
PG: Craft
SG: Lenzelle
SF: Ross
PF: Spoon
C: Williams
You CANT have Rav and Williams on the floor next year at the same time. We could get ourself in a lot of trouble if fouls add up! Save the schollies for next year and go recruit hard!
Let's hope for Thomas to come back!
" I went for two cause I couldn't go for three."

Craft, Smith, Thompson/Ross (tough), Thomas, Williams. Bring in Ravs for Thomas and leave Thompson in and you have a very solid defensive team. Minutes may be tough for Sibert and Spoon depending on how Matta subs.
Deshaun is not coming out of the game......
GABuckeye, If he does come out he will still be firing threes from the bench!
Amen FortMeyer! The dude has never seen a shot he didn't like.
PG: Carft
SG: Smith Jr.
F: Thompson
F: Thomas
C: Williams
It would seem this could actually be the year the bench plays (This could be the new throwing to the tight end thing) because Craft and Thomas are the only two who really "need" to be out there 34+
Very true Conroy. We'll see about any recruits, but the 2nd 5 (if what you have listed is the starting 5) is Scott, Sibert, Ross, Spoon, and Ravenel minus any transfers. McDonald is there too but I doubt he'll play a whole lot.
It will be interesting to find out who has the edge...Ross or Thompson.
seeing as how we only have really 1, maybe 2 legitimate scorers if you count the black mamba, if LQ Ross shows anything in preseason, I'd have to assume he'll start over Thompson
Sibert transfer doesn't affect starting 5 but bench is now shorter. Spoon transfer would leave us depleted down low if we don't get Oriahki or Parker.
