vs. Cincinnati

A victory over Cincinnati this Thursday, may be just the kind of test Ohio State needs to recalibrate itself, toward: The NCAA Men's Basketball Championship.

Losing to Cincinnati, may propel Ohio State's basketball ego into decline.

In any event, a Buckeye-only basketball tournament would be cool.

Playing Cincinnati in football and basketball - annually - would be cool, as well.

Go Bucks!

It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye.

You know what else would be cool? Beating Cincy by 20 pts Thursday night, then destroying them by 50 pts in fball in 2014, and then never scheduling them ever again in the future. I'm not against the Buckeyes playing them in bball/fball on a fairly regular basis, I just think that would be one very cool way to end the relationship.

I think the Bucks should play several teams in Ohio including Cinci., OU, Xavier, ... This would be great for BB as well as FB. If there are two more teams to be added to the B1G, I believe that they should come from Ohio. It may take a few years for them to become respectable, but the talent that is in Ohio would surely start to stay in Ohio. Look how many universities depend on recruiting Ohio to make their programs competitive. UM, MSU, Wisky, and others would need to look elsewhere for football talent. To me, UC, OU, UT should be looked at for entry into the B1G.

No way.  OSU would never allow another Ohio school to earn the label "Big Ten".  It undercuts their recruiting presence in-state.  The SEC has the same sort of expansion rules.  That's why adding Clemson or Florida State was never a serious pursuit.  Right now South Carolina and Florida can pitch only SEC in-state program to every in-state recruit.  Every single other Ohio school is in an inferior conference and OSU can pull the same.  Not to mention the fact that adding an Ohio school doesn't increase the exposure of the BTN and does not contribute to OSU's or the BIG's bottom line.  Horrible idea all the way around from the perspective of OSU.

Not one of your reasons considered the students or our other state supported universities. I know you are right from a monetary stand point, and it makes it appear that OSU would be a big bully by not allowing anyone to crash their party. Competition never hurt anyone.

I don't want to get into a pissing contest with you, but I would imagine that their would be many Ohio kids that would like to stay in their home state. Also, I don't think ESPiN would approve.

I really don't care that much to play Cincinnati every year.  In basketball, maybe.  In football, not really.  I'd have loved to play them in 2008/2009 in football when they had BCS bowl teams, and when they were more prominent under Bob Huggins in basketball.  It will be cool to play them on Thursday.  But as far as an annual rivalry series in either sport, I'm not sure I care that much.  I don't know, I guess if we're going to add non-conference rivals, I'd go with Notre Dame in football and Kentucky in basketball.  I've always wondered why we don't play Kentucky more, especially in basketball (and even in football, though they're ter..oh wait SEC they're awesome /endSECtroll).

Class of 2010.

Posted in another OSU/UC thread, summarized/paraphrased here.

Football - Ditch the carousel of in-state match ups (Youngstown, Miami, Ohio, Toledo, BG) and create an annual OSU/UC match-up.  Bring more OSU interest into the Cincinnati area.  Let the on-field play determine which program is superior.
