Does anyone know what happened with Sibert? In the beggining of the year it seemed like he would see minutes but as we all know he hasnt seen the floor much in months. It amazes me how inefective Amir Williams and Shannon Scott are when they enter the game - I would even go as far as to say that Scott is a liability. Does Thad know how to develop freshman?

Well look at 4 of the starting 5 yes he knows how to develope freshman! I feel a reason why he keeps them on the bench is to machure their talent (or that's my closest possible guess).

I guess given the short span of time that most high ranked freshmen spend on the team before leaving for the draft, there really isn't a whole lot of emphasis put on young player development...what's the point? When teams recruit well (and let's face it, that has to be a priority given the one and done rule) you look for things like sophomore leadership...sounds silly I know, but just look at UK.
Put the best 5 out there and make a run if you can. Should anyone become a lottery pick, you've done all you could.
I was wondering what happen to Seibert also?I thought he was a much better scoring weapon then Smith he must have gotten in Matta's doghouse. Shannon Scott can't shoot at all, and while his defense is good he is a zero threat to score. Amir will be good but he needs some work. I'd like to see him improve becasue he gives us a shot blocking threat. Sam Thompson looks good he probably is most likely to move into a starting role next year but he doesn't seem to be the scorer we need. Q. Ross is the wild card and unfortunatly because he never gets playing time we do not know if he is any good. It would have been nice to see him get more playing time and see if he was the legendary shooter that Thad makes him out to be. Next year they will get playing time and it should be fun to watch these kids develop.
Well, Sibert is shooting like 28%. Not much of a scoring threat off the bench with that %.
AW never looks very interested...don't know if it's his personality but he doesn't seem to have that "fire." Scott just can't shoot, but he looked decent at the big ten tourney.
Amir Williams looks SLOW.
well 7 ftrs arent supposed to be fast.

RedStorm45 hit the nail on the head talking about Sibert. He was in the game to make shots... He is not very good defensively. When his shots weren't falling, there was really no use in having him on the floor.
Amir Williams is soft.
Also...just look at D.T. if from last year to this year if you're wondering if Thad can develop freshman. Sometimes you have to look at the kids, their work ethic, etc. Thad can't develop them 100% if they're not buying in, practicing hard, and whatnot.
How can anyone say anything bad about our freshmen??? They have never even had the chance to get comfortable in a game situation. You can't expect production when they sit for 4 or 5 straight games, then all the sudden they are called upon to produce. And as for Sibert, he was predicted to be a starter this year instead Lenzelle Smith Jr gets over 30 minutes a game! But can't really argue with success, Thad gets us 25 wins a year and usually a B1G title.
Our bench could of started for Minnesota and got them to the tournament.
@Nuts4bucks What bench have you been watching? Outside of Ravenel, who provides any offensive production? Thompson and Scott can defend, but neither can shoot to save their life. If our bench were to start for another team, I'd say they would be a lock, for the NIT that is.
it is a little unfair (and delusional) to create scouting reports about players from scrub time alone. you show me any self-respecting athlete who wants to be on the court when you're up 30 with 2 minutes to go, and i'll show you a kid who is destined for a life of eternal optimism.

Pretty much everyone on the bench outside of McDonald and Ross have been in games at times not deemed "scrub time." Sibert was the first 2 guard off the bench, but his horrendous shooting prompted Matta to use Thompson instead. Scott has seen PT in important games either with Craft or in place of him. Both Rav and AW have gotten in there for Sully with the injury and foul trouble. Even Spoon was playing for a stretch there in conference games about 8-10 minutes a game. So a lot of what we're saying is based off of that, not what they do in the last 2 minutes of blowouts.
Look at the difference in Lenzelle, Deshaun, and Turne from their freshman years. Thad can develop guys. The problem is a lot of 4 star recruits just can't play. You see it in the guys we have lost to transfer. Even the guys that transferred lower tier have not done anything. Crater, Offut, Wallace, etc. Thad knows what he's doing. Now hopefully Mickey can get in some work with guys like Sam Thompson and get some weight on him. If Sibert wants to play, hit 40% of his 3s. Sibert, Craft, Thompson, and Lenzelle should spend the entire summer in a gym shooting 3s and FTs.
For every recruit like Sully or Anthony Davis who come in and are great as freshman, there's an Amir Williams who will be a fine player but just can't make the jump that first year. We thought this buckeye team was going to be a lot better because we expected the freshman to come in and not miss a beat from last year, it doesn't always work out that way. I know we think every guy who is a Mc Donald's All American or 5 star or whatever else should come in and just contribute from day 1 but it doesn't work that way all the time. I'd rather have a guy who gives us 2 1/2 or 3 really good years, than a guy who tears it up 1 year and leaves.
