It appears that Ohio University head basketball coach is headed to Illinois (after they whiffed on no less than 5 other candidates).
Groce of course was a former assistant at OSU before heading to Athens. Now, it appears as if he and Matta will go head to head in the Big Ten. But that's not the big effect this move has on OSU...Jeff Boals, current assistant coach with OSU right now, has to be a top 3 candidate for the job at OU. He's an OU grad and 2 year basketball captain there. He's almost in the same position Groce was in when he left - young (mid-to-late 30's) and a so called "rising star" on Matta's staff. Boals was key in recruiting over the past few years as well. Matta may yet again lose his top assistant to OU.
I hope OU has enough class and taste to not call him until Tuesday. Know what I'm sayin'?

Paulus and Jent both will move up on the staff if/when Boals leaves...
Has anyone taken a moment to stop and think about that? I mean -- I just did... Our basketball staff is amazing! And the Matta coaching tree just grows larger and more impressive, other than Lichlighter (fired from Iowa last year? He was a Matta guy, right?)...
I just hope Matta can keep going, as long as he's healthy and can stand it. I love that guy.
