I find it laughable that many of you are comparing the loss to OU with Toledo and App. St in football. Make fun all you want for the two embarrassing football losses, but all Michigan fans are over the loss in the single elmination basketball tourney that we had about a 0.5% chance of making the Final Four, anyway. It is insignificant other than the fact is we should've won. And not to be disrespectful to OU, because I know many alums from Athens, but most Michigan fans can care less about their chatter in response to Brady calling OSU "Ohio."
But let me ask you this, Buckeyes...why do you feel a need to stick "The" in front of Ohio State University? Do you feel a need to differentiate yourselves from every other institution in the state of Ohio, as if someone might confuse you with these lowly schools? Or do you just think you're that superior over the rest? It sounds to me like you are the ones who are truly disrespecting OU, not Brady Hoke.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!

Hail: the THE in front of Ohio State University is the official name of the university, so it would be incorrect to leave it off. Call it presumptuous by the university if you want, but this is not a fan or player or alum thing, it is the official name.
the real name of the institution is "The Ohio State University" It is in the school charter. Buckeye fans didn't just make that up while being pretentious
Hail: I agree that the loss to OU doesn't compare at all to the App. or Toledo losses in football. The OU basketball team is really a pretty good team and "on any given day...." right? That's why we play the games. The reason we are taking such delight in it is because 1st Hoke, then Beinlein made a point of it. When it's OSU & UM, schadenfrude has it's place.
As to your 2nd point - when I was at OSU from '77 to '85 it was Ohio State University. I cannot ever remember anyone using THE.... Sometime in the 1990's OSU and OU got into some pretty serious litigation about the use of OHIO in it's merchandising. Right about that time I started to see THE OSU popping up in official documents, letterhead, etc... from OSU, originally as a way to either differentiate themselves, or as part of the settlement. Or perhaps to just annoy OU.
I'm sure that I'm in the minority here (and hope I don't get trashed on 11W for it!) but I hate their use of THE in front of OSU. I find it gives even people who know nothing about OSU the impression of arrogance, and I personally never use it in my communications with or about the school. The exception? If I find I can poke MU (see...) fans with it and get a response!

First time Hail that I really haven't liked one of your posts.....I'll keep my thoughts to myself, but I'm surprised that post hasn't illicited more of a blowback from the 11W community.
Buckeyevet - Check your diploma. It clearly reads "The Ohio State University" as do all diplomas ever awarded after the name change from "Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College" (so named from 1870 to 1878). My diploma from '74 clearly states "The Ohio State University". And, when I was with the team from 70-74 staff and players frequently included "The" when speaking officially about the school.
Hail - It has been "The Ohio State University" since 1878. There is no behind the scenes dissing of Ohio University by either the school or the fans. In fact you will find that most tOSU fans will readily cheer for OU and vice versa unless we are playing each other. You are trying to create a level of disrespect that exists with Brady, Beilein, and Brandon towards tOSU. There is nothing of that sort going on. None of us could really give a flip at what the 3 B's say, but the situation with the real Ohio beating UM on the b-ball court makes their arrogant ways laughable. Almost as laughable as you trying to come on here and stir the pot by saying the use of "The" in the name for tOSU is an insult to OU. And, the loss to OU is in no way as big an upset on the national level as Toledo or Appy State defeating the mighty wolverines on the grid iron, but the 3 B's made it a big deal in Ohio. The fact that you don't get that probably makes you as arrogant as the 3 B's.
Hail2losers69: I find it laughable that you, and the rest of scUM whoreverines are still disrespecting Ohio. You guys still don’t get it. I don’t think Michigan State would like it if people start calling them “Michigan”. And, yes, I’m sure Bee-line told his team at the start of the season that they only have a 0.5% chance of making the final four. Now that is laughable. “And not to be disrespectful to OU, most Michigan fans can care less about their chatter in response to Brady calling OSU "Ohio." Are you serious? You have been spending a lot of time here. Try spending some time on your own blog. “ Those who stay will be champions”? Stay on your own blog! The “the” has been eloquently explained earlier.
“Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS! This is exactly what I used to tell the kids from the great state of Ohio when we recruit them. Brady Joke is doing the same thing.”
NW : Thanks for the input. I have no doubt that you experienced it differently than me. Also I know that's what my diplomas read, but what I meant was that I (personally) was not around people who used The OSU - it was always OSU, Ohio State, or Ohio State University. Or maybe it was people saying the instead of "Thee" and I misremember it? I am getting older, ya know.
As to your second paragraph - totally agree.

A lawsuit by Ohio University, way back in the day, is exactly why "The" was added to Ohio State University. If you tsun fans ever decide to read the whole story you will find out why it is actually a dis to Ohio University and not The Ohio State University . I got to give the Bobcats credit, they showed tsun who Ohio is ...lol
So from this point on calling The Ohio State Buckeyes "Ohio" is just plain stupid and it will proly just get a chuckle from the fans here in Ohio....besides that your football team has never beat Toledo Rockets also from Ohio ... lol
@hail2, what's disrespectful is saying that the your bid in the dance didn't matter, it always matters, ask the seniors and their families, ask the coaching staff, the transfer student, the cheer leaders, the student body...did it matter??? It always matters, because you leave the floor, field, arena, stadium with the sense of "what if i had made that shot?", "what if i had one more game to impress the scouts?"
Nice
You should add a Toledo shirt to your collection too.
Also, I heard 4 teams from Ohio going to sweet 16.... cool
O H I O is the Buckeye State

We're disrespecting OU by emphasizing THE Ohio State University? Whut?
In Ohio, when people are talking athletics and say, "Ohio," we think of OU, not tOSU. So, when scUM fans call tOSU "Ohio," it is disrespectful to OU.
Whatever. It was still fun that Ohio beat scUM. *shrug*

That's the name of the school hail2. Deal with it.

Why is it that no Michigan fan can answer a question?
Because they keep saying UMMMMMMMMMM.

Typical ignorant excuse from Michigan University fans, I would not expect anything less.
Tomorrow
I'm glad I didn't go to The Michigan University. LOL. They will lose to Ohio Northern, next.
