my guess would be Dennis Hopson or Jim Jackson.
Evan Turner needed one more year.
Greg Oden, well, I don't know if we will ever see that kind of talent in the next 40 years.
Clark Kellog was before my time, so was Granville Waiters.
Jay Burson was playing, when I got hooked on OSU hoops, and he was pretty sweet. Never was a BJ Armstrong fan after Burson's injury.
Well, what you got?

Evan Turner!
October 20th: National Kenneth Guiton Day
Evan Turner needed one more year for what? To get another Nasmith Award?
Class of 2010
Clark was the best. He could knock down the jumper or go inside and use his strength to dominate. And he was probably the best rebounder since Lucas.
Dennis Hopson ranks among the most talented.......
Tough question...so many good ones. The best that spring to mind are Kelvin Ransey, Herb Williams, Clark Kellogg, Jay Burson, Jim Jackson, Michael Redd and Evan Turner. I wouldn't argue too much against any of those guys.
Definitely Redd, Conley Jr., and Turner in my life. Sully is working his way in there as well.
Jimmy Jackson
Evan Turner
Gregg Oden
Mike Redd
Hopson/ Kellog/ Burson where just before my time. I missed alot of Redd because I was on my first ship and we had no internet or cable.

No matter how sh*tty the tour is, it's always tough to leave.
trying not to confuse NBA success with college success, I can't put Mike Redd in the same class as Hopson, Jackson or Turner.
I thought Turner needed one more year of college success to be placed in the category of Hopson and Jackson. Well, Redd needed 1.33.
Herb Williams
Not sure why Redd would need more time to add his name beside Hopson and Jackson. He played three seasons and is the school's fifth highest scorer (ahead of Jackson). His name is sprinkled liberally throughout the OSU record books. Dude could ball in college.
FUUUUUUUUUNDERBUUUUUUUUUUUURKE...lol...i remember as a kid just loving to yell his name...

"Benjamin" Mullens
Real, though, probably either Turner, or Conley Jr. Really loved conley.

Re: best OSU men's basketball player the past 40 years?
Odd that you picked 40 years. Had you said 50 years it wouldn't even be debatable, it would be Jerry Lucas.
OK, in the last 40 yerars....probably 1) Dennis Hobson, 2) Jimmy Jackson, & 3) Evan Turner
P.S. Go back 60 years and Robin Feeman get mentioned.
Jim Jackson was very special. He could take over any game at any time.
vacuuming sucks
I've not really been around Buckeye basketball that long, probably back in the Redd and Penn Days is where I really got to see their games in my area. It wasn't like today when I can get virtually every Buckeye game. So in my opinion, the best I've seen is Evan Turner, and even though it's an incredibly small sample size, I would say Sullinger is quickly shooting up that list.
What I liked about Evan Turner is he pretty much played every position on the floor but center. Although he could post a guy up now and then too. Guy's stat line would be 25 points 10 boards 8 assists, 4 steals 2 blocks. Every positive stat a player could have he seemed to have quite a few of lol.
He basically carried that team along, and was fun to watch the whole way. One of my favorite college basketball players to watch all time.
I'm not nearly as high on Oden as others would be. Don't get wrong, the guy was phenominal, and that team made a special run. The one thing about him though, was he missed a chunk of his one season with injury. I know it's not his fault, but I just feel like we didn't see the best Oden nor has anyone else. I don't think the guy ever was able to reach his full potential because of injury setbacks. It's not a knock on him, I'm sure he didn't want to be injured, but I just don't think Oden's true potential was ever realized.
This is tough...you could make a case for Herb Williams, Kelvin Ransey, Dennis Hopson, Jimmy Jackson or Evan Turner. Can't pick Conley or Oden just because they only played that one year.
Does anyone remembr Tony Campbell? He was my favorite Buckeye when I was little, thought he was always a beast, but maybe that's through the eyes of 5th grader.
CK and it's not close

My vote would go for Jim Jackson. The guy was a star from the second he stepped foot in Columbus and was great for all three years he played and was the best player in the country in 92. Hopson really didn't become a star till his junior year but he was sensational those last two years. Had JJ played all four years he would have shattred OSUs scoring record. Post Jerry Lucas era JJ is my #1.
I'm sure I'm a little biased, because he tossed in 42 points in the first OSU basketball game I ever saw in person, but I would probably cast a tentative vote for Clark Kellogg (anyone who wanted to argue Jackson, Turner, or even Oden based on how his defense could change a game wouldn't get a major argument from me). You look at the rest of the talent on the team his last year here (I think the other starters were Granville Waiters, a still developing Tony Campbell, Larry Huggins, and the Ron Stokes/Troy Taylor freshman tag team), and keep in mind that that edition of the Buckeyes was a fairly high NCAA tournament seed back when March Madness still took a little work to get into, and you realize how good he had to be.

SCRIPTOHIO makes a great point about your focus on the last forty years of basketball.
You IGNORE - let alone exclude - some of the greatest basketball players - ever!
None of the great players you note, won a national championship.
Jerry Lucas and John Havlicek did, in 1960 and were runners-up the next two years.
You can't talk Buckeye basketball history and ignore these guys.
Hoody, I think he deliberately picked 40 years because we all know that Lucas and company are hands down the best ever at tOSU. Ranking the "modern" era is a fair conversation to have.
Obviously Bj Mullens.......
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
Yeah, because Byron could catch the ball with both hands.

Grady Mateen, Bill Robinson or Gerald Eacker would have tied BJ Mullens into a pretzel and dunked him.

Agreed - 40-year time frame was for obvious reasons.
I'm not old enough to rank Clark Kellogg unfortunately. In my limited viewership (last 25 years?) I would say JJ and Hopson were pretty close followed by Turner and Redd. It is too early to say but the impact that Craft is having on the quality of the team is difficult to measure if you ask me. I'm a huge fan. Loved Oden but I don't think is in the top-10 based on what he actually did on the court. The potential seemed to be off the charts.
How about who would have been if they hadnt screwed things up? Greg Simpson from my Alma Mater would be #1 on that list.
Alan Hornyak anyone? Jim Clemmons? Luke Witte?
Personally, I'd still go with JJ
Media attn wise its E. Turner. But for pure Basketball skills and the ability to dominate on the court...Jim Jackson gets my vote, Clark Kellogg/G Oden/ET close behind. favorite Buckeye All-time, Clark Kellogg, he is still as classy as it gets.
@ Ski: a couple of days ago, uniwatch had a photo of whatever team Noopy transferred to (and got kicked off). The school had to put med tape on the back of the jersey to cover Noopy's name and let the new guy play. I'll try to dig it up.
