Malcolm Young was born today in Scotland in 1953. His family moved to Australia 10 years later. 10 years after that Malcolm and his younger brother Angus formed AC/DC.

Malcolm is often overshadowed by his flashier, lead guitar playing brother but make no mistake, AC/DC is Malcolm's band. In a group full of raging drunkards Malcolm provided the leadership and maturity that allowed AC/DC to grow from a kick ass bar band into a worldwide force that sold over 200 million albums.

Malcolm is an interesting paradox. He is widely regarded as one of the best rhythm guitar players in rock history while at the same time he's widely criticized for "only playing three chords". I am squarely in the former camp and I'll be damned if Malcolm doesn't play the perfect three chords at exactly the right time.

Malcolm has influenced a legion of guitar players with his deceptively simple style. His songs have been covered by artists from virtually every genre: Motorhead, Celine Dion, Guns n Roses, Zakk Wylde, Joe Lynn Turner, Henry Rollins, Shakira, Joan Jett, The Offspring, Big & Rich, Bruce Dickinson, Exodus and Anthrax, to name a few.

Unfortunately, Malcolm has retired due to his battle with dementia. His music will not be forgotten for a very long time.

Soul Stripper off the debut album, High Voltage. This is one of the grooviest, funkiest AC/DC tracks and it features Malcolm on lead guitar: https://youtu.be/6FpeX7JqdyI
