Jerry Douglas was born in Warren, Ohio on May 28th, 1956.  He is the best (in my opinion) and probably most well-known dobro/resonator guitar player in music today.  He continues to be a prolific musician, as well as producer.

Jerry began playing the dobro at age 8, after his father took him to a Flatt & Scruggs concert. His recording career began at the age of 17.

He has been a member of numerous bands, as well as issued some great solo records.  As a studio musician, he has recorded on thousands of albums.  Jerry is probably most well-known as a member of Alison Krauss & Union Station.

From what I can tell, the first record he appeared on was as a member of The Country Gentleman, when they recorded "Remembrances and Forecasts" in 1974, when he was 17 years old.  In 1975 as a member of J.D. Crowe & The New South (featuring J.D. Crowe, Jerry Douglas, Ricky Skaggs, and Tony Rice), he played on one of the most seminal bluegrass albums, the self-titled "J.D. Crowe & the New South."

In the late '70s, Jerry launched his solo career and became a member of the family group "The Whites" (which features Sharon White - Ricky Skaggs' wife).  In addition to those endeavors, he became a much in-demand studio musician.

As mentioned above, Jerry is a prolific studio musician.  He has recorded on albums by probably all of his bluegrass colleagues, including Bela Fleck, Tony Rice, Sam Bush, EmmyLou Harris, Del McCoury, Tim O'Brien, Doc Watson, Peter Rowan and more.  He has also recorded on albums by many country musicians, including Glen Campbell, Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, George Jones, Vince Gill, Alan Jackson, Randy Travis, Brad Paisley, Trisha Yearwood, and more.

Jerry has also recorded on albums by many non-country/bluegrass artists, including Phish, Paul Simon, Steve Earle, Ray Charles, John Prine, Lyle Lovett, Edie Brickell, James Taylor, The Chieftans, Leftover Salmon, Joan Baez, Mumford & Sons, and more.

Jerry also performed on the 'Oh Brother Where Art Thou' soundtrack, which was extremely popular and went 8-times platinum, selling almost 8 million copies.

Jerry is probably most well-known as a member of Alison Krauss & Union Station.  He joined the band in 1998 and has recorded and toured with them ever since.

In 2013, Jerry formed the band the Earls of Leicester to present the music of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs.

Jerry has won many awards, including 14 Grammy awards, the Country Music Association's 'Musician of the Year' three times, and a lifetime achievement award from the Americana Music Association.
