This is just a follow-up from the "Ohio College Sport Programs, Ranked by Budgets" thread. BuckeyeCWRU wanted to know how much money was spent on research by these universities in comparison. Although there wasn't an article, I gathered the data from the NSF (National Science Foundation). All data is for 2014.

School R&D Expenditure
Youngstown State     $3,464,000.00
Bowling Green State     $8,861,000.00
Miami University   $21,216,000.00
Kent State   $25,666,000.00
Wright State   $54,985,000.00
Ohio University   $60,800,000.00
Cleveland State   $61,783,000.00
Toledo   $61,900,000.00
Akron   $69,528,000.00
Cincinnati $422,873,000.00
Ohio State $815,075,000.00

School Athletic Expenses
Wright State   $11,663,355.00
Cleveland State   $11,827,556.00
Youngstown State   $14,946,755.00
Bowling Green State   $21,823,070.00
Kent State   $26,291,980.00
Ohio University   $27,110,443.00
Toledo   $29,902,989.00
Miami University   $32,756,388.00
Akron   $34,070,009.00
Cincinnati   $51,717,370.00
Ohio State $154,033,208.00

I'm looking at you, Youngstown State, Bowling Green, Miami, and Kent State. Those are the four schools who spend more on Athletics than Research and Development.
