Gordon Sumner, better to known to music fans around the world as Sting, was born in England today in 1951. Sting rose to prominence with The Police from 1978-1983. The Police were a unique blend of new-wave pop, reggae, rock and punk. They racked up six Grammy awards and every album they released went platinum in the US. Their final record “Synchronicity” sold over eight million copies. All told, Sting has sold over 100 million albums between his work with The Police and his solo efforts.
