Thanks to everyone here for your support prior to my race this weekend. During the race, it rained. And it rained. And it rained. And then, for shits and giggles, it rained some more. The race was four loops, and the trails deteriorated the longer the race went on. I ended loop 2, at 53.6 miles, on a 28 hour pace and every intention of finishing the race. I headed out onto loop 3, it is getting dark, and the trails were so bad I could barely stay upright to walk on them. I knew about a half mile in that I wasn't doing that all night. It seemed completely absurd (I sank into mud up to my knees at several points). When I saw my mom at the aid station 4.5 miles later, I told her I was out. My hats off to folks who finished in that stuff. It was ridiculous.
