So, the old furnace stopped working temporarily during the recent cold snap. It is a residential Lennox unit (don't have the model number handy, but can get it later if necessary). It is about 6 years old. After several hours, it started working again spontaneously, but I had a highly rated local company come and take a look at it anyway.
The tech told my wife (I was not home at the time) that the inducer was currently functioning, but in poor condition and should be replaced or it could cause further damage to the system. He quoted a bit under of $700 to replace it (not sure if that included labor).
I have 2 questions: 1) Is this a reasonable price for a residential inducer, and 2) Are we really risking further damage (beyond a cold house) if we wait until it actually fails.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
