To help us pass the football off-season, tell us about surprising places you have found buckeye trees. I was surprised to find buckeye trees lining a street near my hotel in Estoril, Portugal. There were buckeyes lying everywhere in the gutters (the small round kind of buckeye, not the drinking-stumbling kind). A local cafe even served dishes with chestnuts that looked like buckeyes.
I have buried a few buckeyes, hoping to have a tree someday, but no luck so far. Any tips out there about buckeye horticulture? Would they grow so far north as Ann Arbor? It would be satisfying to sneak buckeye trees onto TTUN's campus. Even better if we could have buckeyes stashed somewhere on every B1G campus.
