A coworker passed along a screen grab from a CNN story. It's a good example of unfortunate product placement.

I probably would've posted during the season as well.

But I wish football would start.

God if I was one of the victims family I would have screen grabbed and took a picture of this and immediately contacted a lawyer. My neighbors little 3 year old daughter was mangled badly by a pitbull and I guess from her doing research on the subject advertisers thinks its cool to flood every page she visits with thorough bred top of the line pedigree fighting Pitbull pictures. She showed me and one of the dogs heads looked bigger then a grisly bear's. There needs to be a way to stop this.

Mark my words..I don't need acceptance. I'm catching interceptions on you innocent pedestrians.

Private Browser.

I'm sure that the algorithms that decide what place an add have some way to not include ads that are insensitive. But to not include an add as innocuous as a shower ad would take additional steps to review the story and decide if the story has negative connotations for the product being placed.

So yes, it seems insensitive but I don't know how you actually prevent the situation, barring not using targeted advertising or a privacy settings/private browser, without knowing everything about everyone and for every device on which you can access the interwebs.

I've always felt that using browsing or search engine history for targeting advertisements was an invasion of privacy.  Seems like maybe your neighbor has a legit case against the practice and could file a suit.

I do know that Google advertisements do have an opt out, but I couldn't tell you how to do it as I have never bothered to figure it out.

You don't have to use google will be the response. When you go to the Internet you are using chrome, Firefox etc. not your own developed private browser. When you go to a website it is someone's website not your own. If you go to a bookstore and buy a book on cooking you wouldn't be surprised when they know that you bought a cook book to receive a flyer about cook books.

i understand your hope for privacy but with this day in age just because you are at your home doesn't mean it's private when you go online.

I like it when posters dont realize that ads are targeted now based on browsing history, cookies, etc:

"Holy cow, 11W...why are you allowing midget porn companies to advertise here? What if kids visit the site?"

The postgame show is brought to you by... Christ, I can't find it. The hell with it...

99% of ads arent controlled by the the page you are looking at. Its based of YOUR browsing data usually. I remember a year or two ago people were complaining about scUM ads on this site. Well....quit looking at their boards haha.

And that's the reason why bassdropper has Boy Band ads on his pages?
