PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
I'm in the arena district tonight for Blue Jackets and I'm doing the Presidents Cup tomorrow. Where should I drink/eat/drink?
Schmidts in German Village for the food.
As a student I don't often get to venture away from campus for food, but Short North and Arena District have a lot to offer in bars and restaurants. Thurman's is really popular in Columbus and among my friends.
Haven't tried it yet but looking forward to it - I've heard a lot of people rave about Harvest in German Village. Just gotta find the time to make it there.
In my opinion Schmidts in German Village is over-rated. I've had it a dozen times - it's ok food but I live in UA so it's not a place I'd go out of my way to have. If I'm in German Village, I would prefer to go to Thurman's or Katzingers (Harvest might be making this list). Also just north of German Village - Dirty Frank's is great. They're right next to 16-Bit Bar which I heard good things about but haven't made it there yet either. It's a bar with classic arcade games.
Yeah, Harvest is amazing...but plan on at least a 1-2 hour wait time on a friday night.
Flatiron has best food closest to Arena District. R Bar for drinking for hockey.
Go get a Buffalo Chicken Pizza from R Bar....freaking amazing! and its close to the Hockey game....or Bostons has amazing Pizza as well..right across from the arena.
I ate at Boston because it was pouring rain and it was dry inside

Try North High Brewing for some good beer. It's at the northern part of the Short North on High Street, just south of Kroger. They have 10 of their beers on tap and 20 from other places. I enjoy their Porter, their Nitro Milk Stout, their Pale Ale, IPA, and others. They have one called Wildcard English Ale which has a little vanilla in it. Had it yesterday and it's pretty good and the first time it's been around.
If you do go to Pearl, North High has an oyster beer on tap there which is brewed special for the them.
The owners, Gavin and Tim, are both OSU MBA grads and really friendly. Gavin is a high school classmate of mine from Hilliard.
The pouring rain put a damper on me roaming the streets of Columbus looking for good eats. I ran into Boston's and really enjoyed my time talking to all the BlueJacket fans before the game.
Saturday I just stayed at the course and I made sure to grab some Canes before I left town.
I didn't make it to the Short North or German Village like I intended, but I still had a great weekend as always in C-bus. Thanks to everyone for the advice, even though I didn't get to use it.
Buci Di Bepo is within a few feet of Nationwide Arena's main entrance. Ted's Montana Grill is right across the street. Both have done right by us over the years.
