..because I am a waiter at Steak N' Shake. An important element of making good money as a server in the food industry is being able to banter with your guests about a variety of subjects, using their appearances (clothing helps immensely) to determine what types of interests they each have. I typically become excited when someone enters the store decked out in Buckeye gear, but they typically aren't privy to the intricacies of fandom such as the following of recruitment, who the exciting new players to watch are, or sometimes even of when the season starts. Tuesday afternoon, however, I was fortunate enough to serve not only a well informed Buckeye fan and his family, but also an avid 11W reader (although not a member, to my knowledge). After he left, I went to bus the table, and sure enough, there was a napkin with "CHASE FOR 8! GO BUCKS!!" scrawled upon it in crayon along with an 8 dollar tip (which was about 50% of the total check). God, I love being a Buckeye fan so damned much, and there are few things that cause me to like someone faster than some friendly conversation about the best university in the world.
