Memorial Day is our nation’s commemoration of the sacrifices made by those whose lives were put on the line for the freedoms we hold sacred. It annoys me to see my Facebook feed from endless amounts of people all celebrating a 3 or 4 day weekend and getting completely intoxicated at a cookout, and not truly remembering why they have that long weekend. Memorial Day weekend should be fun and it's fine to grill out and drink a few drinks, but lets not forget why we have those rights.
Whether our veterans survived their military service, or were lost on the field of battle, our country owes each of them, and their families, a debt of gratitude.
Memorial Day presents the chance to gather our thoughts and honor the military service of our parents and grandparents, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins. Individuals who either volunteered or were drafted, wore the uniform of our armed forces, and gave all or a portion of their lives in service to our nation and its allies.
In honor of those we’ve lost, let’s not be passive about the importance of their sacrifice. God bless the USA and God bless you all. Go Bucks and happy Memorial Day weekend!
