There's a story in the Plain Dealer today about the University changing its identifying symbol across the board. That's great, and I think it's fine and dandy to have consistent imaging for the University and the Athletic department, etc. This is the new symbol:

I think the font leaves something to be desired -- the capital T looks off proportionally -- but it's pretty good. A nice serif font, which fits with the university setting. I assume this logo will be replacing this good old standby, which isn't a huge loss:

The university seal was also changed to put the Block O in the background of the seal, rather than the old circular O. It's a little more modern, or something, which isn't a big deal.
The new athletics logo is an abomination:

For reference, here's the old one:

They got rid of the lines inside the letters and it's just awful. The new logo looks like a little kid made it with a marker.
I just wanted to see if anyone else had any thoughts or if I'm like 900% too anal-retentive about this. This has been a post.

At the end of the day we'll get used to anything, but no doub that the new ones are worse than the old ones in both cases.
I wish we would just go with the scarlet block O and leave it at that. People know who we are, and if they don't, they will learn.
wow, they made the "Athletic O" worse, somehow.
Me no likey. Try again please.
Still looks better than scum logos.
I actually like the new university logo. Classic, minimalistic, and sophisticated. I was never a huge fan of the athletic logo because, to me, it took away from the collegiate feel of the block O and replaced it with a NFL/NASCAR vibe. Regardless, the new athletic logo looks worse than the outgoing variety.
Even though the block O is the most easily identifiable icon for the university and makes the most sense for its visual representation, I still wish they would make more use of the university seal.
Gordon Gee's signature is on my diploma. I'm proud of that. Class of 2008
hmm i think the new athletic logo is even more telling about the uniform change. I think black might become an unofficial color of the school, maybe i sound crazy, just my suspicion
The athletic logo looks awful. We need to organize a full court press of rejection a la Michigan State a few years ago when they forced administration to abandon their new logo. I will be embarrassed if I see this logo used in an advertising/marketing capacity.
I've never been a fan of the athletic logos...I love the "THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY" logos, though. Both of them.

the athletic O is an absolute abortion. It looks like the exact one I tried to paint on my kid's wall but I screwed up the outline and just painted it all black
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
Abortion?

You would think with school colors the "Scarlet and Grey" that the block O wouldn't be hot pink.
