Okay, so I've mentioned once or twice in the past week or two that I'm a proud Papa-to-be. Mrs. Vance and I will be welcoming our first child, a daughter, sometime in the very near future (our due date is Feb. 26). I know several others 11w regulars are expecting, too, so I figured this was a nice opportunity to start a baby announcement thread, as at least one other poster asked me to keep the community apprised of developments.
PopeUrban is due around the same time as we are, PoisonNuts is due in about seven months, BucksFanXC is expecting around August, and Buckeyeneer is due in about a month.
So, feel free to add your name to the list if you're currently gestating (well, more likely if your significant other is gestating), to talk shop about Daddy stuff, discuss favorite Ohio State baby gear or things to do with your young kids, etc. I'll bump this from time to time, and we can announce our arrivals and such here, too.
Consider it your one-stop-shop for 11w baby news, okay?

Congrats to all the future parents and welcome to the club!

Praise Woody for your new Buckeyes! My two year old daughter recognizes Ohio State stuff everywhere. Anytime she sees Buckeye anything she yells 'GO BUCKEYES' at the top of her lungs. She also has officially traded in her stuffed dog and doll baby for a stuffed Brutus.
Congrats to all expecting parents. May your children be healthy and smart enough to never wear smurf and yellow!

I'm going to have a constant battle on the wearing the colors thing... The Mrs. is a devout Mountaineer, and their colors are a little too close for comfort :)
As long as it has a W and a V you're safe Andy.
-The Aristocrats!
Same problem for me but she isn't near as big a fan as I am. She might get more excited at times during games but will be just fine with our baby girl wearing ohio state over WVU gear.

Andyvance, you and I have had this conversation already about the mountain mamas. How many of our Buckeye brethren on here have married WV girl ? Just wondering
My two year old daughter and I were watching tv and a commercial came on with a baby crying. My daughter asked "why is the baby crying daddy?" I said " because someone said go Blue". She responded "oh no, go buckeyes baby please don't cry." Ever since she gets mad at people that say go blue and explain to them how it makes babies cry. My wife and I are very proud.
Enjoy every minute parenthood really is the greatest thing you will ever experience.

Great story. I am slowly winning the battle for our 4 year old daughter. My wife's a Tsun girl & is always whispering 'go-blue' to her. It's brutal. So I got our daughter a antique Brutus doll that says 'Go Buckeyes!' Every time you squeeze his hand. Not only does she only say 'Go Buckeyes' nowadays, but that Brutus doll is her favorite toy...I love my wife & all, but when it comes to OSU vs. UM, there will be no quarter.

One other thing I did with my daughter was make her a Buckeye necklace. We have a "go buckeye tree" in the backyard and last fall we gathered up a bag full a week before the first game of the season. (note that early they have fluid in them). I ran to a craft store and picked up string and beads as well as her initials on silver charms. I used a 1/16 drill bit and prepared everything and we sat down and assembled it together. Even though one of my friends pulled a man card it was totally worth it and hopefully something she remembers for a long time.
Good luck with yours.

As the proud father of three with the youngest being a freshman at OU, I say congrats and good luck to you all. And for you first timers, your lives are about to change in a great way. By the way, has anyone found out what causes this yet?
No, but I was planning further research on the subject after our daughter's birth...
Congrats, all y'all! But, more importantly, this means we need to set up a calendar pool for the babies' due dates. What's that? No, I don't have a problem at all.
This sounds like a great idea! We're due the 26th... What's the over/under on that, do you suppose?
I'll take the 27th!
....wait you weren't serious?
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
I'm calling it for the 25th. The baby's coming early. Ya heard it here first.

Best of luck Andy! I was fortunate enough to have 4 daughters of my own. All are big Buckeye fans, and one proudly displays her OSU pride at Eastern Michigan, just 7 miles from our rivals!
Congratulations everyone!
In orthopedics this morning a young girl needed a cast on her right arm, and said "I want an Ohio State one. Can I get an Ohio State cast?" Why yes,....yes you can.
Hopefully your kids love OSU as much as you all do!
I like football
My wife and I are expecting baby Buckeye boy number 2, on April 10th! My 18 month old son is already being taught by "Papaw Buckeye" and myself to love TOSU! He has a jersey, autographed National Champs football by coach JT and other TOSU items. Being a farm kid, he likes his tractors more than anything.
Congrats to everyone else that's expecting! I hope everyone is doing well and that everything goes well for all. +1 for the calendar pool...
My much better half is due May 24th with our first. Sometime around then my 8-bit Buckeye avi will likely be replaced with an 8-lbs baby Buckeye girl.

Looks like me and you were doing the same thing about 6 months ago. I'm also having a little girl on may 24th, I couldn't name her Carmen ohio so I settled with Isabelle. Cheers to the swimmers that reached the finish line in first place!
Currently only 18 so not looking to have kids anytime soon (that require a girl as well and I'm lacking in that category) but in the future if I have a girl Carmen will absolutely be on top of the list for names
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
LOL... That's awesome. If your wife is like mine, for both of our sakes and sanity, I hope our future daughters are early to the party.
I was hoping for Carmen or Scarlet, and while nothing is final final, both got nixed... Name reveal after she arrives. Isabelle is a great great name.
Cheers! Definitely calls for some bourbon...

In the Labor & Delivery wing with wifey as I post this one. Induction in progress for a "buckeye" boy. Congrats to all of the soon-to-be and currently-are "buckeye" parents out there.
Way to go, guys. Hope you have as much fun as I have had raising my 3 daughters, grown and gone. I hope you enjoy every moment!
Gotta add that my first daughter was born at tOSU hospital. She had apgar scores of 1 and 4 and was in intensive care for 6 days. The very best care! She survived and thrived and now teaches biology at a smaller midwest university.
Congrats/Best of luck, Andy. My wife and I just had our first on December 4th...a girl as well.
She's also much smarter than me already, seeing as she chose to sleep through last Sunday's Wisconsin game, while I watched every painful minute of it.
My wife and I just had our second child (daughter) on the 15th. She attended her first Buckeye game this past season when tOSU beat down PSU in creepy valley. I can't wait to take her to her second game!

Congrats!
As for me, I like spending money on my Harley too much to be having any kids, I couldn't imagine paying tuition in 18 years!
"Because I couldn't go for 3"
See this for more insight as to why your Harley is probably a less expensive investment BY FAR...
18 years from now I would bet tuition is $40,000 per year if it continues to rise at the same rate!
"Because I couldn't go for 3"
Congratulations to all the recent additions and all that are expecting! There can never be enough buckeye fans! Here's to happy, healthy babies that sleep through the night.....soon!
Haha! Thanks for the mention Andy & hope all's well on that front. BTW...if you're anything at all like me, having a daughter is the best thing that ever happened. Daddies little girl and so on! Only problem is that I have a hard time saying no to her so she's a bit spoiled. We don't know what the next one is yet, but I won't mind at all if we find out we're having another girl.

So far, having a girl is the only thing I've ever done to please my Mother-in-Law... My folks, on the other hand, had made it well known that I'd damn well better be having a boy :) They're quickly getting over that.
One of my buddies asked if I was disappointed about not having a boy. My response? "Are you kidding me? I've already got the shotgun!" I'm truly looking forward to having a Daddy's Little Girl.
My OCD is officially flaring up...all I can concentrate on at this moment is how I spelled "Daddy's" the wrong way!!
Looking forward to hearing your good news soon...

As noted below, I have soon to be 5 nieces. I once asked my brother if he still wanted another child with a chance to have a boy (he has 2 of my nieces) and he said no because the girls are what hold the family together and he wouldn't trade that for anything. So while all guys would like a boy at some point, it seems like no guy would ever trade for that once they had "daddy's little girl."
I'm happy for you, bud.
Congrats to all of you guys! I am not a father, but I am the uncle to 4 gorgeous little girls and a soon to be 5th in mid April. Good luck and I hope all goes well!
My wife and I are expecting in July! I have an almost 4 year old step-daughter who loves the Buckeyes :-). Baby 2 will be a diehard like myself.
I'm relatively new to the 11W blog, long time reader, just getting active in the forums and Open Threads. I have to say I really appreciate the site, the members, and of course content. My wife also appreciates it because I don't openly rage about the games and just rant to you other Buckeyes online. This will REALLY help with a newborn in the football season.
Just found out today we are having a girl!!!!
Congrats! How exciting!

My wife and I are expecting our first Buckeye baby. We are having a little girl. We are 32 weeks on Saturday so about 2 months to go. Very exciting times. My wife has found lots of homemade Ohio State Baby gear on Etsy. It seems to be more geared towards baby girls.

Tip to all you fellow expectant dads, play some TBDBITL while still in the womb. Tell your wives it helps brain development. Start 'em early!
We are planning Baby #1's first b-day party for this weekend and she is cutting some more teeth. Let me warn ya about that, I thought the front (narrow pointy) teeth put us through hell. GET TEETHING TABLETS AND ORAJEL! These wider flat teeth trying to fist their way through her gums is killing me, let alone her. She's got a fever, runny nose, whole nine yards. Look forward to it guys!
“Any time you give a man something he doesn't earn, you cheapen him. Our kids earn what they get, and that includes respect.” - Woody
Bucksfanxc,
I have an 18 month old little boy and we are about done with cutting teeth. My wife bought an amber necklace off Amazon. It cost roughly 30 bucks and is supposed to help with the teething process. I was not thrilled with my little man wearing a necklace: safety reasons, but my wife's chiropractor assured me the necklace is safe. It seemed to work, but would get the "all natural" ingredient drops too. I forget the name of the drops, they worked GREAT and can purchase at most herbal / natural stores. Hang in there, it will get better! Potty training is on deck for me.....yeah!
My wife and I, Lord willing, will have our 2nd child in September. We have a special needs little girl who will be 3 in April. We just pray that this baby will be healthy! Prayers welcome. Congrats to all the future buckeyes and their families!!
How Firm Thy Friendship....
Congratulations, everyone. Exciting times ahead.
Buckeye # 3 is on the way for the Phillips family! Both parents are tOSU alumni so no worries about diluting the buckeye gene pool here! Already have a little lady and dude, so we don't care what comes next because the buckeye hand-me-downs are covered either way. Wife is due July 9th which is the day before my birthday (great present for me!). Congrats to all other breeders of bucks!
June 23rd for muh baby
Congrats everyone! I'm proud to say my wife and I are still in the, how shall I say it..."molding" stage. I'll do what I can to catch up fellas!
So here's some advice before having kids:
1) travel- you won't be able to get away once the kids arrive for a good few years, then it's Disneyland and camping trips til they are too old to even want to travel with you.
2) be selfish- once there are kids, it's no longer about you. Sleep in, go out, eat whatever you want, watch what you want on tv, go to a movie theater, etc.
3) drive a tiny car- post-baby you won't be able to fit a stroller, car seat, diaper bag, etc in the back of your coupe. I just got a minivan with #2 on deck and I love it. It is so great for families with young ones in ways you can only understand once you have them
“Any time you give a man something he doesn't earn, you cheapen him. Our kids earn what they get, and that includes respect.” - Woody
As a father of 18 month old twins and a "Little Miss Buckeye" due in late May, I completely concur with this advice to future parents. I cannot stress enough how your days of "sleeping in" are limited (if not over) and how difficult traveling can be. I swear, it seems that small armies have been mobilized faster than the time it takes for us to embark on family trips. Best of luck to all the new Buckeye parents and babies!
My second Buckeye Girl will be born in no later than 4 weeks. I'm excited for all the sweet hand me down tOSU gear she will get from her sister.
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
Congrats to all. We have 5 yr old triplets (soon to be 6) and a 4 yr old. They are already big Buckeye fans. They ask me every Saturday what time the game is on, even in the off season. Still working on that. They will not say the m word, to them it is a bad word. Enjoy them while they are lttle because it does not last long. GO BUCKS!
Me and the wife are due to have our first on Feb 24th.
Already got her an ohio state outfit and mini football.
"We have always had the best damn band in the land, now we have the best damn team in the land"- Jim Tressel 1-03-03
My son is 19 months and my daughter is due on April 3. I cringe to think of the amount of money I have spent on Buckeye swag. On the plus side, I was able to buy just about every buckeye DVD I could find and justified it to my wife as necessary to teach our son about Ohio State's rich history.

Ok, I have to ask, I see all these babies due end of February and I can't be alone. How many of you planned this due date cuz we wanted to keep birth and birthdays in the football offseason? (only on a Buckeye obsessed blog would this question be considered to be asked?)
“Any time you give a man something he doesn't earn, you cheapen him. Our kids earn what they get, and that includes respect.” - Woody
In our case, the "family planning" was all about summer vacation... My wife is a huge Civil War buff, and this summer is the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg... SO, she really, really wanted to go, but didn't want to trek around a muggy, steamy battlefield 8-months preggers. She laid down the law that if we weren't pregnant by a certain date, we'd hang up our spurs (metaphorically speaking, of course) and try again for a due date well after July 4, 2013.
We tried to keep things out of my busy season at work, the football season, and months that already have birthdays/anniversaries
“Any time you give a man something he doesn't earn, you cheapen him. Our kids earn what they get, and that includes respect.” - Woody
In our case, we'll have Valentine's Day (14th), our Anniversary (24th), AND Gizmo's birdthday all in the span of two weeks... I guess at least I'll never forget one of them :)
Well, in the case of my son who was born in July, he was the result of a post-buckeye victory celebration. As for my soon-to-be daughter, that was all my wife's planning. I just turned 33 and told my wife when we got married (30) that she had until I turned 40 to make babies, then I am done. She is younger so she has time, but I didn't want to be an old dad. Since she comes from a large family, she wants a brood of children so I gave her a time frame and told her to figure out the logistics.

Ours is due this August due to a post-game victory over TSUN :)
August 17th here. Barely made it in before the season!
We have the due date right now of August 25th, but we'll be a scheduled C-section and I think my wife, who is very impatient, will want to schedule as soon as possible so I'm hoping we go earlier. That way in later years when the football schedule is 13 games and needs to start sooner than it does now, we'll still be safe.

53 years old and 3 kids later.I wish you young guys all the luck in the world with your little bundles of joy. I now have a 2 year old grand daughter who is about to get her first of many Buckeye cheerleader uniforms. Pictures will be coming.....lol
My wife and I will be bringing in a new Buckeye fan into the world this September. I'm super excited as this will be our first child. I'm just hoping the kid is born on a weekday and not on a Saturday.
PS - stay away from baby making in December, January, and February if you don't want your kid to be born during football season.
Looks like a bunch of us will be talking in September because that is when ours is due as well. Looks like at least 4-5 new Buckeyes will be coming around just as season starts...

Best Buckeye baby name I've ever heard was Scarlet Grace.
I've heard, not sure if it is true or not that out there somewhere is a girl named Scarlet Ann Gray. That might take the cake in best buckeye names.
Awesome! I wanted to name my daughter Scarlet but my wife wouldn't let me. Though she said that that one is on the short list if we have another girl.

Took my daughter (3yrs) to her first game this past season (Cal) - great to share the Buckeye love with another generation. I will say though, carrying a kid from the Coffey Rd shuttle stop to the top of C deck on the east side of the stadium is no joke......not as in shape as I thought I was.

I have 4 kids (I know, I know, could have stopped at 2 when I had a girl and a boy, but the wife wanted more, and I am extremely glad I didn't fight it) and I can honestly say that even at the worst and hardest moments of parenthood, I wouldn't trade them for anything and would do it all over in a heartbeat.

Any offers from Nick Saban yet?
Great news, my friends: after a hellish two days (33 hours of labor!) my beautiful bride delivered a happy, healthy baby girl! Right now she's said that she wouldn't mind it on a smaller scale. Maybe a row of three. Fine by me, I'll be the one painting the thing. If I go bigger, what can she do about it?

I'm not pregnant <whew> but speaking of life events, my now fiance proposed just before Christmas, the day of the first real snowfall, at Mirror Lake after taking me (successfully) down The Long Walk. Then he arranged a car to drive us to the Varsity Club and Hendoc's for a drink/family phone calls and then to a restaurant to meet a bunch of our friends. We're both alumni.

Dang, thought I was original! This is very similar to how my fiancee and I got engaged. We're both alumni and I took her down the Long Walk in August. Had a friend pop an empty ring box on the pedestal of the statue of President Thompson. When she picked it up, I was on one knee behind her with the real thing.

He actually opened the ring box by the little fountain at the shallow end of Mirror Lake. Mirror Lake is beautiful at Christmas, someone puts lights in all the trees surrounding it making it a lovely scene especially with fresh snow.

Alright! its gameday. I've been in the hospital since sunday at 1am after my wife went into pre-term labor. We are 5 weeks early. She's had strong contractions since sunday night and no medicine has been able to stop them. Doc says baby's heartbeat is very strong so everything is looking good. I'm kind of nervous. Epidural put in a few hours ago, water just broke. Waiting on my Buckeye girl now!!!!
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
Best wishes Glue
Congratulations! Here's to hoping for an easy delivery and good health for mom and baby!
I have three teenage boys myself. It goes by quickly.
ps. although it says "burkmon" I am one of the female contributors on here.
Best of luck to mom and the little one, Glue...and you of course, lol
Thoughts and prayers with you all, my friend! Stay strong for now - holding that little girl is the best payoff in the world.
Heard the baby's heartbeat yesterday morning. Mom, at 17 weeks, seems to be carrying the baby low and the heartbeat is at 130.
Everyone has their sayings for that that means...3 more weeks and we will find out the sex.
Can't get here soon enough.
Awesome news, and congratulations! Our Little Princess is 16 days old, and being a Daddy is absolutely amazing. Okay, the crying is stressful, but ours is actually a really good baby, and sleeps well at night. Good luck!
You probably just jinxed yourself...Our first was the perfect baby, came home slept through the night, and 22 years later still sleeps whenever she can. The second one, well lets just say that she started out like yours and our first, but 6 months of colic, a washer, dishwasher, vacuum cleaner and and about half the hair on my head later, she grew out of it...Greatest feeling in the world is being a parent
I'd never wish to rain on this thread, as I absolutely adore my kids. Being a parent is one of most amazing gifts we'll ever have. But in the interest of full disclosure, so that none y'all go into this with any illusions . . .
My two-year is upstairs right now literally turning her room upside down because she does not want to take a nap. If you ask her to do something she doesn't want to do, she will fight you with every ounce of her being before she'd ever knowingly give in.
Now, I usually end up winning the battles, but only because she can redirected. If she had a an adult-level attention span and short-term memory, she'd basically be a 35-lb Cool Hand Luke, she's that stubborn.
That's why they call it the "terrible twos," right?
Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger (or, insert other motivational cliché here ;)
It'll pass Fido, mine was the exact same way. They all are. It's when they start having a sense they they are their own people & fight everything they possibly can, but it'll pass soon enough...

Well, since this forum came up again, I'll mention that we're having a boy...just found out yesterday! Expecting August 24! One of the first things the Mrs. said after finding out was "I guess that's another Buckeye fan in in the house"...I was all smiles!

However, you know this means that you'll be living with a 7/8-month old pregnant woman during the dog days of summer, right?
Yes...and in the dog days of summer in Florida no less...

Good luck and congrats! If it's a boy you should name him after Aaron Craft, Sam Thompson, Tank, or any other BBall player or coach. That's sure to get us at least a final four and you'd have a cool story to tell everyone.
Good luck! 9 weeks until I'm sitting in one of those seats...

OUTSTANDING!!!
My wife and I have a 16 month old baby boy and will be welcoming our 2nd baby boy in July. My favorite piece of OSU gear we have is a onsie we got for our first boy which says "I'm too cute to be a Michigan fan". We still have it and our next one will be wearing it soon.
Baby's due in a few hours!

Lizzie was born at 4:06pm! Wife wants her to be a Bobcat (she went to OU). That's never gonna happen. Already got her an OSU onesie. She'll be my good luck charm in the upcoming season(s).

After three kids I can say I'm a pro. My wife and I were young when we had are first. I wish we would have had the option to wait, but I wouldn't change a thing. One girl and two boys. I used my pocket knives to cut the cords. When they turn 16 I'm giving them each the knife I used. The last one to come out was on the side of the road. We almost made it. The EMT still let me use my knife. So no worries to all of you new dads. And enjoy every minute of it.
Bury me in my away jersey, with my buckeye blanket. A diehard who died young. Rip dad.
Good lord, you must have some huge cajones. I don't think I could be that calm in a road-side delivery situation.

I was thinking the same thing - of course, the whole pocket knife umbilical cord thing was studly enough to start with.
My wife and I have a baby boy on the way! Due in early August!! Go Bucks!!!

Our first wait finally is over. Found out it was a girl yesterday!

WooHoo! Love these pictures!!!

Ha, these are thanks to the Original Goodie Shop in Upper Arlington. I'd never tried them out before and I called our normal bakery and they were closed because one of the staff members was having a wedding. Did a quick google search, saw the buckeyes and was sold on this one.
Turned out pretty good.
Those are amazing!

my wife was expecting. I don't know why I let her lick all of those envelopes...... : (
While I have no children on the way (thank God for now), my oldest sister just had her 3rd daughter today (my 5th niece)...Margaret Lyn. She is utterly adorable. Everything obviously went well and mom and baby are both doing great. And it doesn't hurt that my sister is a Buckeyes fan as well!
My fiancee and I found out last week that we are expecting! This is our first child and to say that I am excited is understating it!!! Congrats to all the fathers in this thread and here is to the new wave of Buckeye Babies coming in!!!!!! The pic is from this last weekend when we told her parents and this is what Grandma-to-be went out and bought the next day!!

I just got around to this post, which was right around the time that my wife was 8 months pregnant with our first. She gave birth to our daughter on March 20th and I was able to watch the semifinals and finals of the NCAA wrestling tournament while holding my sleeping daughter.
Congratulations to all new and future parents. I've found it's a feeling like none other.
CONGRATS! Our Kyra is 11 weeks old today, and you're right - it's an amazing feeling, being someone's Dad.
Future Safety for the OSU Buckeyes turns 3 weeks tomorrow. Cameron is his name!
