I was thinking the other day about how much I still hate Mike Hart (this comes up sometimes. Don't know what to tell you) which led to me and a friend talking about the things people have said about the Buckeyes over the years. We settled in the end on one quote as being the most infuriating to us:
"Bad call! Bad call!" -Dan Fouts, as the television continuously replayed the least relevant portion of the play that had just occurred.
With four words spoken before bothering to observe the entire play, Fouts ensured that for the rest of my life (so far) I would have non-Bucks fans question the end to one of the greatest seasons I'd ever seen. There is nothing I enjoy quite as much as mentioning the 2002 national championship, then seeing the other persons face adopt a patronizing expression as if I were referring to a checkers game that they let me win when I was seven and my Mom had just died the week before. That "oh, well technically I guess you won" look. Then they say it. I never know exactly whatthey'll say, but the word "call" is going to be in it.
I'm curious, what are other people's least favorite anti-Buckeye quotes?

Free tattoos!
(Anything about tattoos/Tatgate and especially when it's compared to or lumped in with Sandusky/PSU or Miami or other similar suspensions like USC or lack there of like sCAM.)
Gray, I never really think about Tatgate bothering me as a phrase, but you hit the nail on the head with the comparison to the PSU/USC/and Miami scandals. I am a homer- I try not to be- but I think our "scandal" is nowhere near the other three mentioned.
Thanks for making me angry.
Sorry for making you angry Pope! I still don't like it too! It's mainly the association of Tatgate to the other actual scandals, however I don't like it when the tattoos are also claimed as cheating or that it somehow gave those players or the school a competitive advantage. They may have broke NCAA rules by selling or trading their things, but that doesn't mean they cheated and it wasn't like the tattoos had performing enhancing drugs in them that gave them a competitive advantage. So I don't like it for a lot of reasons! If the NCAA loses their lawsuit and the Tat5 get near, or more, then what they traded their stuff for; I really won't be happy!
for some reason i cannot stand when I see O$U...really grinds my gears.
Upvote for saying "grinds my gears".
Fouts was already tough to stomach as a color commentator, he was about as colorful as a cardboard box. His opinion on the call was a little fanboy-ish, I just remember hurling non-stop STFU's at him.....
Sticking with the '02 season, I really tired of hearing the team referred to as the 'Luckeyes'. Was living in PA at the time, that's all I'd get from Nittany Lion (they still know who Chris Gamble is) and Notre Dame fans. How much luck was there......that team didn't quit.
Guess now I should be a little ticked about the use of Ohio by Hoke and Co., but they can have it if it makes them feel better about themselves.
"Success - it's what you do with what you got" - Woody Hayes
Am I the only person on the planet that really liked the Fouts/Miller/Michaels combo on MNF? I am, aren't I? Sort of embarrassed to admit it. I guess maybe that's why he didn't really bother me during the NC game. It was during that game that I realized just how old Keith Jackson had gotten. His play by play was way off that night. I thought for sure that would be his last season calling games.
regardless of "the call" being good or bad, it didn't win or lose the game for OSU. That penalty didn't give OSU anymore points. Miami's defense gave up the points that led to their loss.
This is not a anti-Buckeye quote, but those who remember the "dark" years (early 1990's) will probably agree with me. Keith Jackson saying, "Helllllloooooo Heisman," after Desmond Howard ran back a 93 yarder in the 1991 The Game. It pissed me off even more when the creep did the Heisman pose in the end zone. I want to extend the bird and puke each time I see the damn play!
Oh man, I had forgotten about that. Now I can actually hear it in my head.
I still wish for a big cheap shot from behind every time I see that play. It would have been the most worthwhile 15 yards/ejection in Buckeye history.
Class of 2010.
Whoever did that would be a HERO
If Denard Robinson isn't careful with spooning all that food into his mouth, he's going to end up lookin' like Whoopi Goldberg
The thing that really irks my ass is that BOTH of scUM's Heisman trophy winning douche-bag players from Ohio had TD punt returns against OSU that featured blatant, un-called holds at mid-field. Desmond's has faded quite a bit in my memory (and I refuse to ever watch it again), but Chucky's I remember clear as day - our gunner was essentially grabbed with two hands and yanked to the turf.
No call on either one and nary a mention by the announcers. I'd like to find every piece of footage out there of those plays and loop in Dan Fouts "BAD CALL! BAD CALL!" about 6000 times.
Don't forget that he posed backward AND has 48 teeth.

"Luckeyes"
The first syllable to come out of Mark May's mouth. Always.

Any utterings from Fat Urkel......second that. Upvoted.
"Success - it's what you do with what you got" - Woody Hayes
Gotta say when Herbie took the shot at Tressel's playing calling and went over the top to question why an offensive player would ever consider Ohio State. Just couldn't believe he would go that far against OSU.
That and the site of Bruce Hooley's face or anything he attempts to call writing.
I get a lot of "Luckeyes" & "Suckeyes" tossed at me from the generally obnoxious SEC crowd I live and work around. I also hear a lot about OSU cheating and tattoos. The Urban Meyer hate has picked up as well.
The people Austin, Texas are generally positive about the Buckeyes (In person, Intarweb message boards are a different animal). There was and remains a tremendous amount of respect for Jim Tressel, Woody Hayes, etc. I wear Buckeye gear all the time here and rarely get any kind of greif (I rarely go near UT which probably has a lot to do with it.)
I have a lot of family in Chicago, and they are a different animal. There were a lot of people in that part of the world that were waiting on Tressel to fail and all they ever want to talk about is Clarrett, Pryor's fleet of cars, and free tattoos.
Whenever someone mentions Ohio State-Michigan all-time record after we beat them in football
I like football
I hate when other lesser fanbases (mostly Michigan's, they grasp for any reason to claim they're better) claim we only were good under Tressel because we cheated. Ohio State Football did not cheat during Tat-gate. Getting a few tattoo's in exchange for a pair of gold pants or a sportsmanship award does not in any way shape or form give a team an advantage on the football field. And it was FIVE players. The Buckeyes dominated the B1G for 10 years under Tressel. "Cheating" is using steroids or other performance enhancers, not getting a few free Tats
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
I'm probably going to get some crap from this, but technically we were cheating. Obviously m*chigan fans are taking it to the extreme because it was not the only reason we were good, but technically Tressel played players that should have been ineligible. If he would have reported the violations in the first place the " Tat- 5" would have probably just served minor suspensions early in the 2010 season and it would have been over. However not reporting the violation and playing ineligible players is cheating. However this only effected one year. If you think that the ten years of dominance came from this one isolated incident you should get your head checked.
In my eyes, that's not cheating. OSU didn't cheat during Tatgate if you think about it. To me, cheating is gaining an unfair competitive advantage on the field.
Trading your own stuff - no competitive advantage
Getting tattoos - no competitive advantage
More money in your pocket - no competitive advantage
And then the point about playing ineligible players. Some will say that's cheating. To me, it's not. Playing your normal roster is not a competitive advantage. Having key players get suspended is a competitive disadvantage. And that's the point - you break rules, you get punished with a competitive disadvantage. But under different circumstances (tatgate players not breaking rules, or different rules that allow you to trade your own stuff for tattoos/cash), those players would've been eligible. Same roster.
Class of 2010.
1) Luckeyes\Suckeyes\f**keyes.
Its like-ok we get it. The name is Buckeyes, and Buck rhymes with Luck and Suck so all you need to do is switch one letter and if OSU is the benefactor of a fortunate call-they are lucky so BAM! they are the Luckeyes. Or, since you don't like them, they must SUCK so WOOOAH! They are the Suckeyes. But here's the big secret-they don't suck. Even when they do (2011) they are still better than a lot of the nation. Its like when people say "Tom Brady sucks!". They are just words. He doesn't. Neither does Ohio State. Shut up trolls. Don't get me started on the third one. Ok bro, you are cool because you swear-if you don't mind I would like fries with that.
2) Tatgate exposed Ohio State as cheaters
This one really irks me because part of the blood lust surrounding people calling for Ohio State's head had to do with the fatherly, saintly image Jim Tressel portrayed so when there was trouble on the horizon that maybe Mr. Squeaky Clean wasn't so clean, people lined up far and wide to take their whacks at OSU-but here's the big secret-Ohio State does not do business any differently than any other program in the nation-nor have they ever claimed to be doing anything different. We never hammered the idea of, say, "Success with Honor" down people's throats because we know-when you sell yourself as something you aren't, eventually the truth comes out and wouldn't you know it-Tressel was shown to be a corner cutter! Oh my! Shut up.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
I get #2 from a TSUN grad at work. It's like arguing with a child. I take the high road and tell him to come back when they are significant.
But they are significant. They lost 5 times on national television. Doesn't that make you a good team??
ask our bball team!
The difference is we aren't saying we are a top 5 team like they were
Charles Woodson was taking money from an agent during the entire 1997 season at Michigan. Toss this gem at your tsun co-worker and let the excuses/deflections flow. Colin Cowherd has mentioned Woodson a few times the past few years when discussing the USC/OSU/Miami violations.

Thanks. I'll keep these links bookmarked for future reference.
I was just going to say the same thing JELLIGRIM... I just cannot talk to a person who even when the point you are making becomes so obvious they refuse to acknowledge it
Battles are sometimes won by generals; wars are nearly always won by sergeants and privates. Football is no different, the guys down in the trenches win the games, not the coach.
Stated above, but being called "cheaters" as if tattoos made us run faster or throw farther.
I was in Miami for the game a few years ago. A nightmare in itself. At one of the tailgates, a guy yells, "hey we got free tattoos over here". I responded "we got free hookers". They asked us to have a beer with them.
Should add "free abortions" too.
Anytime I hear some ignorant fool call Tressel a crook or scum.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Hated hearing, "hey what bowl game you guys playing in?" I heard it the other day actually. My response has always been, "We're playing in the Urban Meyer Owning Your Collective Asses for the next Decade Bowl" That shuts them up because they know it's true.
"Sherman ran an option play right through the south" - Greatest.Civil.War.Analogy.Ever
Most of the people who said that to me were fans of teams that lost their bowl games or had a high likelihood if losing the bowl game so I would tell them that come January 2 we would have the same number of bowl wins but one us would feel good about it
"Who cares? Go Bucks." - Aaron Untch
Every word that came out of Mike Tirico's mouth during the Alamo Bowl. It was just after Clarett did his bogus interview and all Tirico wanted to talk about was a guy who hadn't played for Ohio State in two years. That was such a fun game to watch but he ruined it by running his mouth.
"Anything easy ain't worth a damn." - Wayne Woodrow Hayes
I'm in the minority of people that aren't offended by stuff people say. I don't hear it often and even when I do, its nothing to get me worked up. I'm really thick skinned so its hard to piss me off. Some others that I've heard include:
(sung to the tune O When the Saints come Marching in)
O How I Hate Ohio State
O How I Hate Ohio State
O What the F**K is a Buckeye
O its just a F**king Nut
If you listen close enough for when OSU plays Wisconsin in basketball you can hear it. When I went to the Red Shed last fall a girl was kind enough to sing it to me close to the pool table I was at. I gladly turned to her and joined in mocking her and told her "I appreciated the fact you made up a song just for my school. It was an honor to be hated." She seem to get even madder but I bought her a beer, beer talked and told her its all in fun.
Can't spell C_CK_ _CKER with out OSU
Saw this in Madison as well....
Comblowus for free tattoos
Madison as well
Enjoy your bowl game
How was your bowl game
What bowl game will you be going to
Everyone I know has told me this...
Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012
Badger bitterness makes me all giddy inside.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Tim Brando, when he accused Urban of "politicking" for the Bucks to be able to play for a division title even though that was false. When challenged about his stupidity he responded " Get the Scarlet and grey out of your head. Urban's act was tired and old at Florida before he left. It is again."

I used to enjoy Brando, but his subjective bias minimized his credibility in my eyes. Arguing with fans on twitter abolished that credibility completely.

Bob Ryan, Boston Globe"reporter"/Asshat: On the Sports Reporters, Boston Globe talking head Bob Ryan compared Jim Tressel to Joe Paterno, saying at least JoPa reported to his AD.
Seriously.
In response to an email, Ryan responsed "probably a poor choice. Just wanted to dig at that phony Tressel." Bob Ryan is a POS.

I find it amusing when TTUN fans call us the Suckeyes... It's like okay, we dominated you for the past decade so what you're telling me is, is that TTUN sucks even more?! Awesome.
Their response to that is usually blaming Rich Rod. When you bring up Tressel being 6-1 against Lloyd Carr, their response is "he was cheating".
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
I for one, forget how it feels to be in denial but I'm sure it isn't too pretty lol
