If there are any fans of Samari films, Akira Kurosawa Film or Star Wars films make sure you watch Criterion's pick The Hidden Fortress if you haven't already. George Lucas has acknowledged that Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope was heavy influenced by The Hidden Fortress. Some people even consider Episode IV a loose adaptation of Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress due to the similar plot, characters and even the frame wipes Lucas used.

A lot of his films were remade into westerns (without crediting him of course). See "Seven Samurai" and "The Mafnificent Seven". Also "Yojimbo" was made into "A Fistful of Dollars" and the 1996 Bruce Willis film "Last Man Standing". Rashomon was made into the western "The Outrage". Those films are at times shot for shot remakes of his films. People credit his influence for the creation (In whole or in part) of the western film genre. Not to mention countless other films that were in some way influenced by his works. He's probably one if the most influential directors most people have never heard of.
