With all the crappy news about cheats liars and dupes over the last several days, I thought I ask why are there so many Cleveland joints on DD&D's and what other OH joints are worth a visit.

#1 in the Portsmouth area.

Anyone been to the Hamburger Inn in Delaware Ohio? Is sucks sooo bad it's awesome!
I live in Delaware. The Hamburger Inn is a greasy diner at it's absolute finest!
We should strive to keep thy name, of fair repute and spotless fame...
(Also, I'm not a dude)
I second this! The Corner Cafe is a fine place as well.
american cheese in my chili please
SWENSONS
Swenson's all day
Does it have a website?
http://www.swensonsdriveins.com/
They have great shakes too, the pumpkin shake in the fall is one of the best I have had.
The one in West Akron is 5 minutes from my house, it was the first Swensons, and it's heavenly
Galley Boy from Swenson's is heavenly!
my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
also Whitey's Booze N' Burgers is outstanding.
True that. Ever been to Hodge's Cafe in Barberton? Best burger I've ever had.
Been to Hodge's!
Literally 1 minute from where I work, have you been to Muskateers (Suprisingly good pizza from a local bar) or Gasoline Alley? Two of my favorites in that area.
I haven't, but i will now! Thanks for the tip!
Been to Gasoline Alley once, and liked it. Anyone here been to Louie's in North Akron? Definitely a hole in the wall, but the burgers are top notch
i love whitey's!
Show them Ohio's here!
then you and i can be friends
i will take my chili czar'd please and thank you.
SWENSONS IS THE BEST.

Toledo - home to the King of Hot Dogs:
Tony Pacos?
EXACTLY...Should get down voted just for suggesting Rudy's and not Tony Pacos..
100% of unprayed prayers go unanswered
No way...Most people in Toledo know that Rudy's is much better than Tony Packo's. The only reason Tony Packo's is more popular is the attention Jamie Farr gave them on MASH.
and he wore a dress!!! ;)
I've had both and Packo's is the best hands down. Rudy's is good, but Packo's is better. JMHO.
There's a reason Vitos has a Tony Packos pizza and not a Rudys...
100% of unprayed prayers go unanswered
I want to downvote this, but I don't think it is a good use of downvoting. Tony Packo's IS MUCH better than Rudy's.
dudley's on reynolds was better than both.
http://www.hillbillyhotdogs.com/
Rudy's is a Toledo icon. It's in the "greasy spoon" catagory, but it's a very good greasy spoon. This is the type of place you go for lunch at work. I love Rudy's. They even have a real juke box in them! And they even sell beer!
Packo's is a more upscale restaurant and world reknown. It's food is more expensive than Rudy's, but it is definitely better. Anytime someone famous come to Toledo, they go to Packo's and sign a "bun," as Bill Cosby did here.

Upvote for you, sir. I'm glad someone put that up here. I love me some Kewpee!

Used to have Kewpee in Toledo back in the 60s and 70s. No more though.

or wilson's in findlay
Uncle John's in Mansfirld...
I live in Mansfield and everyone says that place is great but I've always had lousy service and mediocre food
Porky's is the best and most disguisting greasy spoon in Mansfield. Ft long hot dog with works, fries, rings and a shake. 3,000 calories, immediate gradification and an evening on the throne guartanteed.
Myles Pizza in Bowling Green, Ohio....dine in neer the University....a large feeds 5. Also in Bowling Green, the South Side carryout has gyros from heaven, they used to have a deal that if you ate 5 gyros in an hour, you would win $500.00 (it's not humanly possible)
Ohler's in Findlay, Ohio for Mexican..... definite dive with strong margaritas
Villa Pizza in Johnstown, Ohio..... yummy
I went to BG (yrs ago, lol) and my son is attending in the fall. Going there this weekend for his "portfolio" review and will hit up South Side for a gyro. Always on the lookout for good Greek food. We live in Dayton and have a little place outside of Tampa on the gulf as well. Restaurant suggestions are always good thing. Especially Buckeye to Buckeye. : )
Don't forget about Campus Paulies (spell??) STUFFED BREADSTICKS
100% of unprayed prayers go unanswered
Campus Pollyeyes!! Yeahhhh!!
South side 6 not just the Gyros but the fries with the house sauce!!! damn I miss the food in that town!
Did some investigating on South Side 6. They've got a new contest. Six gyros in under sixty minutes pays out $666...been done 2 times. Wow
Haha! ABL we need to get together sometime soon and do some 12 ounce curls.
Judging by your pic John, it looks like you better do a few more exta sets!

in downtown dayton
(Olive's) Very good and very small. Reservations are highly recommended. Also one of the great dives is Tank's Bar and Grill in Dayton, close to the UD campus. Best hamburgers and hand cut fries.
Also check out Marion's Piazza, and Mike Sells potato chips... I often send both to friends and family in Texas and Florida at their request. Dayton is also known for the Pine Club steak house, where Presidents have dined. Laugh all you want. We have actually had many sitting Presidents stop in Dayton to dine here. Try the porterhouse for 2. Hey, "It's great in Dayton!".
If you're at Tanks, get the chili.
Been dying to try Tank's since I moved into the area. Also, there's a joint called the Buckin' Donkey Grill, it's a Steelers bar, but I'll forgive that because they serve breakfast all day, along with a donut burger and a beef on weck--which is a sandwich that I've been meaning to try for quite a while now.

Is skyline as good as some say?
Yes
Fan of bacon since 1981
Skyline > Gold Star all day. A cheese coney and a small three way. The best late night food there is. Have to visit the Skyline downtown. All the Reds stuff on the walls. Never ceases to amaze me the amount of people who pass through there in a day.

“Right now, Michigan is not at the pinnacle of college football, and that’s all Urban Meyer cares about...He’s been there and knows what it takes to get there.”
Since when does Skyline serve beer? I've always thought that was the dumbest move not to have suds with your coneys. Grew up in 'Nati, moved to BG. We had a Skyline in BG for a few years, but it never caught on. I always told my wife if they served beer the college kids would be there ten deep.
Actually, That one in Cincy on Seventh an Vine is the only one in the state that does serve beer, I believe.
“Right now, Michigan is not at the pinnacle of college football, and that’s all Urban Meyer cares about...He’s been there and knows what it takes to get there.”
Sorry, disagree with the others. It's dog food on noodles.
Had the same reaction after my first time there... Now I cant get enough of it. To each their own.
Nothing like dancing on the field in 02...
Blasphemy! I grew up in cincy and from a young age my dad would take me to skyline from time to time. Made me a lifetime fan. I can put down a lg 3-way, three cheese coneys, and a deluxe burrito. Wash it all down with a root beer, who needs suds when you got skyline?
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
I could eat that shit 3 X a week, and like it.
"Here officer, hold my beer while I find my license."
Skyline hits the spot in a way that is difficult to put into words
Grew up in Cincy, now I live in Jacksonville, FL..........At least once a year I drive 5 hours to Ft Lauderdale to the Skyline down there!
You can get it frozen from Walmart but it's just not the same!

I fucking love Cincinnati Style Chili! Toledo used to have 3 Skylines back in the 80s, then they all pulled out, to my dismay. I buy Skyline Chili in the can from Kroger's and sometimes make my own homemade version.

"Fins, Feathers and Bar BQ" and if you have never had them before go to any store and get some Grippos BBQ Chips(taste great on turkey sandwhich).
I like to believe that my best hits border on felonious assault.

Fins and feathers. Did that used to be ike's bbq?
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
Grippo's BBQ chips are so good...one of the few who said F-it to taking out the trans-fat...it's gotta be part of what makes them so good.
They also sell Grippo's BBQ seasoning/ dry rub so you can use it on BBQ meats etc.
D. Anthony
I think McDonald's took the trans-fat out of their fries and thats why they have NO flavor anymore. You have to douse them in ketchup just to get some taste.
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
I have Grippos shipped to Scal now and then. Just found out they now sell Graeters Ice Cream here!

Not sure if it was on Diners, Drive In's and Dives but it's be on a few shows. Absolutely delicious Polish food. Tremont area near Cleveland.

Not to far from Sokolwskis is an awesome Pub/Pizza place called Edisons. They serve pizza all night long until the bar closes and its awesome! Not to mention the bar has a good beer selection and a great atmosphere. Located along the main strip in Tremont where plenty of cool bars and eateries are at. Definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in Cleveland.

Its chinese food...good, but nothing spectacular
I should have said my favorite Chinese Food. I am not from Troy, but my wife's family is.
Jerrys Pizza Chillicothe one of a kind
Scioto Ribber as mentioned above tons of bengals players used to eat there i give 4-4.5 stars
There is a Jerry Pizza West now also..more of a sports-bar feel to it.
Great place to watch a Buckeyes game!!
“Right now, Michigan is not at the pinnacle of college football, and that’s all Urban Meyer cares about...He’s been there and knows what it takes to get there.”
Yes to both...Jerry's is pretty great
Nothing against Jerry's west but jerry's pizza is best enjoyed with the glatfelter (mead) aroma still stirring around your nose.
I was born in Columbus & raised on Zamarelli's Pizza in Grove City. I so miss it!
In Sandusky there is an awesome chinese place called Andy's China Dragon Express. it is wonderful
Two choices for Cleveland area: Slyman's on the near east side, and Melt in Lakewood.
Earle...If I'm not mistaken I believe that Slyman's is now closed. isnt that the one one the corner of like east 30th or 36th ?..and Melt now has 2 locations as there is now one on the Mentor / Willoughby border
Battles are sometimes won by generals; wars are nearly always won by sergeants and privates. Football is no different, the guys down in the trenches win the games, not the coach.
Pretty sure Slymans isnt closed, and melt must have three locations because one is also located on Cedar and Taylor rd in Cleveland Hts.
Haven't been to Slyman"s in a while. Hope its stll there. I've only been to the original Melt location.
Slymans isn't closed, it's just never open. They have weird hours. They seem to only be open on weekdays during work hours & they close early, but their business is so good that's really the only time they need to stay open.
It's 5 o'clock somewhere, & Michigan still sucks
just went there last week for lunch. def open. don't blame them for not being open when the sun isn't up thought...super sketch neighborhood.
make that 4 Melts, just checked site and there is one in Independence as well

Slyman's during lunch, during the week.
Giovanni's Pizza Portsmouth (love Ribber too)... Pizza Power!
Also Maidrite hamburgers Greenville
Plank's Cafe (the one on Parson's) in Columbus is a can't miss if you're looking for amazing pizza. Their slightly sweet crust makes it... Well, my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Make sure, though, that you do not go to the one on High-- different management, different (and less good) pizza.
Also, the Thirsty Scholar on Neil (mere stumbling distance from the Shoe) is a great dive if you're in the campus area. Cheap drinks, good food, did I mention cheap drinks?

The Kenilworth Tavern in Lakewood... on the Detroit Mile.
http://www.areyoukenilworthy.com/index2.htm
Good bar food, good tavern atmosphere. I think I've been in there over 1000 separate times.
SAdly, I've never been River buddy. Somehow I have never been in River for a significant amount of time since I've turned 21, so I just haven't made it there. I will make it a point to try. My parents and I do go to the West End every now and then - not bad, either.
I haven't read the other comments much, so I'm not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but I'm pretty sure a place called "Geraci's" in University Heights on the eastside of Cleveland was on Guy's show. When you walk in, he's got his face spray-painted on the wall with a frame around it. The pizza is good to me, out of all the Cleveland pizza places people make a big deal out of (Antonios, Romeos, Mama Santas, Valentinos), I personally prefer Geraci's because the sauce. It's got tomato chunks in it that turn out well when they're baked. And it's just quality stuff, alittle greasy like most everything else you get in Cleveland, but better than the others to me.
It's 5 o'clock somewhere, & Michigan still sucks
Yep, Geraci's was on DDD. Used to live right around the corner. Good pizza.
1. I believe Michael Simon's (first top chef winner I believe, host of his own current network show, and owner of a multitude of great dining establishments all over the Cleveland area) heavy influence in the media and with top national chefs and crittics have brought a well-deserved attention to the C-town cullinary arts seen, as he is also good friends with many other budding local chefs. There is quite a list of other food shows as well as DDD that has tapped the local seen, and honestly has still barely touched what it has to offer.
2. Tremont, Tremont, Tremont, the best of everything within a few blocks of each other (including Tai-Phun to add to the more regularly mentioned ones, Sonny the owner makes Thai soup to die for personally made to order, then puts on the most hillarious Kareoke performances to ever be witnessed at The Flying monkey next door)) E. 9th and W. 6 has some goodies as well
The other Melt is actually in Cleveland Heights, cedar/lee
B-spot east side , burgurs and beer in mayfield village has Simon's B'spot beat for burgurs IMO, and half the price
Chagrin Falls is a must visit with plenty of good eats and scenery
BammBamm is my dog, Riley is my 4 yr old daughter, and THE Ohio state Buckeyes complete the three most sacred loves I cherish
ok then theres a third Melt then and its in Points East Shopping Center on the Mentor/ Willoughby border on Mentor ave
Battles are sometimes won by generals; wars are nearly always won by sergeants and privates. Football is no different, the guys down in the trenches win the games, not the coach.
Ah....thnks..... reminds me, downtown Willoughby aint so shabby for eats as well

Symon didn't win Top Chef; he won the first Next Iron Chef competition, about 5 years ago. His flagship restaurant in downtown Cleveland, Lola (the 4th St. strip between Prospect and Euclid) is unbelievably awesome, but at their prices it's for special occasions only.
Symon used to host this other FN show called Food Feuds, where he attempted to settle arguments between legendary competitors in a particular city. He did one set in Barberton where the two restaurants were the original "Barberton chicken" place, Belgrade Gardens, and one of the local upstarts. I've been to Belgrade, and while it looks a little past its prime from the exterior and in the lobby, the chicken is really first-rate, and the prices are hard to beat.
The Lakewood Melt is great, but really small. We had about a 45 minute wait for a table one day this summer, and it was well after what should have been the lunch rush. Not sure if the other locations have more seating.
I don't think Fieri has done a show in Columbus ever, which is mildly ironic since he was born there (which is doubly ironic since his persona couldn't be less Midwestern).

G&R Tacern in Waldo Ohio is a pretty famous spot for German bologna. Also the OK cafe in Marion. I believe one of the staff is very familiar with the ok.
G&R is the shit, each time I head home, I try to make a stop.
What makes G&R so badass are the pics of Clint Eastwood, John Wayne and Charles Bronson above the backbar.
"It's just another case of there you are". ~ Doc (1918-2012)
G&R is da shit. Those German bolgna sandwiches are the best. I'm half tempted to make the 2 hour drive down there from NWOhio just for dinner and a sack of take home for later. The atmosphere is perfect too. Not to mention the prices are cheap.
Try a container of their bologna salad for take home. You'll dig it.
"It's just another case of there you are". ~ Doc (1918-2012)
Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try the next time I'm there.
I know I posted G&R but there's a little sports bar dive just on the outskirts of Waldo that deserves mentioned too. It's on the south end of town on the east side of the road. Their bologna sandwich is actually better in my opinion. Same bologna from the Delaware meat market but they prepare it differently. Stop in there and try it some time.
G&R is awesome! Best Bologna sandwich ever (sorry Eddie George's).
In relation to Marion. There is a pizza joint in the village of Green Camp (south east of Marion on 739) called Berwiick Pizza. I used eat there during baseball playoff games (they always seemed to host the games). Anyone ever been there? Some very tasty pie!
Flat Iron Cafe in Cleveland Ohio. I have dined there no less than 300 times. We had season tickets to the tribe for years and nothing hits the spot better after a 2 hour drive than their food.
Now I make sure I take all these Cincinnati folks up there when we make a 4 hour trip. Old Irish pub with great eats.

The Tasty Freeze aka Sherman's in Baltimore, OH
Probably don't all count as Diners, Drive-Ins or Dives, but a few of my favorites from the Dayton area:
-Marion's and Casano's Pizza
-DoubleDay's sports bar and grill (centerville)
-Wot-A-Dog Drive-In (New Carlisle)
-Hamburger Wagon (Miamisburg) -->Slider Size steak burgers with Onion, Pickle, and Pepper only...so good!
-Young's Dairy (Springfield) -->More of a Dessert destination with entertainment, but they have good food, as well.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
~Bo Schembechler
@Hail
I forgot to mention DoubleDays in my above post. Have you had the Mangold salad?
Worked in New Carlisle and Wot-A-Dog is a blast from the past.
El Meson is also worth mentioning in West Carrollton.
We're from the Dayton area also!
Marion's+++++
Buddy of mine in high school had family in Dayton (we grew up in Cincy). Would make the trip to visit his grandparents and we all would go to Marion's for dinner.
Casano's when made correctly is tops. Salted crust cooked close to well and a pitcher of beer can't be beat. Never understood the Marion's thing. Also need to shout for Rocky's Pizza Ring in Beavercreek.
Wot-a-dog, the Wagon are both great.
In Marysville, got to give it to Benny's, great pizza, BBQ and when a band is on stage, entertainment.
Pretty much any family owned Italian restaurants in Youngstown.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention my favorite eating place close to my home. LaRoe's in Grand Rapids OH. The food is good, the atmosphere is very nice(especially the back patio over looking the Maumee), and the owner knows Urban.
The Wigwam in Canal Winchester. Daily 'blue plate' specials, great breakfasts and good sandwiches. Homemade pies for desert. Their chicken and noodles are fabulous.

I'll go out on a limb here... In my opinion, The Lockview in downtown Akron is better than Melt.
Oh, and of course, this doesn't fall under D,D & D specifications, but if you've never been to The Hartville Kitchen in North Canton, you need to get there today.
I don't know if it is still open, but Rod's Burgers in Wilmington is amazing. I actually don't even know that is called Rod's, all I know is that its amazing and I haven't been in a long time.

Skyline is really good, but it's not my favorite chilli parlor out there. I like Dixie Chilli in NKY better. There are 3 or 4 locations and they are pretty good. The best of them all though, is probably Camp Washington Chilli. If you haven't been there, I highly recommend it. It's right off the Hopple Street Exit on I-75. I think it's exit 3. It's been featured on Travel Channel chowdown countdown before.
I've never been before, but I hear Price Hill Chilli is great, and also BlueAsh Chilli was on the Show Dinners Drive Ins and Dives.
Heard the same thing about Dixie and Camp Washington.
Work 5 mins from Blue Ash Chili... Its ok. Been to Price Hill Chili which is more of a west side hang out which I think drives some of the notoriety.
Nothing like dancing on the field in 02...
I like Dixie because it's so meaty, it's not as watery as Skyline, it also has a little more heat to it than the Skyline variety. I'm lucky I have both within about 3 miles of my house! Probably the closest Dixie Chilli if you live in Cincinnati, is in Newport on Monmouth Street.
If you like to cook, I have a killer recipe for homemade Cincinnati style chilli as well. Of course you could always just buy beef and packets of skyline season as well, or the cans at the store. My version once again is meatier and it isn't as sweet as Skyline, it's got more heat to it.
If your a republican presidential nominee, price hill chili is an obligatory campaign stop.
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
lol it was big news when Dick Cheney turned down the trying the chili when he visited there.
New Riegel Cafe -- Pork Ribs; not for everyone -- but for my family, they are worth an occasional 200 mile road trip. (They also have a Jamie Farr recommendation).
when i lived in my hometown of tiffin, my family use to go to new riegel a half dozen times a year. very good ribs.
I have been trying like forever to remember the name of that place (I couldn't remember the name of the town which is why it was so hard to remember) way back in the day they had a n old fashioned bowling machine where you used a puck for the bowling ball...............great place!

The Harmar Tavern in Marietta - Best Fried Bologna sandwich going. Great atmosphere, too
There is a place in Youngstown that he supposedly went to called The Royal Oaks. It was after an annual cooking event that has had some other Food Network celebrities partake. It's in a seady part of town (but then again, what part of Youngstown isn't seady these days) but it does have some really great food with some unique wing sauces, including a hot raspberry sauce which is rather tasty. Rumor had it that he said he wants to come back and do an episode there, but that was nearly 2 years ago...at this point I doubt it will happen...but it'd still be cool if it did.
If you haven't ever been to Maid-Rite in Greenville, OH then you need to get in a car and drive there now. It is the exact definition of a Diner, Drive-in & Dive... it is also delicious.
Just beware the one in Piqua. Wish it was as good as Greenville.
Want a dive stop by Johnny's tavern on trabue rd in Columbus they only sell 3 sandwiches but they have better burgers than Thurman's IMHO.
Haven't been there in years but a great place.
For great ribs try the New Riegel Cafe in New Riegel Ohio...awesome. Served on top of the fries so the grease and sauce soak into them. Yum
Bob Evans farm in Gallia County.
I'm surprised this one hasn't been posted till now. Growing up in Hamden, we would make a trip either there or to the Iron Skillet truck stop off 35 for lunch every Sunday, after church, for many years.

Inky's for Italian. The pizza is soooo good.
House of Eats inside The Bier Stube. The guys menu is nuts and everything is made in house.
Glass City Cafe (if it's still open, been a while) for breakfast. They did Bluegrass Breakfast once a month which was awesome. Delicious food and the sweet sounds of Bluegrass being played by a live band ... nothing wrong with that.

The Echo in Hyde Park. Urban Meyer's been spotted there while in Cincy visiting his family. If you go on weekends, get there early or you'll be waiting awhile.
Another great spot is Quatman's Cafe in Norwood. Greasy cheeseburgers and fries on paper plates and Hudy Delight on draft. Win-win.
Terry's Turf Club east of Cincinnati (East End/Mount Washington). Totally campy diner decor, good beer selection, very very good hamburgers. In a shady neighborhood.

Great call on TTC! Every burger fan should experience Terry's at least once in their life. In addition to the outdoor signage, the interior is lit entirely by neon lights. Good times indeed.
Pleasant Ridge Chili.................mmmmmmm gravy cheese fries!
"Because I couldn't go for 3"
Hard to beat Symon's B-Spot happy hours (3-5pm daily, IIRC): all burgers $5, brats and fried bologna $2, and rosemary fries $1. Drink deals, too. Yum!
On E.4th St., just over from The Q, the Greenhouse Tavern has some crazy good wings, unlike any you've had elsewhere. They are confited in duck fat and seasoned with roasted garlic, jalapenos and lime juice. Fat renders out leaving the most tender, flavorful, crispy goodness. Chef: Jonathan Sawyer.
Barberton chicken! It doesn't matter which place it's from, Belgrade Gardens, Milich's, or Whitehouse, it's all wonderfully greasy fried chicken that makes you salivate!
The Ribber is very good. Always have liked Pig Irons on High Street in Columbus.
best burger - Thurman cafe in columbus
best pizza - Coccia House in wooster
best mexican - Mendoza's in port clinton
If you're near Upper Sandusky there's a small town west off CH 53 (about 7-8 miles) called the Blue Room ... amazing pizza.
And if you're near Bucyrus Baker's Pizza is equally amazing. Best Buffalo Chicken pizza around I've had in a very long time.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Panini's Bar and Grill. Sports staple in Cleveland. Grilled Panini with fries and cole slaw on the sandwich (plus an egg, if you so desire.).
Probably cause they took the idea from Primanti Bros in Pittsburgh?
http://www.primantibros.com
In my hometown of Wooster (smack in the middle of Canton and Mansfield on route 30) is Coccia House pizza. Literally the best pizza you can get. It's just a small family run business but they ship their pizza all over the country. If you are ever in the area, do yourself a favor and go there.
Bills Donut Shop in Centerville deserves some love, IMO. The pumpkin donuts in the fall are worth the drive.
Friends have highly recommended Bills.
Have to give a shout for Crabill's Hamburger's in Urbana. Absolutely nothing in common with sliders other than size. Mustard makes them special as well as the grease they are fried in. Grab a bag of Mumford's chips with them.
Crabill's must be experienced to be believed. Bellying up to the 8 person counter and watching the fry cook drop wads of ground beef into a four inch deep pool of grease, and then seeing them bob up to the top when finished...holy Christ what a meal. Order three to four of those puppies with cheese, mustard, and onion with a bag o' Mumford's (which are the best chips in the state; and you can get them down the road at their hq in five pound boxes) and a Stewart's root beer...you're in heaven.
They literally double-bag carry-out orders because the bags become so inundated with grease that they tear.
Mumford's also come in BBQ flavor now. Salty goodness.
Don't forget about Larosa's. Cincinnati.
I like to believe that my best hits border on felonious assault.
JACK TATUM
too many locations and widespread to be a DDD.
It's good, not great pizza. Too bad they got rid of the ciabatta sandwiches.
35 hours to Pasadena! Go Bucks!
Gents and ladies I must say that Marion's piazza in Dayton is the best I have ever had.
There is a great following for it, but many do not like it. I ask you to try it out...sausage and pepperoni is the best.
i once paid $200 to ship it to my house...that's how good it is
Ray ray's hogpit in Clintonville, a few blocks north of OSU. Best ribs I've ever had since the now-defunct Ike's bbq that i grew up with in Cincinnati. For the last 15 plus years, I've been searching high and low for a bbq joint that can compare to Ike's. Last year i finally found Ray ray's during a google search and I make the trek from Hilliard to high st. at least once a month.
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
Ray Ray's ribs are good, but their grass-fed brisket on Sundays is absolutely rapturous. Not to mention the Dogfish Head sauce that it comes with.
My dad makes better ribs than Ray Ray's: 48 hour soak in apple cider vinegar, dry rubbed and smoked four around 4 hours at ~250 over applewood chunks and charcoal, then lightly basted with a tomato-mustard sauce and finished on the grill. As he says, it'll make grown ladies weep and grown men fight.
I just drooled.....details please, babyback ribs, Canadian homone free pork? Nothing else in the apple cider vinegar for the marinade? What's in the rub? The tomato-mustard sauce sounds brilliant - how does he make that? I promise to keep the recipe a secret.....
Haha he uses baby backs for the ribs, I'd imagine that if you had the cash to spring for Heritage pork, you wouldn't be disappointed--but that stuff is expensive.
Yeah, the marinade's merely apple cider vinegar, though I honestly don't know his recipes for the rub or sauce, but the method described will yield tasty results, besides it's kinda fun that you get to make the recipe your own. I know for a fact that my dad came across a similar recipe and tweaked it to his liking. Hell, I made a pretty good BBQ sauce by deglazing a pan that I cooked some hamburgers in with beer and adding garlic, stadium mustard, and ketchup, then reducing till thick.
You are right sir (said in my best Ed McMahon response to Johnny Carson voice) - the method in how you cook something is really what is important. I like the sauce you made on the fly - would work well on an episode of "Chopped"! Great idea on the stadium mustard as a base for the sauce.
I really like a good mustard based sauce, but finding a good one that isn't overly sweet is difficult. In SEC country (think Maurice's in Columbia), they just use French's mustard and lots of honey or brown sugar. I like that about as much as Urban getting his punter swiped at the last minute from some ego-maniacal pledge pin spitting coach who already has 4 punters.
How about the Hot Dog Shop in Warren, Oh. It's been in business since the 50's and was even featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on the Food Network. ( I'm not sure of the name, but your Topic sounded close enough to me....lol.) Girard, Oh has Jib Jab which is a spin off that is owned by a cousin. Same food, except the fries, different name.
My fiance is from Canfield and I must say they have some of the best italian food and pizza I have ever had. Best pizza in the Youngstown area has to be Manlio's Pizza right off of 224, probably the best pizza I have ever had. MY other favorite place to go to dinner in the Youngstown area has to be a place called Johnny's on Market St. Best Italian/gnocci I have ever had. Just to eat at these places is enough for me to want to make the 3 hour trip from Columbus.
Being Italian and growing up in that area which has a huge Italian population, I can say they have the BEST Italian food in the country, especially their pizza. I'm going to have to try Manlio's. Never heard of it. I used to love the Brier Hill pizza at Avalon Garden, which was a small bar/restaurant dive. The owner just up and disappeared about 2 yrs ago. Little Chicago style? Who knows, but I really miss that place.
Manlio's is by far my favorite pizza. You can eat in but there are only a few tables so the space is limited. My fiances family loves the Brier Hill pizza but im not a big fan and just like to stick with a large pepperoni from Manlio's!
Remo's Hotdog Shop - Gallipolis, OH; IMO Top 5 Hotdogs ANYWHERE! Their motto "12 inches a day keeps the doctor away"
Schmuckers Restaurant - Toledo, OH: Great value, BEST homemade pie around. Name your favorite pie, they have it and probably do it better.
Best wings and wedding soup in the state....The Crows Nest in Ashtabula, Ohio. I am sure UFM has dined there on numersous occasions!
Big Daddy
We now live in Ashtabula in the summer. Urban still eats there when he is in town. As a matter of fact, one of his best high school buddies owns it
Fitzy's Diner on Schrock Road in Columbus. A damn fine greasy spoon that serves breakfast 24-7. Great to hit after the bars close.

Just went to Al "bubba" bakers BBQ last weekend and the pulled pork dinner there was one of the best I have ever had. I highly recommend it if you are out near Avon OH
This thread made me hungry. Thanks guys.-_-
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
Here's a few of my favorite Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives in Columbus:
If you're in Columbus and you love BBQ, you have to try Ray Ray's Hogpit in Clintonville. The sides aren't the best but the meats are to die for and sauces are scrumdilly'umtious! MY staple is the ribs smothered in a combination of sweet bbq and carolina vinegar. Much to my dismay they are only open fri, sat, sun.
"Get him a body bag, Yeah!"
Giovanni's but ony the original in Coal Grove, Ohio. The Freezette there used to have the best footlong hotdogs in the world, but they sold out and the new owners do not make the same sauce so it was a dissapointment when I tried one last time I was home.
wow, lots of great plugs here, been to many...surprised to see mendozas from pc.
only got stinken drunk at flat iron-cleveland-a great st patty's day joint
also a melt in indepence-southeast of 77/480 interchange
knucklehead
Not sure if it has been mentioned, but Mama Santa's in Cleveland's Little Italy is absolutely fantastic. Like many other places mentioned, the decor hasn't been updated since about 1965, but the pizza is fabulous. And the neighborhood is a really cool area.
And if you are ever driving through Wadsworth (you won't be, but whatever) be sure to hit up Marie's Pizza. Not as good as I remember it when I was a little kid, but still very good eats.
Does anyone know what happened to Migg's in Columbus? It was a little hole-in-the-wall off of 5th avenue. It had really awesome burgers that were the size of your head.
I hadn't eaten there in years, but when I was back in town a while back a friend told me he thought something happened to the owner and whoever inherited it closed it and sold the property.
Unfortunately most of the really unique places in my home town are all gone. We used to have a little diner in the back of the local drug store that had amazing burgers and shakes before they closed it down. If anyone is ever down visiting the Hocking Hills I highly recommend making a stop at the Pizza Crossing in Logan. Good pizza and subs and the bread sticks are just absolutely amazing.
And if you're looking for desert, swing by Penny's Pastries. Glazed diabetes at its finest.

If one hot summer day while driving through western ohio, you happen to come upon a small town called New Carlisle, do yourself a favor and stop at wotadog and order a footlong coney dog with cheese and onions and make sure to get a rootbeer in a frosted mug. It will change your life. I grew up in New Carlisle and during the summer whenever I visit my parents it is mandatory that I eat there. I've never had a coney dog come close to being as good as those dogs and the rootbeer is second to none.
