Didn't look far but with all the recruiting topics, didn't think a SuperBowl food post has been made!

I am typically the guy that bring pigs in the blanket to the SuperBowl party! Gotta bring something that is filling and has some type of meat in it (wings, nachos). Appetizers should be from the host and vegetables should be for toppins only! If anything, put some stuffing in those peppers or jalapenos!

I like to switch things up a bit but usually stick to the PiB because I know it will at least meet my needs for something good to eat. Sometimes I struggle with trying to please the crowd and just bringing what I want! Although my wings can be a bit too hot for some so I don't bring them.

What is your favorite thing to bring and what item would you like to try to bring? Something crazy or different, tell us because I might have to NOT bring the PiB.

I make a very mean bean dip.  It has chipotle chilis in adabo sauce, corona, and tequila cooked in.  It is awesome and a crowd pleaser.  The women folk don't usually like it, but the guys do.

Yes indeed.  It's nearly impossible not to make a meal out of them, but then you piss everyone else off because you just took half the inventory.

Chile.  I make a nice thick version that you can scoop up with tortilla chips, though I have to dial down the heat for general public consumption.  No spoons needed. Finger food rules SB Sunday.

Edit:  No beans in my chile.

Go to a family owned butcher and get brats of just about every kind. Boil them in a dark beer/water combo. Match those up with buns from the local bakery. Serve them up with sauerkraut and all kinds of toppings.  Make some mean nachos with chips covered with chili, topped with copius amounts of homemade queso, shredded lettuce, diced onions, jalapenos, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese and sour cream. Guacamole on the side.  If I am hosting I usually have a 1/4 to 1/2 keg.

Chili.  Every time.  Spicy, hearty, and isntead of using all ground beef, I use cubed T-bone steak and cubed pork loin.

Ah, my bad haha. i sometimes will wrap shrimp in bacon and between the bacon and shrimp i put pepper jack cheese. nice little snack for people.

I made a few of these in my smoker a few months back and they were unreal! Def on heart attack watch after consumption but so damn good! I like to bring shrimp cocktail but it can be pricey. Anything from the smoker is always a hit but takes a lot of work

Cop out! Sorry Hail, appreciate your comments on here but that is the exact reason for this post! Can't bring bought stuff unless you bring something else. Or if you are bringing beer.

Plus I think that commercial is dumb! You know someone is going to want some of your grillers, so a wife of somebody will offer to cut them up into slices so it becomes a platter. In a party where alcohol is involved, gonna have to share those!

I make bratwurst.  Nothing too crazy, but I simmer them in beer for 45 minutes with green peppers and onions, and if possible, seer them quick on a grill.  If you ever do this, make sure you stick the brats before you serve them... the hot beer can squirt out with the first bite and scald.

a couple hundred buffalo wild wings, tons of beer, and at minimum 10 50 inch tv's streaming all over the house.  we throw a big time party.

It depends on the Super Bowl party, but I'm the guy who likes to bring something chocolatey for dessert. Choc. chip cookies, pudding dessert, brownies, etc.

I also like to make chili. My wife and kids won't eat chili, though, as they hate beans.  :(

actually some believe beans is the crime in chili. Some think it should be only meat. God I hate the people who think chili should be just veggies. Horrible!

I am pro beans! Although I tend to go for Black beans over Kidney. A bit healthier.

I will have a little of what everyone else is bringing but for me there is nothing better than pulled pork. After a couple of hours of cooking, a little bit of bbq sauce with some heat to it, piled on a bun. Done and done.

my wife makes a pulled buffalo chicken in her crock pot. Damn good stuff!

You definitely get a plus one for being the first to talk about pulled meats! Anything pulled, pork, beef or chicken with either buffalo sauce, barbeque or hot is a bigtime party move.

Might have to veto the wife with the biscuit ham sandwiches for some pulled pork. Very good call.

in my best Beavis and Butthead voices..........."he said pulled meats".....hehehehehehehehe............Back to the subject.....Im the guy who makes tortilla chips and homemade salsa.....................mango salsa, peach salsa, orange salsa, pineapple salsa.......in mild, medium, and wicked hot flavors...or if you dont like fruit flavors (fruit flavors for some reason seem to go very well with the the garlic chips) but if you want a more traditional sort of salsa how about sun dried tomatos  in stead of regular tomatos....................

Battles are sometimes won by generals; wars are nearly always won by sergeants and privates. Football is no different, the guys down in the trenches win the games, not the coach.

I typically roast my tomatoes (or tomatillos, if I'm doing a salsa verde), onion, and jalapeño under the broiler 'till the skin blisters and splits, then pulse those in a blender with about 3-5 cloves of fresh garlic, fresh cilantro (sprig and all), key lime juice, and tequila. Once it's well combined, I add fresh ground garlic salt (sea salt, dried garlic, dried onion, and parsley) to taste. It's pretty tasty stuff.

Cream Cheese\Budding Beef\Vlasic Pickles. Roll the whole pickle in cream cheese, wrap in a few pieces of budding beef, slice pickles. Sounds simple, they last hardly through the first quarter.

Its a pre packaged brand of deli meat. Sliced incredibly thin. Budding is the brand name so there's chicken\turkey\beef\etc. Any deli meat will work really, but the packages are .99 per so its cost efficient for an apetizer.

Dude.  Pigs in a blanket?  Really.  Why don't you just bring some vienna sausages and a bag of flour.  I say at least put a little effort into it and bring wings or chili.   Seriously,  I like to bring something identified with the city the sporitng event is being held in.  This year s imply dish would be muffeleta sandwiches.  Make a few, slice 'em up and you're good to go.

good call. Hey, at least the PiB is decent. Beats a cheese plate or veggie tray! but very true that I need to increase my game and go bigger.

NOLA tradition we tend to have lately has been the king cake.

I think I am going for the pulled pork or have the wife do the buffalo pulled chicken I mentioned above. Would be a waste to do something too big. We don't have huge parties in my group. Last one was the 2006 NCG. Hence why we keep it on the down low from now on. It was the worst party in my life!

Ray Rays Hog Pit had great Super Bowl specials last year and the food is the most phenominal thing you will ever eat. Last year I took 2 lbs of Briscut, 2lbs of Pulled Pork and some o his smoked wings to the party I went to. Food was gone by end of first quarter and I was voted "most important person to invite this year". Oh, and don't forget the greens and sauces.

Bacon wrapped water chesnuts in bourbon bbq sawce.  Not too heavy, with bacon and bbq with a crunch... cant go wrong.

Nothing like dancing on the field in 02...

Amen to anything wrapped in bacon.  Started making my own bacon and I have to say my first batch was not the best. I am hooked on Triple D and use some of their recipies. My last batch was the best; thick cut with pepper corns and maple smoked.

Never had them before, but I've always wanted to make Rippers, so on Sunday I plan on busting out the deep fryer and making some deep-fried hot dogs.  Thinking about whipping up an IPA-mustard to go along with them, too.

Probably going to do some pigs in a blanket, and try to make some cheddar-and-bacon-filled hash brown balls.  I tried them a couple years back, but it didn't reallly come out well (tried shredding the potatoes fresh, and didin't have a ricer to dry them out); this year I'm going to do 'em with frozen hash browns, should solve the problem.

I like the idea of catering to the city hosting. Or the teams home cities. Make some crab cakes and whatever food San Fran is famous for... idk, Rice-A-Roni?

If I had the means, I'd be busting out a Hangtown Fry Sandwich: make the original bacon and oyser omelette, add some aged Gruyere, slap it 'twixt two slices of sourdough (Boudin from SF is one i remember fondly), and perhaps griddle in a pannini press and you're well in your way to indulgence heart surgery heaven.  Perhaps mini open-faced appetizers of scrambled egg perched atop a sourdough baguette, crowned with bacon and oyster, drizzled with the shellfish's liquor?

Legend has it that, during the California Gold Rush (which itself lends its name to the San Francisco 49'ers) a prospector struck it rich.  Upon his return to the camp village (Hangtown), he asked the cook at the hotel for something utilizing the most expensive items he could muster: the chef made an omelette (because the eggs had to be delicately shipped in) of oysters (shipped fresh from the bay via train) and bacon (packed in the East and shipped west to California).  It was popularized in San Francisco.  

Another speciality is Joe's Special, a famous San Fran dish thought to have originated in the Jazz clubs of yore.  The musicians, playing late through the night, wanted breakfast foods with more substance; ironically, this is the same scenario that provided for the Genesis of Harlem's famous dish, Chicken and Waffles.  The story goes that a gent asked a cook for a spinach omlette, but wanted it made more substantial; the cook improvised by adding ground beef to the dish and a legend was born.  Personally, I make it by browning the beef (and sometimes throwing in some 'shrooms for good measure), tossing in a few cloves of minced garlic and some chopped onion, sauteeing the spinach until just wilted, and then adding scrambled eggs to the mix, stirring constantly.  Once the eggs have just set, you're golden, finish with freshly grated Parmesean and serve with toast.   I don't know how that would be easily leveraged into a gameday appetizer...perhaps served over potato chips for a seriously bastardized version of nachos?  Could be epic.

If you're looking to gussy up the standard "pig in a blanket" routine, I'd suggest checking out this link. Hell, even the suggested sausage/cheese combo of Andouille and Gruyere fits the New Orleans location perfectly!  I've made these with bratwurst and Cermont sharp cheddar and they're delicious. 

Pro tip: don't use the "Southern Style" Grands like the recipe suggests; they have sugar added. Any other Grands biscuit should do well (flaky would be great, but might have difficulty rolling).

Here's my problem with that thing, it's not easily edible. You can't pick it up and put it in your mouth. There are no slices you can eat. You just see these guys cramming fists full in their mouths and it's not practical and you aren't getting the full effect. They should have made lots of small individual ones
