I'm looking to be admitted for the 2013 fall semester as an undergraduate student. I completed my application a while ago (late November), but they didn't receive my high school transcripts until about the 3rd or 4th of January, so its been about three weeks. I've heard that they could be getting back to me in as little as 4 weeks from the the point I completed my application. My question is, when should I expect to hear back from them, realistically? I'm a California student, first-generation, special circumstances, all that jazz. I'm really desperate to get in and fulfill my dreams to be a Buckeye! I can hardly stand the wait.

Wouldn't you get free tuition if you stayed in California and went to a state college? You don't really believe that all those people who fill the shoe on Saturday and post on these boards are alumni do you? You already are a Buckeye, now go get your free education from your bankrupt state.
No thanks. My entire life has been leading up to this and I've put in the effort for years to be a Buckeye. Its the only college I applied to. If I'm not accepted, I'll go to a junior college for a year or two before trying again.

Sorry, I should have googled before I posted. I see that California residents do have to pay some tuition at the state schools but it is still a good deal. I hope you get accepted and have a great experience in college. Priority #1 - DON'T MISS THE DATE TO ORDER YOUR FB TICKETS!
I wouldn't have known regardless, haha. I never looked into any schools in any states other then The Ohio State University.

If not admitted in time, through no fault of your own, I would go to a branch campus and get started on your degree. Easier to "transfer" to main campus from one of those than any other school. FWIW, many who apply to Ohio State these days are made to start at a branch campus due to tougher admission standards than the past.
I started at the Mansfield branch basically because it was cheaper and I could live with my parents, who live like 10-15 minutes away. The Mansfield branch does have some pretty nice housing, called Molyet Village, if you decide to go the branch route. There's not much to do in Mansfield, but you are only just over an hour from Columbus and Cleveland. If I weren't from the Mansfield area, I'd have started at main.
Class of 2010.
Born in Galion, high school in Crestline. Class of 1990. My post below details my derailment and regrets not doing the exact same thing. OSU @ Mansfield to Columbus.
@JakeBuckeye, I totally agree that trying to go to a branch is probably your best bet. The Newark campus is close enough that you could live in the Columbus area and commute there if you wish.
Do it, go to the extra cost and trouble to be a Buckeye.
I was planning on going to Ohio State but once Desert Storm kicked off in the early 90's I felt the need to run off and save the world. Although my time in the military worked out for me, one of life's great regrets is not going to tOSU. I'm 40 n ow and it is still a dreamn of mine I just don't think it is in the cards for me.
WTF?
Well, tuition to Cal schools is free for California residents...but that's kinda misleading. Their 'fees' are roughly equivalent to tuition for universities in other states (at least in state). Fees at OSU are really just fees. Fees in Cal are tuition. I went to UCDavis for my PhD.
But I think it'd be great to have more Californians at OSU. It provides more diversity for OSU and helps California from just a little part of their bankruptcy. And it will be great to discover the world outside California. The false impressions of the Midwest were astonishing during my time out there.
Welcome to the university family! It takes time for the university to process all the paperwork so mark sure you continue to hound them and follow up regularly. Unfortunately Mickey Mariotti only trains the football team to be fast.
Hey, I'm from Georgia and it took me about 6 weeks to hear back about my acceptance. Luckily OSU is really looking to expand this year and bring in out of state students so that should help your chances if you feel like you're borderline. Best of luck to you man hope to see you on campus with me in August!

What are you majoring in?? I'm majoring in Industrial Engineering (minor-Economics) #ClassOf2017
I speak for all engineers, ISE is imaginary/fake engineering! :)
Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012
I believe weve already been over this! ;)
ISE '96. Yea, I got that a bunch too as an undergrad, but it's also:
I have

Engineer
That's all I'm gonna say, as I don't want to start a geek war. They get ugly. :)
Anyway, to the OP: As an alumnus, I would welcome you to Ohio State regardless of socioeconomic background. I don't have an answer as to the time frame, but wish you the best of luck. Go Bucks.
I'm an Ohio kid born and raised, so I thankfully had no choice but to be a buckeye. Earned undergrad and grad degrees from TOSU, but I have to ask, what makes a California kid want to be a buckeye so bad? I mean, I am just interested in your story. I love to hear what makes out of staters love "my" university so much.
Well, from what I can remember, it started when I was enamored as a young lad at the talents of one Maurice Clarrett on the field and in my NCAA football video game. From there, it was an obsession with the Ohio State football program. Every school I've gone to since then (three seperate schools) my known personality trait around other students has been my crazed and overly-passionate love for Ohio State. Naturally, as I grew older, specifically around the 6th grade, I started to look at Ohio State as more than just a football team but as a destination for me one day as a school. Since then, every ounce of work/effort I've put in in and out of the classroom was put in in order to attend The Ohio State University. I was lucky (or not so lucky, heh) enough to attend the 2007 BCS National Championship game against Florida with my dad, a trip that really just set all of my feelings for Ohio State in stone, even though we were absolutely destroyed in that game. One of my fondest memories in my entire lifetime is being at that game when Teddy Ginn returned the opening kick-off for a touchdown. I remember jumping up and down as a little 6th grader, excited out of my mind, as a recent alumnus in front of me turned around and gave me the greatest high five I've ever been apart of. A complete stranger. I was really a part of a family at that point, and there was no turning back. From that point I put in the work, as did my dad, to send me off to Columbus. My dreams really became my dad's dreams and I saw him put in an insane amount of work to fulfill my passions and desires, which with the way my dad was, were his passions and desires. Unfortunately, my dad passed after my sophomore year in high school. As much as I wanted and needed an acceptence letter before my dad's death, I need one even more now in order to fulfill my dreams and what he worked his ass off for for years.
That's my story! Sorry if I over-elaborated, but I still could say so much more about how bad I want Ohio State.
P.S. I was also in attendance during the thrashing we took against USC in 2008. Maybe I'm bad luck!

Thanks for the story. Either way, keep up the hard work and it will all pay off.
loved this, and again, good luck.
I want you to be a fellow alumn even more now...
I really have no clue as to when you'll her from OSU. My girlfriend is from Texas and when she put in her application she heard back from OSU in 4 weeks. I put mine in early during senior year and heard back from OSU in 4-6 weeks. For how large OSU is they do respond extremely quickly in regards to application status and acceptance. Anyway, good luck and here's to having you on campus come Fall 2013.
I'm pretty sure the later you submit the application the longer it takes for them to get back to you. I remember I submitted all of my stuff (transcripts/test scores included) super early and I got accepted within a week (maybe 2 weeks, I can't remember), but some of my friends that waited until later took much longer to hear back from them. I would also guess that being out of state would also make it take longer.
Just try to be patient, and be sure to check the application status page on buckeyelink a lot because I'm pretty sure that the decision is posted there a few days before you actually get the letter. When they say "as little as 4 weeks", they usually adhere to their word, so I'd expect to hear from them next week or the week after that.
Good luck!
I submitted my application in late August and didn't hear back until mid november (out of state). So I'd be patient with it. You'll hear back soon! Good luck! #ClassOf2017
I remember when I applied for undergrad admission about four years ago Ohio State was the last of the schools that I applied to that got back to me. I applied pretty late compared to most people though, and like somebody else said, the later you apply the longer they will probably take to get back to you. I would just go by the "no news is good news" mantra and say that as long as they have not sent a rejection letter there is no need to worry. Also if you've truely put in the effort then I'm sure you will get in with no problems.
I got accepted to Ohio State, but ended up going to the University of Toledo because the scholarship they offered was SO MUCH better than what I was offered at Ohio State. On a high note, I just recieved my acceptance letter from the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at THE Ohio State University, so maybe I'll see you on campus next year!
Best of luck to you!
I am reading between the lines a bit, but are you worried about grades? They'll get back to you (it's their job after all).
If your grades keep you out initially, just knock it out a semester in JUCO and you'll be in no problem. I can tell by the way that you write that you're smart enough to string together a bunch of As if you want to. If you go JUCO, I recomend moving to Ohio and attending Columbus State. This way you'll be eligble for instate tution sooner (which will save you $$$$$$$$$$$$). If by chance you're a veteran, you don't have to worry about waiting to get instate- you'll get it instantly.
Love the enthusiasm and loyalty of these young students. Feeling strong about the future.

Citrus has it right with the Jr college idea. I am from Southern California and went to community college for two years and every single class I took counted toward my degree, let alone transferred. The nice thing is that you can transfer easily after one year.
My brother is in the exact same boat as you right now waiting to hear back from them. Best of luck to you!

What a worthless thread. 11W is not your personal advisor. Even if it were, I'd tell you to go to a better school.
Ispeak - you must be gone by now...but you can still at least read this, do you ever stop what you're doing, look in the mirror & say, 'look at me, I'm pathetic, I'm a troll on a blog' ?? I'm fascinated by people who are that dedicated to being digital dickheads...

Hey Jake, where in Cali do you live? It may be too late for is year, but if you get accepted, look for the local OSU Alumni club from the area you live and they often have scholarships available for students going to OSU from California. They are often fairly small but they pay for books or some food.

FWIW, it is A LOT easier to transfer into OSU. When I transfered in the only requirement was a cumulative GPA of 2.0. For incoming freshmen it was a 3.6 GPA and like a 28 on the ACT, I think. Not really sure, that was back in 2008.
Help is on the way.
If you dont mind me asking whats your academic standing? (ie ACT/GPA) Being from Cali if you got 26+ on ur ACT im almost positive youd be a shoe in. OSU loves getting kids from outta state.
I hope you get in, I can tell you want this badly. Good luck and I hope you are a future fellow alum.
