Don't know if this was posted before anywhere, but CNN looks like it is dropping si.com in favor of bleacherreport.com. Clicking the link to 'SPORTS' on the cnn.com page reveals this info. Wonder what kind of $$ were in the transaction to make this happen.
I'll still go to si.com for college football news. I do like Mandel.

Wow. CNN is dropping SI for Bleacher Report? Why in the Hell would they do that?
It's just a matter of branding. Time Warner still owns CNN and SI. It added Bleacher Report last year because it thought it could be more easily blended with the Turner Broadcasting's existing online presence. The bottom line is that content shouldn't change much.
Yikes.

Man, that is a crap move by CNN, IMO. I can't stand BR.
That's like replacing Macy's with K-Mart.
Bleacherreport really I go there for a laugh not news. Ugh CNN you shame me
Never went to CNN for sports info anyways
Time Warner owns Time Inc. and Turner Broadcasting but the two operate as separate entities. In fact, Turner (who owns CNN) views SI as a competitor and since SI left their portfolio a year ago and Bleacher has since entered, it is even more of a competitive thing. People don't know but CNN provided about 48% of the SI traffic. Even with that Bleacher still had about 4 million more unique visitors per month as compared to SI and makes more money. Now Bleacher's value will increase even more as they get the CNN push, TV push from Turner's linear properties, and a lift to product quality due to Turners editorial capabilities and video and talent assets. Quite frankly it's a no-brainier for Turner to make this move, especially since SI is a direct competitor.
All this makes sense, but Alex who do you respect more SI or bleacherreport? the answer is easy SI.
Any hack that can throw two complete sentences together can write for bleacher.
that is currently true, but if you attach CNN to them, and give them more money, they will have the ability to sharpen it up and make it better by hiring more people and getting rid of hacks that don't know anything.
this is kind of a move from print to digital- as everything is going that way. bleacher report's ipad app is legit, i would rather read it than SI's magazine on my ipad anyday. I'm not into spending 45 mins sifting through a bunch of crap to find something i want to skim when i can look at all the same info in realtime in 5 mins on an app.
So when does Bleacher Report's first swimsuit issue come out?
The swimsuit issue will probably be all amateur content. Which is fine in this case.
