A few months back a Forum Topic of 'Who's your favorite band' was posted and received well over 100 responses. It seemed to me that the ladies of the music world didn't get a Whole Lotta Love. So, I thought I'd give them some dues.
Who's your favorite all-time female band/musical artist?
I'll go for Janis Joplin, with Bonnie Raitt a close second.

Michael Jackson
Fan of bacon since 1981
I was actually waiting for that and for Boy George.
"It's just another case of there you are". ~ Doc (1918-2012)
Continuing.....Elton John
I would have to go with Queen Freddy:
“Right now, Michigan is not at the pinnacle of college football, and that’s all Urban Meyer cares about...He’s been there and knows what it takes to get there.”
Florence + the Machine. If you have the chance to catch one of her shows live, do it. Her voice is incredible and it is just as good as the CD if not better.
Great voice for sure-- here is Florence joining the Stones in London for Gimme Shelter; She comes in at 1:25
Allison Krauss
Shirley Manson
Janice Joplin
Grace Slick
Amy Lee

Evanescence is about as bad as Nickleback, IMO. Makes my ears bleed.
Fan of bacon since 1981
Good for you

I can't say I listen to any female artists, but if I had to pick one... Natalie Imbruglia. Growing up I had the biggest crush on her lol.
+1
While she is one of the (very) few that can get away with short hair, she still looks better with longer mane.
Me too!
How Firm Thy Friendship....
Bonnie Rait-heck with one of the best female artists ever, she's one of the all time musical greats.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
Ann Wilson/Heart, and more recently, Joss Stone. Speaking of Whole Lotta Love, Joss did an amazing rendition of it at some awards show a few years ago. Didn't know much about her before that, but I was very impressed with her handling of a classic like that.
Regina Spektor
I dig your style, bro.
I'm mainly a classic rock and roll guy but if you rock....you rock, so my list will include some obvious choices. However, there's something about some classic early 1900's ladies that makes an evening cooking dinner with the wife all the more enjoyable.
In no particular order:
Mazzy Star
Heart
Fleetwood Mac
Blondie
Janice Joplin
Joan Jett
Sheryl Crow
Coralie Clement
Bic Runga
Ruth Etting
Edith Piaf
Billie Holiday
Ella Fitzgerald
Alberta Hunter
Eartha Kitt
Doris Day
* I'd be remiss if I didn't put this caviot stating I don't exactly cruise around jamming to Eartha Kitt, but nothing really sets the tone for a nice evening with your better half like some classic 20's music.
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
Annette Hanshaw is another very good jazz age singer.
The XX
The XX came up on my Pandora one day. Admittedly, I skipped it. Good stuff?
I'm a big fan of their self-titled debut album. I actually have a copy of it on vinyl. Definitely worth a listen if you have the time.
Okay. I'll take the recommendation. Thanks.
Great debut album; very good follow-up that just came out a couple months ago.
Regina Spektor or Feist. I feel like I lost man points for responding to this.....haha Still great music tho!
you've gained man points in my eyes haha
Great minds!
I am with you guys on Bonnie Raitt.
Some not yet mentioned that I like: Debbie Harry, Sinead O'Connor, Aimee Mann
I always liked Fiona Apple's voice. Raw and sexy.
She can not possibly be wearing a bra.
lol not a chance! Let 'em hang!
Remember that in the end you will be judged not by what you believed, planned or dreamed; but, by what you did.
does she really need one?
I dont know karate but i do know crazy and i'm not afraid to use it.
&
I am NOT complaining!
Heart Ann Wilson takes a back seat to no one on voice
Pat Benetar What a voice and range
Blondie Sexy in her day and a great voice
Patsy Cline for the country folk
Joan Jett
Samantha Fox younger years. OK singer, great body
Sabrina cant sing for crap but check out her Boys,Boys Boys video from the 80`s WOW NIP SLIP DELUXE. I did not have time to attach the link for the video.
+1 for Pat Benatar. Can't believe I forgot her. Great voice and she rocked (and I choose to forget the Oooh-Oooh song).
Allison Krauss
Susan Tedeschi - saw her on tour last summer with her husband Derek Trucks (Tedeschi Trucks Band). Unfreakingbelievable. Listening to her live is a must.
+1000 on Susan Tedeschi
Carrie Underwood may be one of the hottest women on the planet! Oh yeah, she can sing too.
I despise country music but the things I would do to her would be punishable by death in most Middle Eastern countries.
Fan of bacon since 1981
lol 98% of this forum would be on Death Row w/ ya brother! lol Sweet Jesus!

Just contemplating the uses for those leather straps...
“Right now, Michigan is not at the pinnacle of college football, and that’s all Urban Meyer cares about...He’s been there and knows what it takes to get there.”
Excuse me. Umm I'll be right back
I like Amy Echo with theStart and I'm a huge fan of Esthero. Also a fan of Poe and Tori Amos and Ani Difranco. What can I say, I like my girls angry. And Hole back when Kurt was still alive, or when Billy Corgan was writing for Courtney Love.
-The Aristocrats!
Adele
Bette Midler
Carly Simon
Celine Dion
Chaka Khan
Cyndi Lauper
Donna Summer
Roberta Flack
SCOTTC.
Kathleen Hanna
Alison Krauss
Sarah Mclachlan in my humble opinion.
And we cannot forget Akrons Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders. One of OHIO`s finest
Good call on Chrissie Hynde. Kinda surprised Aretha Franklin hasn't been mentioned.
/and then I look below.
"It's just another case of there you are". ~ Doc (1918-2012)
OSU Buck, good call on Donna Summer.I don`t know how I could have forgot that one growing up in the 70`s
Ella Fitzgerald
Aretha Franklin
Linda Ronstadt
Whitney Houston
Patsy Kline
Oliva Newton-John
Donna Summer
Carly Simon
Diana Ross
Fansince1968, good call on Linda Ronstadt,Olivia, and Diana Ross
Thank you - I should have said Diana Ross and the Supremes
No Lita?
I was searching the list for Lita too, loved her back in the day.
Others I like -
Amy Lee
Kelly Clarkson (guilty pleasure, the music isn't great, but man can she sing)
Susannah Hoffs from the Bangles (although admittedly I just loved her eyes in that ridiculous "Walk Like and Egyptian" video)
Jeanette Napolitano (spell check that one, but she was the lead singer from Concrete Blonde)
I would play hide my buckeyes all day with Jessica Simpson!
"Because I couldn't go for 3"
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. Can do without the band. Grace is legit.
I'm shocked to see no one has mentioned halestorm. They're probably my favorite current band with a female front. I also agree with others on Janis Joplin, even though some of you are a little cloudy on how to spell her name.
Ah. Female. Well thats embarrasing.
Also surprised noone's mentioned Alabama Shakes, even though they're relatively new, and only have one album. I personally think they're OK, but I do like Hold On and You Ain't Alone.
Probably NSFW very suggestive.
only two..Pat Benetar and Martina McBride
Of Monsters and Men is my recent one.
Some of my ones from the past, A Fine Frenzy, Jewel and Holy sexy Faith Hill.
~Because we couldn't go for three~
Any mention of Faith Hill has to have Shania Twain in there too.
Go Go's
Billie Holiday.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
Always liked Mazzy Star (Hope Sandoval)
Arcade Fire (Regine Chassigne)
Blondie
Fleetwood Mac (stevie nicks in her prime!)
Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, Robin Sparkles........just kidding
Obviously depends on the mood I am in, but my list would include:
Mazzy Star
Natalie Merchant/10,000 Maniacs
Bjork/Sugarcubes (weird, I know)
Portishead (can be depressing in large quantities)
Veruca Salt
Ella Fitzgerald
Norah Jones (only the ones with the really soulful vocals like "Don't Know Why")
Susan Tedeschi (just recently discovered her and I am now a fan)
I am shocked there's been nary a mention of Dusty Springfield in this thread.
I had Dusty in my list originally and then took her out b/c I only like "Son of a Preacher Man" and I figured there needed to be more than just one song to make the list.
Well, I mean, aside from all of the other great songs ("You Don't Have to Say You Love Me," "Wishin' and Hopin'," "The Look of Love," and "I Only Want to Be With You," among others), she gives (in my opinion) the greatest female vocal performance of all time in "I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself."
I know that it's "cut yourself, life is pain" music but I liked Flyleaf when they first came out. Paramore was good, but got overexposed too quickly and the band dissolved. Not the best female singers of all time but worth giving a little love to.
"Because the rules won't let you go for three." - Woody Hayes
THE Ohio State University
Lacuna Coil or In This Moment
If Denard Robinson isn't careful with spooning all that food into his mouth, he's going to end up lookin' like Whoopi Goldberg
ZZ Top
Hadn't seen these mentioned so I'll throw in
Mariah Carey, girl has some pipes. Liked her early stuff.
Tina Turner
Dolly Parton
Pat Benetar, Stevie Nicks, Diana Ross, Carly Simon
Stevie Nicks
Feist
Beyonce. Next Question.
