With all the conference realignment stuff happening, if the SEC reached out to Ohio State what do you think would happen?
Also what bigten school are you most worried might jump ship?
It seems to me that in all of this there are a handful of teams that are untouchable and unmovable, unfortunately I think Texas may be one of them despite my feelings that they'd be an awesome needle-moving addition to the B1G

Should probably make clear, I'm interested in what you think Ohio State's interest level would be and what you think would happen with the B1G if Ohio state left
I don't think OSU would go anywhere else. Why would they want to go to the SEC? And as far as a B1G school wanting to jump ship, where would they go? The B1G is the most profitable conference in the NCAA.

You should have posted a pic of Grumpy Cat on that one.

I knew that posting the concept would get some negative reactions because we have such a visceral negative feeling toward the SEC but consider what it might mean. Joining the SEC would open up recruiting in the fertile southeast, Florida, and Texas. To the SEC it would be adding a school that borders its current footprint so it's not a crazy stretch.
Considering money, do you really think the bigten's tv money deal is as lucrative WITHOUT Ohio state? And don't you think the SEC's would be more lucrative by adding the state of Ohio?
Dont get me wrong, I think Ohio State would reject an invite, because like I said, some schools are too rooted in their conference to move but I think it deserves a little more consideration than to just say "no"
In my opinion it wouldn't make very much sense geographically, which i suppose is moot seeing that Boise State is in the Big East. I also wouldn't see a reason to move to conference that is much harder to get to a NC while losing your rivalry game.

The thought of a scarlet and grey clad fan yelling SEC..SEC..makes me want to shoot myself. (Kids don't try this at home..)
Its a good thought.. Many times when my mind is wandering and I should be working I think "Given the state of B1G football, what would Ohio State and ichigan do if they were both offered a chance to go to the SEC" (FYI... even in my mind I don't say the letter M"
I dont think they would leave the B1G for any reason but it definitly would be interesting.
but you said mind and many.... O.o

The thoughts in my mind are in quotes. Geeze man, follow along, I nearly speak English.
i cannot resisit an oppurtunity to tease. I am sorry if this offended you.
Also this may happen again.

You can't take OSU with out Michigan, we're a pair. If you had to take away a school take Purdue. Their sports do little to contribute to the Big Ten image... Now lets be honest this won't happen.
Ohio State's band SLAUGHTERED Michigan's band. If this were a football game, it would have been Florida State vs. Savannah State. - SB Nation following OSU vs. UM 2012
OSU fans would be flattered, but Buckeyes are the BIG fish in the BIG pond and pulling down BIG bucks from BIG TV. Buckeyes would not jump because of the money issue, and that's what it is all about. OSU would not be a BIG fish anymore if they jumped, just check their bowl record against SEC teams .... they have one win in nine attempts. And currently the Buckeyes pay three yearly weaklings to come to Columbus to get the Scarlet & Gray a cheap win in games that fans on both sides hate watching. Moving to the SEC would mean playing a bunch of tough, even up games and less opportunity to add gimme wins with small schools because of the number of conference games would increase. On the positive side, the Buckeyes would get to play in nice warm locations rather than in gloomy, rust belt and mid-west towns.
Straight Talk
Actually, tOSU is ~22-13-2 (forget the exact numbers) against the ess eee see. The three gimmes are the same gimmes that LSU, Alabama, etc play.Take your bafoonery elsewhere.
Fundamentals are a crutch for the talentless.
7-2-1 regular season record against the All Mighty SEC. Your right we probably could handle it...and we were the underdog in most of our match ups in a down year in those bowls

I would love the higher level of competition week in and week out. It would only make us a better team.
Lets say you draft a five star guy and he spends every game toasing two star guys, and in another reality you have the same guy play other five dudes, the guy from the latter will end up being a better athelete because he has been battle tested. We can recruit with the best of them, but it makes it a lot harder to develop talent when you can't really push your players week in and week out. Between our OOC games and the disaster that is the B1G I would estimate that 6-8 games a year are complete cupcake matches. In that respect I would love to play in the SEC.
Tradition, rivalries, money, geography, I have to say I like the B1G better. It would be interesting to see how we would do against Bama, LSU, Florida and company in The Shoe though.

I think Ohio State would go independent before he would go to another conference.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
I was going to say that I would probably like the idea of going Independent better had all this realignment not started, it would have been nice for OSU to pick and choose their schedule each year, rather than just the non conference games.
I think the idea would be pretty cool if OSU were to go to the SEC, but a conference can only have so many elite teams before it becomes too much and kind of ruins college football. Stay in the Big10 and hope that if we do add 2 more schools that they'll be bigger names than Maryland and Rutgers.
I'm not an expert on such things, but I'm pretty sure the ties binding the B10 together go WAY beyond mere sports.
As hard as it is for sports fans to fathom, and unlike almost every other conference out there, those other ties are about 100 times more significant than "mere" college football. I think only the Pac Ten has similar infrastructure. The B10 and Pac Ten are the two conferences you can be absolutely sure will survive and flourish with there current members.
So, no, it isn't even in the realm of feasibility that Ohio State could leave for the SEC, barring some global catastrophe that destroys Western Civilization as we know it.
Zen - Thanks for bringing some common sense to this thread.
Ohio State IS the Big Ten

They would never move to a lesser respected academic conference. Alumni still have a huge influence and they would never go for it.

Nothing is keeping OSU from getting a tougher schedule. We have enough out of conference games to beef them up and consider some of our Big Ten competition the "gimme game." We don't because its better financially and schedule-wise to play a little lesser competition to get big appearances a the end of the year.
