Buckeye Room?

It's between cupcakes in the basketball schedule, and we have some time before national signing day, so on an off day I was just wondering:  who has a room in his/her house devoted to the Buckeyes?  What room?  How over-the-top is it decorated?  Also, what is the most prized piece of Buckeye memorabilia or other item displayed in that room?  I'm trying to figure out if I'm the only one out there that has let his Buckeye problem obsession take over his home.

As for me, I'm slowly turning a finished basement into a Buckeye room, although my kids are toddlers right now so it has toys littered everywhere most of the time.  It's got the scarlet and gray walls, pictures and things hung on the walls, bar, pool table, etc.  Most prized piece is probably a mini-helmet I got when I was in college that has the signatures of all the seniors from the 2002 title team.

I am doing the same thing.  My wife wouldn't let me get the scarlet wall, so I went the solid grey.  I am going to accent it with variour OSU items , including my 2010 Rose Bowl tickets

My bedroom has grey walls.. Brutus and Block O bordering it and the outlight is covered in buckeye material. Three different OSU pictures and around 2 shelves full of different Buckeye items. Anyone know anything cool to do with a lot of tickets? I've kept tickets from all the games I've gone to or my family has..

Single and still in college. So I have time until that all changes. Although hopefully that someone special will be a buckeye so it won't be so hard to get a buckeye room. She can have every other room.

Kitchen and living room are decorated with buckeye memorabilia including gray couch and red leather recliner.  Have a big picture of Coach Tressel hanging over the couch and a signed picture of Archie memorabilia over the fire place.  Also have a Buckeye Christmas tree in the room and a helmet on the end table next to my recliner.

Oh yeah, my dining room is gray below the chair rail and red above.

My wife made me stop there.

The helmet is my best peice of memorabilia.  I write the date and score of every game I attemd on a buckeye leaf sticker and put it on the helmet.  It is nearly full now and looks like it belongs to an All-American heading into the season finale.

I'd love to see pics of some of these rooms.  We may be doing some renovations at our house soon, and one project would be turning our garage (part of basement in house) into a mancave/hangout space.  I'd love to incorporate tOSU colors and/or memorabilia.  That and a kegerator.  LOL

I'm renting right now, but when I finally get my house I want to do up an office with a little bit of my buckeye memorabilia.  I got a calendar one year with detachable vintage Ohio State program covers, can't wait to frame those and deck out a room with an old-world kinda look--like old maps, photos, mine and my girfriend's degrees, my Archie Griffin autograph, and other cool things like that.  Throw in some wood, leather, and some other elegant decor, and I'll have a beautiful homage to my alma mater.

Cool ideas for your office decor! I really like that calendar of retro program covers.

I'm obsessed with old photos/images and maps in general, not just of Ohio State University and Buckeye football (I studied history as an undergrad). I especially like city street scenes and/or other images that capture "people in action" scenes within different historical contexts - which give a feel for the styles, patterns, rhythms of life in previous eras.

If you dig on history, check this map out.  Shows OSU's campus evolving--in ten year intervals--since 1871.

I also find the John H. Herrick Archives fascinating.  It documents the history of all the buildings to ever stand on campus, most buildings also have photos of them throughout their history.

Just spent an hour perusing the archives. Even though I was not on campus when the pictures were taken, I still feel like I am a part of them because of the time I spent around the very same places.

My house was built in 1923 and we're trying to keep it looking 'old', so I might have to get a bunch of those old OSU images transferred onto canvas and put them in random spots around the house.

If you've got the coin, those aforementioned links allow you to order the prints on canvas.  That old campus view of OSU circa 1940 is amazing.

Denny's picture

I actually like the idea of prints a bit better. Should I go the way of canvas, I may end up just finding old creative commons photos of the university out of the archives and then transferring them to canvas on my own. Canvas is so cheap that I don't mind trying it myself, and the results might be pretty awesome.

We had to do some foundation work on our house this past spring/summer.  That included rebuilding a section of wall in our basement.  My wife wanted to repaint the basement after construction.  Her idea was painting the ceiling black the walls gray and having gray carpet put down.  She thought a red stripe running horizontally would make it look OSU.  I said if we're going that far just paint the football helmet stripe all the way around.  So that is what we did.  My painter, who is the best I have ever used, is a fan of AACC.  He was less than thrilled having to paint my Buckeye basement.  He did and absolutely fabulous job.  It looks so kick ass.  My favorite piece is the brand new letterpress posters that I just got two weeks ago.  They are limited to 100 and the come in a set of three.  Each poster is signed and numbered.  One has Archie's, the other has Thad's and the third is signed by Urban.  They come framed and have museum grade UV protected glass.  Along with putting black and red furniture the room looks awesome.  Now I need to upgrade from the 50" TV to the 80".

Not that I would ever wish my Grandfather to pass away (I love the man) but I can't wait until my family receives our share of his OSU memorabilia. He owns 2 gold pants, a title ring, and a rose bowl watch. He played from 1955-1957, should have 2 rings if they let freshman play in 54

Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

When I graduated from Ohio State  (last fall at age 30 - I went back to school after being out in "the real world" for about a decade) I got my diploma framed with one of those swanky frames with the picture of University Hall, and decided I'd do the same for my wife, who graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Penn. Dickinson is a small, East Coast-type liberal arts school with a really gorgeous campus near the U.S. Army War College. I got our frames from the same place, and hers looks huge next to mine! We chuckle about the fact that my school dwarfs hers in size, but we have little diplomas, relatively speaking :)

I as well am slowly turning my "man cave" into a Buckeye room. Currently I am in the process of taking an old coffee table and turning it into a "buckeye history table." I was able to purcahse old reprints of newspaper headlines of buckeye classics, and I am going to glue them onto the coffee table top in a collage manner, and then put a clear coat over top to give it a nice finish. Hoping it will come out as good as I picture it in my head.

Once finished I will try to get a picture up.

NO WAY Bro! I won't leave you alone on this. People hatin' on man caves probably don't have a man cave of their own. You see, man caves can be any number of places where a Bro goes to escape the doldroms of life, your woman yelling at you to do the dishes, crying babies, or that work person who just bugs the shit out of you for no apparent reason. These are the places that have kegerators, Playboy magazines and ash trays, a big ass television, pool table and a card table just for spite, pictures of Bo Derek on the wall, right next to pictures of Bo Jackson and probably Woody Hayes. These are the Bro's Heaven before he actually ascends to heaven. Thats for real. But why is this a man cave? you ask. Because No one! comes into a man cave unless they're invited, otherwise you would call it a living room. And with that, perhaps this is where the confusion lies. Your man cave may be a Buckeye room, or your family room may be a Buckeye room. But your family room can NEVER be your Man Cave. #brofact

Doc's picture

I don't think it is being against the space.  I have a Buckeye basement.  Why do we have to name everything now-a-days?  In my line of thinking a "man" would never name a room, maybe his car, but not a room.  He especially wouldn't name it a man cave.  The Duke, himself, would ask the guy what kind of a sissy mary was he.  I would bet.  Plus, once we are married and have children there is no place in the house you can be alone.  That includes the can.  The only place I have any real solitude these days is in the car to and from work.

See, I've got no issue with the "man cave", in fact I dream of a day when I build my own wood-paneled den, complete with bar, kegerator, poker table, tv, leather couches, wine (and beer) cellar, and cigar-smoke-ventilation-system.  Granted, until I start dealing crack full-time, this will have to remain a dream instead of reality.

My only issue is with all the "man cave" branding.  I get the idea of personalization, but if you must name it go for something unique, like "The Hole", or "Shangri-La".  You don't need some predetermined list of "rules" or branding, men dwell there, therefore it is a man cave.

Well I already stated on here that my wife and I agreed to make the exterior gray with a scarlet door. I was going to do an all buckeye mancave in the unfinished basement but then I saw that 3 doors down is an UM alumni. So naturally I have to move the buckeye room to the garage so I can open it and he/she can see the buckeye glory I will bestow upon it.

going with the gray garage floor paint with that speckle crap in it. The gray walls with a buckeye strip going horizontal across all the walls. then I don't know what I am going to do from there but It will stand out!

still will do the mancave but I want to make the walls like the shoe and the wall with the flat screen will have the scoreboard (hopefully I can get an electronic one that shows scores) and the TV will be the new jumbotron built into the wall. I love golf so behind the couch/seating will be a gray painted putting green with a few holes. multiple other TVs is a must. I told my wife I have to have a minimum of 3 TVs all with hookups.

Mine mancave is called the "Fortress of Solitude". It has scarlet walls, dark hardwood floors, and a bricked fireplace. The only thing I never got around to was putting in a smoke eater so that I could enjoy cigars in the room. I had a scarlet felted Olhausen pool table but shortly after I got married, my wife made me move it downstairs to the basement because it took up too much room.

I owned my house before I got hitched so I was able to do whatever I wanted prior to being married. A word of warning to you single guys, no matter how much a woman tells you they love your house, they will make you move all your stuff once you "put a ring on it."

Other than the pool table, which is no longer in the man cave, my prized possessions include an OSU t-shirt quilt made from shirts I got while attending OSU as an undergrad, an OSU scrapbook that my mother-in-law made out of old press clippings from the 2002 Nat'l Championship Season, and a couple of plays/story/photo combos of great Buckeye moments. Here's a pic of one of the combo things I am talking about since my description didn't do it justice. This particular one is of Holy Buckeye.

This is why you find a cigar smoking, poker playing, scotch drinking female.

On a side note, your "Fortress of Solitude" sounds awesome.

If I had only known!!! At least she is a huge buckeye fan. She will occasionally smoke the smaller, flavored, lady cigars but as she's preggers, there was none of that going on this year.

I like the cut of our jib, Hodge. You were the only other person here who mentioned cigars in your perfect Buckeye room. I hope you get it someday. If I see you at a future 11W event, cigars are on me!

Ahh, cigars.  This needs to happen.  I propose a swap, your favourite and my favourite.  Spoilers: Padron 1964 Anniversario Maduro, either Robusto or Grand Corona.

Nice. I haven't had the pleasure, but I've heard good things. Davidoff is my favorite when I can find the brand. I only know of one place in Columbus that sells their full line (or most of it). Their Grand Cru #1 is probably my favorite if I had to pick one and would be my contribution to the party. My typical everyday smoke (not that I smoke every day) over the years has been a mid grade Romeo & Julietta or Fuente, though recently I have been on a Nub and Rocky Patel kick.

My OSU room.  Keeping in mind that we move A LOT as military, we don't do anything too permanent.  That's our 2nd Christmas tree, it is all OSU, except for the ornaments that belonged to our cat who died this past year, he earned his way in.  The block O was quilted by my mother.  The print is the 2002 Fiesta Bowl.  My prize possession is in the glass case on top of the movie shelves to the right.  It's a signed football by most of the 2006 team (Troy, Ginn, etc...).  The small football is signed by my buddy Gary Berry.  The floor to ceiling window shades (done by my mom-in-law) have scarlet bottoms and grey tops.  The TV is 73" of HD glory with full 7.1 surround sound and all.
