Wii U

Anyone getting it? My wife and I are making it our joint Chanukah present. I hope it will be a nice exclamation point to the ass kicking on Saturday.

No plans to get the Wii U just yet, but it would be nice to have a working Wii again...

Originally had no plans to get it because I hardly play my Wii now. But, I'm a sucker for Nintendo, and it would be nice to play NCAA Football next year.

im sticking with my ps3 for awhile. i'll see what games get developed for the wii U before i drop that much cash on it. if all they make is a mario game/zelda/metroid and then a bunch of games for 12 years olds, i'll save my money

Nintendo just dosent do it for me anymore, got out of video games years ago, thought the Wii was fun for a few weeks, now its a dust magnet. Doubt it will be anything groundbreaking, Nintendo is for the younger crowd, to many kiddie games.

Pay It Forward!

As for kiddie games, that's actually what I liked about our Wii.  Sure, I would enjoy some Mario Kart at times, but my kids enjoyed it along with games like Just Dance.  Plus, my wife and I were using Wii Fit at one point.

My young kids love the wii.  I like Mario and the archery on wii sports.  I wish they would come out with the classics, like Donkey Kong, for the wii.  That would be fun.

I grew up on NES and Super Nintendo.  I was a whizz on those old controllers.  I never really got into the Play Station and X Box craze so when I did try them I ended up being completely and totally inept at handling their controllers.  I have a Wii, that I rarely play, but I do prefer the Nintendo games and I love the Wii.  I love playing super mario and mario cart all that stuff.  I agree with you Doc, I'd love to get classics like Donkey Kong, and even the original Mario brothers, that predated the Super Mario games.

My first game system was ColecoVision! It was freakin awesome til NES came out. Moved on to a Sega genesis, N64-(loved 007!) and then finally bought a PS2 years ago. Haven't upgraded since and am still hesitant to do so as I don't know how much I'll actually play, and as soon as I do, something better will come out and my new purchase will be outdated and lame

The Wii U would be a good purchase if you were under the age of 13.

Have a Wii and a PS3 and it's safe to say I don't play my Wii at all. The Gamecube receives more PT than the Wii. The Dreamcast gets more PT than my Wii. THE DREAMCAST!!!!!

Nothing tops the Nintendo 64. I used to love Nintendo, had a 64 and then a GameCube, but the Wii to me is a tire fire. I rarely play video games anymore (The joy of always taking 20+ credit hours a semester), but I enjoy my 360. Nintendo to me has really gone downhill.

@William: I will agree that Nintendo 64 was (for me, at least) the pinnacle. Mario 64, Goldeneye, etc. was a HUGE chunk of my childhood. I'm still a huge Nintendo fan, and love the Nintendo franchise games. My wife and I are excited to get it for that reason (and because it's just a fun outlet).

I may get one eventually but there aren't really any games on it now to make it worth shelling out $350. Most of the games seem to be ones I can already get on my 360 for cheaper and the Wii U versions actually look worse. There's no way Nintendo should have made a console that's only on par with the now-7-year-old 360. Once the next Xbox and PS4 come out and give us a true next gen leap in graphics, the Wii U will be collecting dust just like my Wii did.

(Without trying to sound too much like a loser) The Wii U might not be a graphical powerhouse once PS4 rolls around. But, based on its specs, the Wii U destroys the current generation of systems (not my opinion), and will be more than viable for the next 4-5 years (about the average lifespan for a system).

I'm getting it. I feel like Nintendo did a terrible job marketing the product, as most people think it is an attachment or an add-on to the Wii. It is very much different than the Wii, and I am convinced that they're a little more tame with the motion stuff this time. I'm excited for it!

@ O-H KEE PA:

I disagree that the Wii U "destroys" current gen. Apparently it has a weaker CPU than the 360, twice the RAM for games, and a GPU that's supposedly better, but certainly hasn't shown it yet. The most generous estimates say it's 50% stronger than the 360, which sounds like a lot, but isn't at all when you consider the next Xbox/PS4 will be around 1000% stronger. Also some of the "extra" power the Wii U supposedly has goes to rendering images to the Wii U Game Pad, so you won't see it in its graphics, which could explain why many third-party games actually look worse than the PS3/360 versions.

Waiting for the PS4 or perhaps the latest XBox. I am happy with my PS3 right now and there is still plenty of life left in the current consoles. Sony and Microsoft have only begun talking about the next generation over the past year or so. They probably won't drop until Christmas 2013 at the earliest.
