Well luckily (and unluckily) for me, I'm in one of those programs of study where my "finals" are not finals at all, but torturously extensive research papers. So I don't have much in the way of studying per se, but I still have no time for sleep.
Thank God I don't have to deal with this anymore... I can't begin to tell you how much I hate finals and having all my papers, exams, homeworks due during that last week and back to back. I had never been mentally broken in my life until it came to finals week. Sleeping in buildings, libraries, at friends' houses only to take a 2 hours test and hibernate at the end of finals and sleep for 14 hours straight. No, thanks.
I never was really able to dominate any finals but did well in my classes. Hopefully, you have guys have a well enough cushions as to where your finals aren't do or die for you and you can coast through them. Final Exams are one of the many things I will NEVER miss about Ohio State.
Good Luck!

An aggregate 42 pages of writing, all due in the next 13 hours, a large portion of which is in another language. I can say with great pride, that I haven't slept or showered since monday
Just finished a paper on the trend of terrorist attacks in Hilla, Iraq, as well as the Southern Afghani provinces of Helmand and Kandahar earlier today. Have a paper due Monday next week on the relationship between the development of authoritarian regimes in Central Asia and Africa, and had to finish a paper earlier on Germany's political, militarisitic and economic systems, as well as its world-wide leverage. In all of these classes I also have finals.
I swear, I've read more this semester alone on political and militaristic theory/strategy than David Petraeus has read in his lifetime. Although, that might not be saying much.
Do we have the same major perchance? Im wrapping an argument/counterargument on the epistemelogical significance of disagreement, a research paper on the difference in shock therapy implementation in different governmental constructs in Chile and the US, and a similar thesis paper about the shock doctrine itself, on a small scale as disaster capitalism in the US, and on a large scale as technocratic reform in Latin American and Asia.
Does OSU still follow the rule if you have three finals in one day you can have one moved to another day? Maybe its back to back to back. You might wanna check that out!

Best of luck William and get lots of sleep. I've only took back to back exams twice and both times they were brutal experiences. From memorization to problem solving and vice versa its easily to get burned out a slow down mentally during exams.

this is why you dont major in something that requires you to write extensive papers. Longest paper I had in my four years so far has been 16 pages and that not difficult at all. I would honestly rather write a paper than study for 6 finals tho.
I would honestly rather write a paper than study for 6 finals tho.
I'm the complete opposite. My finals consisted of either memorization of facts, problem solving and equations or essay exams. While, I enjoyed writing papers while at OSU, I much rather take a test. I easily put too much time into papers!
I much rather cram and memorize something like this, which I've done in the past
then sit there and write a paper...

Are you thinking med school? If so, that thing is completely useless.
Spoiler: You'll be tested to pieces on the TCA cycle at the undergrad and graduate level, yet it's pretty meaningless to the actual practice of both biological sciences and medicine. There's some kind of dirty mnemonic I memorized, then forgot long ago during the early years of med school.
I think this is similar: http://hunterpostbacprehealth.wordpress.com/2007/10/25/cellular-respiration-for-dummies-and-dirty-mnemonics-from-student-doctornet/
Good luck!!

Medibuck, I've graduated and moved on to better things. I could have applied to Med school if l took a few other OChem classes but I decided not to go down thah path and just apply to a few grad schools that I'm still waiting to hear back from. Not sure if you went to Med school based on your name but I never had the passion to pursue that route not to mention the amount of time and money you invest in something like that. Take no offense to this.
I used the TCA cycle as an example of something I memorized but I've been through that classes that used it and served my time. I also used dirty mnemonics all through undergrad to learn stuff and its paid off!
Sidenote: My prof for the class got his PhD from Wisconsin and loved talking about his badgers during class. Hopefully he's not disappointed with the results of the game tomorrow.

Oh, you sweet semester children. You know nothing of finals. Finals are for the winter, when the snows fall a hundred feet deep and the ice wind comes howling out of the north.
Might I recommend Vyvanse. Less addictive, less anxiety-inducing, and longer lasting on average. Also more available presently, and comes with a nice euphoria on the side.
It's laughable that you need that to get through finals (not saying I never tried it before). The stress of finals become laughable when you get a decent job... like, a 60+ hour a week job with responsibilities, deadlines, revenue goals, making hiring and firing decisions.
Not trying to demean you. Just saying, it doesn't become any easier, so dont become dependent on that nasty stuff. There will come a day when you'll have to be able to get through life without being dependent on stuff like that. Compared with what I have to do on a day to day basis, I would trade places with any kid that has finals.
Sorry if that came off as harsh. Just expressing my concern. Best of luck on finals fellow Buckeye. There's nothing more gratifying than that diploma hanging on your wall (except the birth of your children so I've heard, which I havent experienced yet, but which Mrs. Humble and I are trying for now). Knock 'em dead brother. Just be careful with the amphetamines.
Honestly, I've never noticed any increase in focus from any drug, ever. The one thing you can be sure of with stimulants is that you won't have to worry about crashing, and it's a great convenience to cut sleep out of the list of things hampering work.
I just consume coffee by the liter. Doesn't necessarily increase focus, but I'm wired for hours on end after consumption. Stuff is the black nectar of the gods.
See, that's what I'm avoiding. I used to utilize coffee only, and then it had to be caffeine pills to get enough at one time, and all that did was lead to caffeine sweats, anxiety, and an awful crash
I hear ya. Just speaking from my experience. I wish I would have learned the value of time management a little better while in college so that I didn't have to pull all nighters. It was a rough transition when I got to the corporate world and realized that you can't do things like pull all nighters because after a deadline you're still expected to be back at your desk and working on the next project at the same level of productivity. All nighters just put you in a hole.
Everything you guys are doing, I have done too. Just be careful is all I'm saying. Best of luck to all you Buckeyes taking finals!
(and if you're wondering why I'm awake, it's because I can't sleep. I have to go into work tomorrow and fire a single mother. Having trouble sleeping obviously. But honestly, I gave her plenty of chances)
Just so it is clear, I have never used Aderol. I was simply reading into the first few posts above. Personally when I was in school decades ago I never thought things like that helped me study. Plus havent they done studies that show if u study on drugs you have to take the test on drugs for the memory to come back?
Yes there are two Buckeyes in Ann arbor on this site!
Like I said, the Vyvanse doesn't do anything for my concentration, it just keeps the anxiety, hunger, and other distractions away, as well as giving me a guaranteed 12 hours of alertness.
Please child, teen pregnancy is like any other pregnancy, the women can decide if they become pregnant. Female bodies have a way to shut that stuff down. It's real science I tell you, real.
Funny how times have changed! Used to be coke or speed, now its ADD meds.
I smoked weed during finals week. I knew my $hit but always had anxiety issues. A couple of tokes kept me mellow when I sat down. Adderol would only increase that anxiety.
No. I am not. I'm pretty happy with my set up but since the commissions are paid monthly, I budget off of my base per month and anything above and beyond is extra. Its the extra that I 'stress' about because its the difference between X and Y in the savings and Jim Beam or Woodford Reserve bourbon.

I now see why this is illegal in football, I feel like I could go over to Noah Spence's dorm and block him without pads.
5'10'' , 170 BTW
Good luck on those finals.

Yeah man, I didn't go here to play no school, neither.
Shameless self bump. Here we are again
6 finals, 3 research papers. Hell week, here we go.

You wouldn't happen to be a PoliSci major?
I sure would. I'll go even further and say that based on your research topics, you're on a comparative track, no?
International Relations actually. Double Majoring with a focus in Macroeconomics too.
Ahh, yes. Im a double with Spanish, focusing on Latin American political and economic crisis.
Good stuff. I'm actually looking to focus a bit on the European Union. Plenty of economic/political crisis throughout the Eurozone.
No finals...just alcoholism.
Just kidding...I've actually decided to combine the two.
3 finals in one day... no problem...

I have 3 finals on one day too. That day happens to be December 12th..

Seriously. Let the senioritis flow through your veins.
Yup, I got senioritis pretty bad right now... Second semester its gonna be way worse. Just purely coasting by having a good time.
High school and referencing the great john candy...color me impressed.
Also up, finals week is the bomb.com. Gonna need to hook me up with some of that adderall for next week though.
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite

Loling right now because erectile dysfunction is one of the more common side effects of Vyvanse.
Haha I've read those studies, but when you use something 2 or 3 nights every 6 months or so, you're pretty safe.
Oh definitely. Just found it comical that a common drug used to medicate against ADHD has a side effect like that.
Most stimulants are vasoconstrictors, but the side effect tends to only last while usage lasts.
It makes sense. I mean, ADHD is most pervasive among adolescents, and... OH HEY LOOK! THAT CHICK HAS A NICE RACK!

I have that every month. It's called "Month end in a job where comission checks decide what you eat the next month".
I scoff at your silly, foolish notion of finals.

you 100% commission? I hated that. Great money but those rough months were awful. My bank statements were like a heart rate monitor!
