I had a conversation with my wife on Saturday as the AACC marching "band" came on the field. To me they are the worst marching band I have ever seen in my 42 years on God's green Earth. Worst ever, high school or college. She doesn't think they are that bad, bad, but not worst ever. "You like an all brass band, they're not all brass" she says to me. My contention is this, if you still need flag lines and/or baton twirlers you suck. Leave that shit back in H.S.. This is big time college stuff, not tinkertoy time. I also believe the "musicians" shouldn't have the music clipped to their instruments(their band may or may not do this, but it is another band pet peeve I have). Again, it is big time college stuff, memorize that shit. It has nothing to do with being all brass or not. Granted, I have been spoiled over the past 20 years watching excellence every week. Every band sucks next to TBDBITL, but TSUN's takes it to another level. I won her over when she saw the "guy" in the flag line. I pointed out he was the skinniest one of the flaggers, wondering out loud how they trained the pigs to walk on their hind quarters AND twirl a flag.
So, my question to the commentariat is this. Of you who have seen this dog and pony show before, what are your thoughts?

Isn't the drum major a baton twirler? I kid. My wife was a bandie and she was in color guard, she said to me, don't they march with a color card? I said what the hell is the color guard? lol. Obviously, she didn't think it was as funny as I did. I told her I thought other than the drum major everyone on the field has brass, no rifles, flags, drums etc.
I may be confused with your comment, but I thought the drums DID march with the band on the field.

But the marching flounder's what? :-)
In response to your question though, I thought they we're pretty "meh". It didn't move the meter for me one direction or the other. The one thing that fired me up though was their butchering of OSU's fight song before the game. That was absolutely terrible. Also, their failed ploy for cheers by spelling out USA at the end of their show was just comical.
I would say they have a very average to slightly below average band if I look at it without rival glasses on.

How would you know what the band was like? It seems to me that you were too busy making the poor guy behind you miserable the whole game by standing and cheering?
We'll, I was sitting down before the game and during halftime when the band's were on the field...

I hate it when lurch looking mofos come and sit in front if you. Gets me upset every time.
I was not impressed with their band...but not as unimpressed as you.
My initial reaction was something like this:
HA! Your band has Woodwinds!
Their band used to be a bit better, but they've never been in OSU's class. No question it's OSU first, then Purdue or m*ch*g*n State picking up a very distant second.
I was at the game and I thought AACC's band was very quiet. I could barely hear them.
That was by request.
TSUN's band absolutely sucked. About 6 minutes or so into halftime, my dad looked out on the field and said "oh their band is out there, I couldn't even hear them." Neither could I. I could barely hear them throughout the game (granted, I was in 29A, way down in the opposite corner from them, but still). That's a good thing because everything they play sucks, and so do they.
Every time I see them in the 'Shoe, I hope someone falls on their ass doing that stupid run on to the field stuff. So lame. TBDBITL is pure gold and will always beat them in the band battle each year.
B1G generally has good bands. MSU, PSU, Purdue, and Wisconsin all have good bands. I think I've also seen Illinois and Indiana's bands, too.
I don't think TSUN's band does the music on the horns anymore, but I believe they used to. In high school, we didn't have that - we had to memorize.
Class of 2010.
At the end of the game when everyone rushed the field the AACC band was "stuck" in their seats. They had to sit there for quite some time while the field was cleared. My wife and I went down and stood in AA deck near them and watched the frivolity on the field for awhile after the players had gone in the locker room. While the mass of people were leaving up the ranmp in the North endzone some people stopped right in front of their band and sang "Don't Give a Damn" to them. I thought it was funny as hell, but the band members looked salty.
