Well, i finally got my acceptance letter to THE Ohio State University! Its a dream come true for me. I cant believe it, but I'm gonna be a Buckeye! I cannot wait to join the OSU family

Congrats man!
Thanks guys! I'm planning on majoring in Industrial Engineering with a minor in Economics/Business.
Anyone else out there thats been accepted with similar major?
Congrats!

THE Ohio State University
Congrats falconlax13 and best of luck
O H I O is the Buckeye State
Cheers, mate! Enjoy the Hell out of it, it's a blast!
Congrats. I was originally Biomedical Engineering/Pre-Med, but decided I wanted to have a life, as well as enjoy school, so I switched and am doubling in Political Science (IR) and Economics. Again congrats, you'll have a great time.
Cheers, mate. I hope your years at OSU are as memorable, enlightening, and enjoyable as mine. I wouldn't trade mine for anything else in the world.
Time and change; welcome to the family.
Taquitos.
William-any advice for me as a future engineering student?
Get used to the SEL (Science and Engineering Library), as you will spend countless nights in there.
Haha sounds good.
Congrats!!!
Don't get used to the SEL bathrooms. Grad students essentially bathe themselves in them.
Taquitos.
Hahaha... If i could give you a +1, i would! (Only like 12 helmet stickers to go...)
Well, here's an upvote as a congrats and to help you get more helmet stickers. OSU college experience is great. Congrats and enjoy...and be safe. And sign up for the football student ticket lottery.
Thanks! Yeah definitely signing up for that as soon as possible. Also-is it a good idea to sign up with a group of people? To ensure you sit with the same group
congrats man. im majoring in welding engineering...be prepared, engineering is tough. especially the first two years of prereqs
Sign up to be the in the BBQ club...thank me later.
BBQ club-sounds awesome. Also want to join the bacon club.
Also, sounds like engineering is gonna be a TON of work. I hope i can handle it. How does it compare to taking AP classes in high school?
Advice for engineering student: TURN BACK NOW. I started as one, then quit after calc brutalized me. Take the 150 series, not the 160 series.
Seriously, best of luck and congratulations!

Just make sure to have a good time and live it up while you're there whatever that means for you individually. Real life will be waiting for you on the other side, and you'll be wishing you had the college lifestyle back, trust me!
I had an awesome time there, and still feel like I didn't take enough advantage of it. It'll be the best 4 years of your life.

engineering isnt impossible, just be prepared to work hard. get a good start (work hard your first year) and it will pay off big time later on. congrats again, osu engineering is one giant family
I took 11 AP courses in high school. I'd say they prepare you pretty decently, if you had strict teachers. Calculus is turrible though.
As far as engineering goes, I definitely want to ateast try it, and see if I can actually make it through. I've had almost 1.5 years of college level calc and physics by now in high school, and I'm hoping that will help.
Congrats. As an electrical engineer, my fellow EEs along with my chemical engineers and mechanical engineers colleagues make fun of industrial enginners calling them imaginary engineers. But I kid... industrial engineering is way more respectable than civil engineering.;) it doesn't take four years to learn water flows down hill or how to count cars passing an intersection.
I also interview about two dozen engineering student ever year looking for co-ops. My favorite question to ask them is why they picked engineering and particularly the discipline they picked. Ask yourself why you're picking industrial engineering and make sure your answer is better than "because I like math and science". And if you're interviewing for an internship/co-op and you're asked this question, come up with a better answer than liking math and science.
Oh that will definitely help. Just be prepared is all I have to say, if you can handle the load of course work, you'll be fine.
Hopefully i will be able to find a roommate who is also in Engineering, because I cant imagine trying to gp through engineering school alone. Speaking of which, I'm gonna be a loner from Pittsburgh who doesn't know anyone else going to OSU! And i need a roommate who is in engineering and loves Buckeye football!
Congrats and welcome to the family. If I could go back in time to be where you're at now, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'm a senior graduating in Spring with an Economics degree and I can honestly say being at Ohio State has been the time of my life. Enjoy this moment and get ready for a crazy freshman year.
That should get you to 50. Congrats!
Congrats young person.
vacuuming sucks
J.Mo-I thought Indistrial Engineering would be good for me because of my interest in economics, logistics, and things of that nature (wow that seems kind of nerdy haha...oh well, its me) as well as math and science of course. I actually was originally planning to do civil engineering before i discovered industrial ;)
TheHostiledWarf- yep! I'm seeing the upvote/downvote. Thank you all for giving me the power to vote! Haha
I've already been through Ohio State Engineering program and stuck with BME (Biomedical Engineering) and it was pretty difficult but is getting a lot better now that they are on their third year as an undergrad program. ISE with your minor is a typical combination and companies like to hire OSU grads. If I'm not mistaken ISE @ OSU is in the top 20 and there is a lot you can do with it (optimization, ergonomics, biomechanics...). One of my 9 roommates did ISE and its probably the easiest engineering program to finish since most of it deals with engineering economics. It often gets looked down as "fake/imaginary engineering" so get ready to take lots of jokes from other people in the engineering program. Sidenote: CHBE is the hardest to do. I was a BME ambassador for our department and answered several questions similar to the ones you are asking. Feel free to email me (mngosha@gmail.com) and I'll answer any of your questions.
William, if you bash my major again, I will be force to downvote your next post, lol! I did BME, and I had a fairly good social life. My biggest social group was the people in my major and we often went to basketball, football games and happy hour together at Little bar and the Outer Inn. In addition, we were all able to be in extracurriculars (sports, intramurals, research, etc.) while doing well in school. You can enjoy life, enjoy school and etc. I know you didn't mean to single my major out but don't think we don't think we don't have a life.
All come on its not that bad. Don't turn back; calculus isn't that bad and the school has done a lot to provide resources to students. I've been fortunate to tutor this subject so don't turn back back now, its not to hard and I've seen students who struggled with it do well.
Congrads on being accept to Ohio State! Go Bucks...

BME-Thanks a lot! I'm sure I'll have some questions in the near future for you. Thank you for the offer. Go Bucks
Congrats dude. I know the feeling as it happened less than a year ago and you will never sleep for a week. I'm a Business major with a double concentration in Accounting and Finance.
/Duff'd It
@ J.Mo, I see you wasted no time calling out ISE as fake engineering. Take no offense to this as a major. I upvoted your comment...
I met a girl from Pittsburgh and she was in your shoes. Don't worry, you'll fit right in with all the other Pittsburg Squeeler fans on campus. There are TONS of them everywhere. Hell, I lived in a house that was fans of the entire AFC north...

Haha thats good to hear. I do know a few kids who are applying to OSU, but none are really my good friends or anything. In my area, OSU is definitely the enemy haha... Not many Buckeye fans around
My advice for FalconLAX13: go as easy on yourself academically as you're able to your freshman year. I was a pretty good student (albeit in a field nowhere near as intense as engineering), but suffice it to say I did not manage the, uh, "distractions" of campus life very well as a freshman, especially that first spring quarter (my reference to OSU having "quarters" now marking me forever as an old guy).
Congratulations to you. Although we have never met, I consider you a brother, a Flounder to my Bluto.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
ya seriously don't be an honors engineer. It's rocking my world...34 ACT salutatorian and taking D's on midterms left and right and up till 4:25 a.m on consistent basis
How Firm Thy Friendship....
Congrats! Now go Falcon Punch the crap out of some beers!!
-The Aristocrats!
It's the same as when I was there 20 years ago...go introduce yourself to Addriatico's and Catfish Biff's Pizza as they will appear on your credit card statement even if most of the time you don't remember ordering or eating pizza on the night in question.
D. Anthony
I can say this for a fact. The only thing better than being an engineer, is being MARRIED to an engineer! If you ever get the opportunity, I suggest you take it.
Falcon,
If you're honors, definitely do the FEH program. I hated calc, but loved that program. Also, if honors, live in Lincoln Tower, not on north with all the nerds. lol. I found that having non-engineers as suitemates actually made my life much better. (Though my actual roommate was a CSE major.)

Thompson library is your friend, especially the rediculously overcrowded coffee shop. Make good friends with a Redeye or Blackeye (one or two shots of espresso in coffee), it's an excellent study partner. These drinks are also the key to making Starbucks's coffee drinkable (that is, if you prefer black coffee; if you're more into lattes and cappuccino, you'll be fine with their offerings).
Also, remember the Caffeine Curve, try to space out your coffee/energy drink consumption so that your curves are constantly overlapping, because you don't want a Triple Shotgun Murder, now do you?
Congrats. I hope you have a wonderful experience. Someday, I know you will value your tOSU degree as much as I do.
congrats dude, that's a huge accomplishment. I got an MS in math from tOSU in 2012. It's a hell of a school, not to mention the athletic programs are outstanding and there are TONS of hot girls. I actually taught calculus I and II to the engineering majors a couple of times during my 2 years there.
you'll run into athletes all the time too. I met aaron craft three times when visiting the SEL.
go bucks!
Congrats! Just be ready for a faster pace in the classroom than expected and don't get down if you have trouble at some point along the way. Be ready to ask for help, and stay committed to the schedule... It's worth it in the end.
Also, make sure you have some fun along the way. It's not all about the classroom. It's about the experience!
Good luck and Go Bucks!
Congratulations! Enjoy the journey. I sure did.
Class of 2010.
Congrats! Hope To send my sons there someday! Will be a great day if it happens!
Congratulations!
Congratulations and good luck!
congrats
GoBucks713-I cant tell you how many Capt. Falcon jokes I've heard throughout high school haha
Bed-good to know. I'll defintely keep that in mind.
Everybody-Thanks again! This thread is one of many reasons I love Buckeye Nation!!
Congrats! My daughter is waiting on her acceptance. Probably would have happened by now but she had a review committee for her essay. Before you get any ideas, the answer is no. No daughter of mine will be associated with a Squeeler fan. ;-)
My wife is an IE (from Purdue, yes we have a mixed marriage) and she recommends you minor in management. The only IE work she did was as an intern. She became a Program Manager right out of school and it has worked out well. I no longer tease her about being the only practicing engineer in the family.
You've received a lot of good advice. One thing I always tell kids these days is keep your eye on the ball, have some fun and get a Masters while you're at it. It will pay big dividends down the road.
Good Luck. It's another great day to be a Buckeye!
Congratulations! Welcome to the family!
Great job and congratulations!!
Anyone know if Apple computers are compatible with the OSU systems? And also, are there any computer companies that offer discounts for OSU students? My dad mentioned something like that when we discussed my plans to buy a laptop for college.
Congratulations man, I have to wait till late January for my results!!
Apple offers discount for osu students, and yes OSU system is compatable with Apple computers.
Congrats Falcon, there can never ever be enough tOSU grads in the world!! Best of luck in your educational endeavor.
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
I'm green with jealous rage! Jk Congrats and good luck!
Wherever you are, there you be!
Congrats, I didn't go to Ohio State but I'm sure you'll have the best 4 years of your life.
Run_Fido's favorite word is strawman.
Congratulations, buddy! I'm so jealous of your access to tickets for the next four years :(

Welcome to the family, young man - it's always a great day to be a Buckeye!
"The revolution will be televised."
Congrats! Just enjoy every moment of it that you can. Take road trips to football games and always keep a watchful eye out for other OSU alum because we're everywhere and you'll get a warm feeling every time you see one of us outside of Ohio. Soak in as much as you can. Participate in as much as you can. And again...enjoy every moment! It'll be gone before you know it but your experiences will never be taken away from you as long as you live.
Congrats!
I went through the undergrad program at OSU in Aerospace Engineering, I'm currently working on my Masters, and I'm considering a PhD (also in Aero). BME_BUCKEYE made some great points in the really long post. In my experience, engineering does become a sort of second family, particularly within your major. Make sure to get to know people right off the bat your first year. Several of the people I hung out with freshman year in the general engineering classes turned out to be great friends, and subsequently, professional contacts at several companies.
As from being from out of state, that's not really a big issue. A lot of engineering students are from out of state, and many are international students. My roommate, who's also a Masters level Aero, is actually from Pittsburgh.
Engineering is tough, but it's not as horrible as we all like to make it seem. If it is for you, you'll really enjoy what you're doing, even if the struggle of understanding very complicated subjects is frustrating.
One big thing: don't be shy about talking to your professors. Most students are reluctant to go to professors for help, but this can save you a lot of frustration. The vast majority of professors are very helpful, and I'm sure they enjoy the break from grading and other paperwork.
