Went to watch the NASCAR race sunday. Left Saturday afternoon. Had to give myself enough time from leaving Panama city to get somewhere close to watch the game without being a crazy distance away from the track. Anyway I made really good time and got into the area with about 30 minutes before kickoff. Couldnt find a place that had the game on for a good little while then finally found this little bar kinda out of the way. Walked in and commanding the bar was all Huskers fans. Some of the NICEST people I have ever met. Shared some beers, some stories and enjoyed the game (well I did a little more than them). It was nice meeting some great fans and not being in hostile territory. Met some nice Bama fans there as well. Was nice to get around some great people especially after I had a run in with a loud mouth FSU fan last weekend.
Ive had some pretty decent luck this year of meeting some great fans of different colleges. Good to know that there ARE some great fans out there and not everyone of them are jerks like stories that most of us have probably heard.

Speaking of Talledega, "shake and bake."
How about that crazy 25 car wreck in the race? I'm not much for NASCAR, but that was pretty wild.
It's amazing sometimes how wide-spread the fan bases can be. I live in Beavercreek, OH, but work in Cinicnnati, Indianapolis, and Hammond, IN.
Co-workers in Indianapolis are mostly Michigan State, Ohio State, and Purdue fans. All are great to talk to about football. Of course we give each other a little grief pre-game and post-game, but nothing hateful.
Strangely, one MSU fan in Indianapolis is a woman that did not go to MSU, doesn't know anyone that went to MSU, and doesn't know anyone from the state of Michigan. But she visited East Lansing one summer and had a wonderful time so she chose the Spartans as "her team". (Her husband is a Buckeye)
Locally, in Beavercreek, the neighborhood bar has representation from all over the Big Ten... I may have to find out why they chose their team. Could be some interesting stories behind it.
I was sitting right across from the entrance to pit road. That wreck happened right to the left of where we were sitting. Might as well have happened right in front of me. It was pretty incredible. And im a Jeff Gordon fan so to see him make it out of that crash and finish second made my day.
If you have never been to a race and you ever get a chance, DO IT. It is a great experience. This was my first time going to a race and I was around some great people. Everyone was really nice. And just hearing those cars in person and watching them go around the track is something else.
And for being in Alabama there was alot of Roll Tide shirts worn yesterday and they were all pretty polite. Didnt get any negativity wearing my Brutus T-shirt.
Races are so much fun - it's been a long time since I went to one. That wreck was wild, and as I was seeing it happen, I was thinking "I don't see Gordon anywhere in this mess, he could win!" then they showed Matt Kenseth winning. A moment of "UGH" until Gordon came across in 2nd. Looks like Jeff may not be out of this thing yet.
I bet that loudmouth FSU fan has been taken down a few notches. Don't turn your back on the Wolfpack.
Class of 2010.
Yeah well last saturday (sept. 29) I went to a small bar with my wife for her birthday. She wanted to sing so we went to this bar. Had a few drinks and everyone was having a great time and this dude stands up sees my Buckeye shirt gives me the finger and says "F*** Ohio st." I was like ok cool whatever but he felt the need to walk right up to me to make sure I heard him the first time. We got into a little war of words. He was trying to fight me basically. Positioning himself behind me to make sure I wasnt looking but I wasnt giving him any oppourtunity. I wanted with every inch of my body to just lay this guy out but I just got this new job in the AF and I dont need to start off on the wrong foot with my commander plus I dont need to spend the night in jail with my two girls at home. No fight took place so that was the good thing plus at this bar it was pretty buckeye heavy so nobody was letting anything happen.
My wife was back at that same bar just this past saturday while I was at the race and she was looking pretty hard for this guy so she could remind this guy that we are 6-0 in the BIG while he just lost to the wolf pack and his teams title chances had vanished. Guy was nowhere to be seen though.
