I was talking with a friend at work a few minutes ago and he said something about Herbie flaming the Torg because he said some crap on his twitter about how he hated Desmond "Dr. Teeth" Howard. Does anyone know anything about this?

Torg tweeted that he would like Desmond to get fired or die so that he could actually watch Gameday. Word is that he's been suspended, and yes, Herbstreit came on The Big Show and went off about it.
Common Man and the Torg is an awesome show, herbie sucks so much more now.
Why does Herbie even feel the need to get involved in this? Not to say I am surprised...seems like his typical posturing.
I do listen to Common Man and the Torg sometimes on the way home from work. They do make more then their fair share of death jokes. So I wouldn't say this was out of the ordinary for the Torg.
Torg shouldn't have said it however Desmond Howard is an a**hole who shouldnt care. Desmond Howard also brings the hate upon himself.... If that douche and the douche that was Jessica Simpson's first husband didn't sing the Michigan version of "Hail to the Mother****ers" at the top of Ohio Stadium in 2005 before the Taxas game, I wouldn't hate him as much.
If you taunt your rivals as a tv personality, you better be prepared for the hatred coming your way.
Torg should've left out the die part. If he did, I'd completely agree. Howard sucks, and it's not just cause he's a TSUN guy.
Class of 2010.
Herbstreit was right there on the sidelines when Howard rubbed it in our face in 1991. I've usually stayed out of the "fake Buckeye" talk about Herbie, but how can you have anything more than a cordial working relationship with a person like that and still keep your self-respect? Some things can't be forgiven.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
I have zero sympathy for Torg. You have a public persona that represents a radio station: I'm sorry, but you don't make jokes like this public. He made the choice to air his opinion for the whole world to hear, and he has to deal with the consequences of embarassing his employer.
For example, I'm a huge fan of really dark, filthy, and macabre humour: but I don't make the twisted jokes that I find amusing here on this site because I know it's not appropriate for some people, and is a detriment to discourse. I'm twenty-three, Torg's thirty-eight. He should know better.
Also, I don't blame Herbie for defending Howard: they're colleagues, and by all accounts, get along swimmingly. It's a testament to the institutions that shaped both men that they can look past their competitive hatred to work together so cordially. Howard made the right decision for himself, and is hated by his home state for doing so: can you blame him for laughing at the derision directed toward his success?
Sorry NW I didn't see it in the Other Stuff forum. Personally I wouldn't consider this a football topic. I guess this just goes to show what kind of boneheads are on the fan.

Because Torg called for the death of one of his coworkers. Death. We're talking about football here, not warfare. Herbie travels the country working with Des, works beside him for hours at a time, probably sees him outside of work eveery so often. In short, they are civilized.
Letting a rivalry escalate to publicly wishing someone dead, when you have a loud megaphone, and (I'm not saying it is likely) there are crazy people out there that might take this serious.
I generally think he Torg is a clownish idiot, but Herbie overreacted. It was a joke. It wasn't a good one. It was in poor taste. But it was a joke. Keep Calm and put on more bronzer dude.
He got suspended but from what Mike was saying during the show today it does sound like he will be back. Torg's just not too bright of a guy.
Let'em live!

You guys serious? I like The Common Man and Torg, don't get me wrong... but Herbie has EVERY RIGHT, and damn near obligation to speak on this. Maybe if you took the time to listen to what he said in reference to it you may have a little bit better of an understanding as to where HE was coming from... Desmond is a longtime co-worker of his yes, but these dudes are also friends-- close friends. He was disgusted by the comments, and the fact that this was re-tweeted millions of times didn't help; Desmond's wife and daughter being among those re-tweeted. The man felt as if he had to step up and defend his buddy and his family.. so what? If given the opportunity who wouldn't? I agree, Desmond still sucks and I puke every time I see the Heisman celebration-- but I would never wish death on the dude... kinda "out there" don't ya think?
anyway.. off my soapbox--- GO BUCKS!
Remember that in the end you will be judged not by what you believed, planned or dreamed; but, by what you did.
Heres what happens: Torg gets suspended, says he's sorry, then comes back and no one cares because something else exciting happened since then.
seriously though...I can't stand watching desmond howard on there.
Our honor Defend!
I apologize if I offend anyone but I guess I don't understand the big deal. I don't think this could honestly be taken as a real death wish (and certainly not a threat) upon Desmond Howard. Don't get me wrong, I don't think the tweet was classy by any means. In fact, I find many of the Torg's comments to be somewhat reprehensible. However, I do not think Herbie or anyone else needs to act like they are protecting Desmond Howard from a statement that seemed to be made in jest. In this day and age in America it seems as if every action is met with overreaction and this situation is another example of that.
<duck>
Also, I love College Gameday.

To be fair, ESPN doesn't understand how bad a personality is until he is gone. See: Craig James.
"I like to kick Michigan's ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum."
The only good thing Howard has done on Gameday was call Pollack soft when he complained about the weather in Big 10 country.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
I agree with the predominant view that the tweet was better off not said and in bad taste. That said, put things in perspective here. This was a joke, and is just another bit of 'sports hate'. There are plenty of things that are said in reference to sports that people don't get offended or even bat an eye, but if they were said in different contexts, they would be wildly offensive. This is just another example of that. Think about other things said in regards to football. "screw blue", "muck fichigan", at the shoe on kickoffs, O-H-I-O, Rip his...you get the point. Again, the tweet was not well said, but anyone who regularly listens to CM&T realizes that the point was that Desmond Howard is terribly biased and makes the show hard to watch, not that he should actually die.
Heard an ad today for common man and t-bone to be at BBR this saturday. So I guess that means he's out for at least that long.
this is the def of a non-issue for me, just thought I'd pass the info along.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
Yeah I posted this on another thread that he is suspended indefinitely, whatever that means.

I dont care about College Gameday, but I will say, Torgs incessent blathering causes me to turn the radio OFF more than anyone I've ever heard. If this is what it takes, then... awesome!
The show is boring now. Common man and Torg make my hour drive home more enjoyable with their high school like personalities. Suspending him was wrong, it's just a tweet.
Tomorrow
The Common Man and Torg are really just sports themed shock-jocks and don't pretend to be more...that's why people like them and they have a solid following. This has gone on too long Free the Torg!

It hasn't even been a full week yet. I'm sure String Bean will let Torg return in due time.
Probably because I don't live in columbus but I could care less about what happens to a local radio show personality. Here in Louisville they get changed out at least every 2-3 years except for one guy and I wouldn't care if he left either. As long as they don't replace them with a moron, I don't really care.
I am usually one of those who talk about Herbie and his fake attempts at trying to look non-biased (it really is just way too much) but I have no problem with him defending a co-worker like that despite it being Howard. I don't care for Desmond but doesn't mean he should get death wishes no matter how innocent they may be. You never know what lunatic is out there going "Hey, Torg wants Desmond Howard dead. I am secretly in love with Torg and will do what he wants so that I can be his favorite person and have a lock of his hair!"
What may be a joke to one person might be an invitation for bad things to another.
Had to plus 1 you SM. The downvotes to me are the cowardly way of saying you disagree with someone.
-The Aristocrats!
Suspended indefinetely? Really? For being himself? I get you can't yell "fire" in a crowded theatre, but tweeting D. Howard to get fired or die is totally different. Anyone that follows Torg knows he is trying to be funny and can't take it seriously. Yes, he shouldn't have done it, but for crying out loud get on with the show and let him back on the air.
torg. citgo. ding. common man will speak on it at 3.

Common Man barely said anything. Boooooring.
That's just what Common Man is without Torg, 741: boring. He was boring way back when he was Spielman's sidekick only. He's been pretty boring witt the fill-in hosts.
I'm not so mad that I'll boycott the station, but I'll be tuning in way less now.
