The so called "Nittanyville" has set a record for tents and total students. I'm not sure how I feel about this. As Buckeye fans, I guess we should be flattered. Their student body obviously thinks that this battle of bowl-banned teams is a huge one. On the other hand, I feel like pulling something off like this is pretty nerdy. When I was in school I was much more concerned with buying cases of Busch Lite the morning of game day than making sure my tent didn't have any leaks in it. Aren't house parties and tailgating a much better pre-game ritual than making sure you don't pee yourself in the line at the porta john at 3 am on Wednesday morning? I realize part of the reason they do it is because the student section is first come first served, but still. Seems extreme, mostly because of the booze situation because that's all I was concerned about when I was 21 years old.

I didn't know all student sections weren't first come first serve. At MSU we just showed up early for big games, ran once you got thru the turnstiles, and fought our way down front if you wanted to be down front. There was no camp out and assigned seats. Just a general admission free-for-all.

Have you ever camped out for tickets in your life? That's all they do is drink.
At Ohio State student tickets are most definitely not first come first serve. Students go online and apply for seats (they can make groups with their friends), and then their seat location is determined by the total number of Credit Hours the students in each group have. The higher the Credit Hours the better seats. Therefore seniors are in the front with great seats, and poor little freshman are stuck in C-deck.
Pretty fair system in my opinion. Especially now that i'm a senior and am sitting in 37A :)
My couch and TV says they are crazy! I love going to games but never would I camp out for 3 days to go see a game, especially one that is going to suck for them! I might think about it for The Game but even still, I would just stop the drinking for a bit and save up to buy a damn ticket! If you want to go to the game that bad, a few hundred dollars is worth it than camping outside of a stadium so I can fight with fellow students for a seat that I am not guaranteed to get.
I'm sure there is drinking going on, but are the logistics worth it? I'm pretty sure they can't openly drink there, so they'd have to sneak their booze in. Then I'd want some way to keep my beer cold/and or ice for mixed drinks.
They do the same thing at Duke for Bball, right? Gotta admire their enthusiasm for this one, especially since they probably couldn't imagine any big games back when OU was continuing their nightmare of an offseason. No doubt that OSU being OSU has something to do with the turnout; take it as a compliment.
Also, from what I know, pretty much everything done at PSU is done wasted.
