I thought we could use a Halloween-themed forum today, and considering the success of the "Favorite Band" thread, I thought this could be fun.
I think it makes sense to have chocolate and non-chocolate categories.
My choices:
Chocolate: Reese's - the classic peanut butter cup, with honorable menion to 100 Grand and Hershey's Special Dark with Almonds.
Non-chocolate: Zagnut - hard to find, but love the peanut butter crunch with the toasted coconut. Also fond of Payday.
Of course, the king of all candies is the Buckeye, but I consider that more of a homemade confection and a year-round treat than a Halloween candy.
What about you?

Buckeyes!
"You win with people." - Woody Hayes
Chocolate: Nestle Crunch (the most versatile candy on Earth: enjoy straight up out of your freezer, use in s'mores, or add peanut butter to bathe your tastebuds in win), or anything salty
Non-Chocolate: Scotch
Chocolate: Take5's are awesome! I sift through my kids candy looking for them while they are tucked away in their beds. The wife finally decided to start buying me my own bag, LOL.
Non-chocolate: Mike+Ike's, the traditional flavored ones... none of those tropical fruit spin offs.
GO BUCKS!
Chocolate - Raisinets. I don't know why, but I can sit and eat these all day.
Other - Sweetart Jelly Beans year round. Delicious! Around Halloween though, I love Mellowcream Pumpkins.
You can kill a fly with your slipper or a cannon. Either way, the fly dies. -Ramzy
Chocolate: a toss up between Snickers, Almond Joy, Reese's or a good dark chocolate.
Fruit flavored: strawberry Twizzlers.
Old school: cow tails, jelly orange slices, and jelly spearmint leaves.
Rolos
Almond Joy
Peanut Butter Cups
In any order
In the non chocolate category it would be:
Nerds
Runts
"Because the rules won't let you go for three." - Woody Hayes
THE Ohio State University
100 Grand.....hands down! But you know what they say:
"Who can take a sunrise, sprinkle it with dew
Cover it with choc'late and a miracle or two
The Candy Man, oh the Candy Man can
The Candy Man can 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good"
....Well, Sammy Davis Jr. says anyways. Happy Halloween 11W's!
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
Reeses but only the holiday shapes cause they are better
Peanut butter twix
Kit kat
I specified the classic Reese's because the other varieties (holiday shapes, minis, giant, etc.) have different chocolate to peanut butter ratios, and I prefer the original.
KIT KATS! Frozen!
@ONE BAD BUCKEYE - Speaking of Sammy Davis Jr., "Rhythm of Life" is one of my favorites; immortalized below in an ad for one of my favorite kinds of "candy".
for chocolates i'll take the peppermint hersheys kisses....closest thing to the crack like nirvana of the aforementioned homemade buckeyes for me/
non-chocolate the old sour crybabies
All the games of the season are just practices for that glorious saturday in November when we get to jack Shoelace's invisible cereal bowl and drink our fill of delicious skunkweasel tears ...Michigan Still Sucks!!
Love anything with chocolate and peanut butter, must be my Buckeye bias.
Love Reese's, Take-5, etc. Love em.
“Any time you give a man something he doesn't earn, you cheapen him. Our kids earn what they get, and that includes respect.” - Woody
Take 5 is officially the greatest candy masterpiece ever assembled
Aero Bars from England is one of my favorites. They kinda brought them to the states via the Hershey kisses that are filled with air bubbles.
"Because the rules won't let you go for three." - Woody Hayes
THE Ohio State University
Chocolate - Hersey's with almonds or really any chocolate and almonds bar
candy - tie between caramel cremes and sour patch kids.
Reeses holiday shaped are so much better. Good call BUCKEYE06.
pb twix
snickers
kitkat
Homemade buckeyes out rank all of these btw.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
@BUCKEYENEER - Aero is delcious, as are Nestle's Lion bar (Kit-Kat-style wafer, covered in caramel, covered in Nestle-Crunch-style chocolate) and Cadbury's Flake and Crunchie--all English candy bars, and all available at your local World Market.
I might have to amend my first response, Cadbury Crunchies are the bomb. Chocolate covered honeycomb is my critical weakness.
Thanks for the tip about Nestlé Lion bars being available at World Market. Now I just need a source for Enola Nuga, or some other quality semi-hard nougat.
Chocolate(tie)
Rolos and mini-snickers in the freezer(this was the munch food of choice for my friends and i when we shared the bachelor pad some years ago)
Non chocolate
Bit-o-honey- its like peanut butter flavored taffy mixed with edible gum
It amazes me how many different variations there are of the same ingredients (chocolate, peanuts, caramel, nougat (whatever that is), etc.). Much like taco bell, where they create a different combination of the same ingredients and give it a made-up mexican-sounding name (but that is another forum topic).
I neglected to mention Peppermint Patties and Junior Mints. So many choices, so few teeth.
@Hodge, +1, I completely agree. Guiness is one of the most delicious beers known to man. I actually feel a little bit guilty drinking it sometimes, it's as if nothing is supposed to be so wonderful.
Maybe I'll have a keg of it on my porch next to the candy bowl for the dads to "warm themselves up" by when they're parading their rugrats around the block. :)...Nah, I'll just keep it to myself!!!
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
Not just Taco Bell! Mexican cuisine in general is the same way. Which begs the question, why do I love it so much? Oh well, no complaints, just more margaritas!

100 Grand. The most underrated candy bar there is..
Edit: One Bad - you already know this apparently!
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
I really like Zero bars.
Chocolate my favorite is Snickers.
Non Chocolate I am going beast mode with some skittles.
It's good to be home.
Chocolate:
Reese's peanut butter cup (refrigerated), Snickers
Non-Chocolate:
Nerds, Sweetarts, Sour Patch Kids
People are saying that I'm an alcoholic, and that's not true, because I only drink when I work, and I'm a workaholic.
Ron White
Chocolate - Heath Bar or Skor Bar (Skor is a little better)
Fruit - Caramel Apple Sucker, yumm!
@Hodge-Used to play ball in Illinois and our DLine coach's wife would watch the tape with hubby on Sunday nights. She was a teacher at the school as well and would call down any of the players she felt were deserving to her office. She'd give said player a crunch bar for every hit she felt was worthy. Always had a soft spot in my heart for that candy as the recipient of a few of them my senior year.
Otherwise, Reese's are the goods man. Reese's anything but pieces. The Big Cup...HELLO!
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
1) 3 Musketeers
2) Milky Way
3) Rocky Road
4) Peppermint Patties
5) Pay Day
"Zagnut - Zagnut's good." - Chevy Chase - Seems Like Old Times.
The world is full of kings & queens who'll blind your eyes & steal your dreams - it's heaven & hell - Ronnie James Dio.
Reeces PB Cup - a disguised Buckeye for the masses
Non - Chocolate - Payday
Black Jelly Beans
(it's an aquired taste)
chocolate: The take 5 bar is the greatest thing ever
non chocolate: payday
Old School - Good n Plenty! The black Jelly Beans made me think of that.
Sweet tarts. Easiest question ever, I will dinner on them tonight after I make my 2 year old grab as many as possible.
Chocolate: Nestle Crunch. Can't really go wrong. Milky Way in a close second for me.
Non-Chocolate: Tough call, but I take Starburst FaveReds any day of the week.
"I like to kick Michigan's ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum."
Junior mints! Try mixing them in with your hot popcorn while watching a movie! Yum!
Caramel is my favorite and as of right now my fav candy bar is the Black Salt Caramel Bar by Vosages. Pricey ($6), but worth it.
Payday for the non-chocolate fix.
I would take waterboarding over black jelly beans.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
That means more for me! You are the best!
In an effort to participate with a more traditional candy. For those who remember when candy bars were sold in school to raise money, the soft caramel in chocolate was pretty darn tasty, and not just because we had the munchies either!
Chocolate- nothing beats a Reese's cup, except maybe 2 Reese's cups
Non-chocolate- PayDay, nuts and Nougat, what more canI say
Frozen Zero Bars and Buckeyes
Time to visit the office vending machine... dang it...
GO BUCKS!
Does anyone know why they stopped making Twizzlers Twerps? Hands down the most addictive non chocolate candy I've ever eaten.
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
Chocolate- Kit-Kat
Non chocolate- Sweedish fish
Chocolate: Milky Way
Non-Chocolate: Hot Tamales
What candy is without equal? Nonpareils, of course. Also:
Chocolate: Reese's and Heath bars
Non-chocolate - Payday and Zero bars
Special mention: Whoppers! Malt should be featured in many more candies.
Chocolate- Peanut Butter Cups, Kit Kat, Crunch
Non-Chocolate- Starburst
I would have typically traded most of my candy hall for these particular pieces.
"I'll fire when I'm god damn good and ready! You got that?" - Pete "Maverick" Mitchel
Chocolate variety-- nutrageous bars, I used to refer to them as my addiction bars and try a left-hand brewing company milk stout if ya wanna good stout, it kills Guinness anyday, could drink em all night long
and non chocolate variety would have to say rootbeer dumdums, but maybe just partial cuz I make them and candy canes and just trying to promote them
Go bucks!!
“Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.” Ben Franklin
@ECARTMAN - If you're talking craft brew, my preferred poison of the stout and porter variety is Founder's Breakfast Stout. I'm also a huge fan of Great Lakes Blackout Stout, and their Edmund Fitzgerald Porter.
I, unfortunately, was born with a horrible sweet tooth. I had this debate with myself the other day though and my top 3 are probably Reese Cups, Plain old Hershey Bars, and turtles. There aren't many types of candy I don't like though. Maybe hard candy and dark chocolate and black licorice.
Snickers, Laffy Taffy, Sour Patch Kids, Reese's, and Peanut M+M's.
Buffalo Chicken Dip.
what can I say? I'd rather have seconds & thirds of "normal" food than sweets.
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
Goya LOVE Buckeyes! But since nobody really passes them out, I'd say Reese Cups and my Takes 5. Take 5. Is prolly the best thing ever invented!!!!
#Buckeyes
White Chocolate Toblerone, the wifes Buckeyes, and I have been known to steal Nerds from small children.
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
Hersheys w/almonds
Frozen reeses cups
Snickers
Nutrageous
Kit Kate are the jam, and twizzlers rock too!!!
Keep it old school:
Razzles,
bubble gum cigarettes,
Rolo's,
Toffay
D. Anthony
Chocolate fudge with potato chips.
@hodge Those are both excellent beers, have some Edmund Fitzgerald in the fridge right now. I brew beer and cloned that founders breakfast stout, and it turned out very comparable. I should've put it in bottles instead of my corny kegs cuz every time I drank two in a row, the second one didn't have as much choco taste but totally agree they're all fine poisons

I need a candy lineup to choose from. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEtprCbZzEo
Yuengling black & tan
O H I O is the Buckeye State
@Xtreme, no way dude, I consider myself a purist. Bass Pale Ale Black &Tan. Unless you're talking about the premixed stuff, which I've never had "the pleasure". I love guinness and yuengling so I cant see this being a bad combo either. Cheers man.
"I'm One Bad Buckeye, and I approve this message."
Non Chocolate..............Nut rolls and Zero Bars
Chocolate................Reese's and sixlets and Whoppers
Battles are sometimes won by generals; wars are nearly always won by sergeants and privates. Football is no different, the guys down in the trenches win the games, not the coach.
Chocolate: Reeses Cups, Buckeyes
Non: Mike and Ikes, Smarties
@cartman, you are so correct on the LeftHand Milk Stout. Excellent!
@NH-IO the stores in northwest ohio always sell outta that beer quickly, ugh. Been having to go to Toledo to stock up lately, but it's worth the hour drive for me. Ah my favorite candy!!
“Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.” Ben Franklin
Snickers, of course.
"It's just another case of there you are". ~ Doc (1918-2012)
snickers in the microwave for 4-5 sec
and sour patch kids
mark may wins douchebag of the year... again
TWIX and 100 Grand are definitely my two favorites. Butterfinger and Reese's are also great. Anything with dark chocolate, too.
Non-chocolate - Starburst. Jolly Rancher chews. Oh, and Skittles.
Class of 2010.
They make these little cube shaped chocolates that come from Sweden I think called, "Ice Cubes" that are the smoothest chocolate I've ever had but they are hard to find. You can buy them on Amazon but I haven't done so yet.
I like the holiday shaped Reese's and Kit Kats. I also love Butterfingers. Cant believe I forgot Zero Bars!
Non chocolate- would have to be Sour Patch Kids,
If you know how to make Buckeyes which is really easy to do, I like to use Honey Peanut Butter and Eagle Brand mixed in with the powdered sugar to make the peanut butter mixture taste better. It's also much smoother!!
Chocolate - Milky way followed by Butterfinger
Non - Hot Tamales followed by jelly beans
and Bass Ale takes it all
@One Bad Buckeye Yuengling is the first black & tan I've tried (my favorite candy so far) but I will have to try the Bass Pale Ale Black &Tan that you speak of.
O H I O is the Buckeye State
If we're talking regular pale ales, stone pale ale is perty dam tasty, or ya can never go wrong with a Sierra Nevada pale ale. I've seen a couple people now talk of the yuengling Black and Tan so I'm gunna hafta try one.
Go Bucks!!
