PSU BOT open meeting.

Don't know if any of you listened in on this, but it was kind of interesting.  Gene Marsh had the most interesting comments when he explained how the NCAA works.  I have the dialog of it if anyone wants to read it, but he basically explained how proceedings go in an organization comprised of voluntary members.  Many people championing the "due process" stuff and "proof beyond reasonable doubt" really need to hear/read his statement.

He also made it perfectly clear that it was the "culture" at PSU that brought about the drastic sanctions.  It kind of fell on deaf ears as half the board defended the "culture" as having produced teams of honor both on the field and in the classroom.  However, one board member basically told the others that they needed to get their shit together because his gauge of the nation through his travels is that the vast majority of people think PSU got off easy with the NCAA.  Another pointed out that they really needed to offer their Pres. their fullest support or they will face an impossible task of finding a new Pres. when his term runs up in the middle of 2014.

From what I heard, more than half of the board really gets it, and the rest are still really too butt hurt to see anything but red.  Interesting stuff.

This comes under the heading of "what if" but with the ongoing investigation of how Jerry Sandusky may or may not have shared those kids with others and the others possibly having ties to Penn State i'm wondering if any NCAA sanctions now in place would be or could be increased depending on how many more (if any) other folks are involved at Penn State? Would it be too late because the current sanctions are already in place ?

Battles are sometimes won by generals; wars are nearly always won by sergeants and privates. Football is no different, the guys down in the trenches win the games, not the coach.

Gene Marsh said that the NCAA reserved the right to re-open things if further facts come out (good or bad).  However, it had something to do with "mutual consent" to re-examine things.

BOTs are appointed.  I don't think they really get kicked off.

The sad thing is is that they think they are completely "just" in their cause. I wish they would realize the sae thing their one reasonable trustee said that 75% of the nation (me included) believe they got off easy and the nation as a whole believes (and they are proving it on their boards) that they are all about football. The argument I get is "what if this happened on the OSU campus" and unlike them I would want football shut down (and I love my buckeyes as much as the next guy) til the priorities were worked out. Just makes me sad that theres people out there who are this dillusional....
