This goes out to current students like myself and the old-timers. I want to get a perspective on what you all think are the best/worst bars around campus. I personally avoide Gateway like the plague due to the prices and the people that frequent that scene. I have been enjoying Midway and Fourth St. alot recently especially in the summer bc Midway has been poppin. The O Patio (4Kegs) is almost exclusively Greek life now so that hasnt been all to fun lately haha. Out R Inn is always a fun place when the weather is nice.

There's a bar at 19th and Summit that I've been to a few times and enjoyed, the name escapes me
Ugly Tuna, Fourth Street, and Tooooooooos. Class of 2012.
God, I can't believe Too's is alive and kicking. I remember going to that (literal) hole-in-the-wall because they'd serve a four year old in there as long as they had money.
Out-r-Inn always had a very chill atmosphere but I lived down south so I never made it there as much as I liked. Ugly Tuna just makes me feel REALLY old.
If you don't mind stretching your definition of campus then hit up Ruby Tuesday (Summit and 20th or there abouts) and Zeno's (3rd and Pennsylvania). I always loved the atmosphere at Zeno's and the music on Saturdays is awesome (long live Chebacca!) and Ruby's used to have $3.50 pitchers of the good stuff on Thursdays and live music.

Bernie's is fun, if just for the fact that Jeffery Dahmer used to drink there...sketchy joint, but fun. Personally, I dig quieter bars where I can chill with my pints, so I wound up spending almost all my free time at the Brazenhead in Grandview. They have a killer deal on Wednesdays, $3 burgers till 9, though they are packed as all Hell then. After about ten, the crowd really thins out, and you're left with 4-5 hours of Guinness-pounding awesomeness. They also just started carrying Magner's Irish Cider, which is infinitely better than Strongbow.
Bodega I know its in the short north but it is close enough and it has imo the best happy hour in town.
@hodge, no truer words have been spoken. You ever tried killkenny? Not sure if brazenhead has it but The Dublin Tavern does and man, its so good.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
Bodega is awesome, by far my favorite bar in Columbus...in terms of CAMPUS bars... Little Bar, The O, Too's (especially on Tuesdays)... Out-R-Inn is my favorite campus bar, nothing beats Mug Night...South Campus itd probably be Tuna, but Bier Stube is great, dirty, but great.. Lucky's isnt too bad either... if you venture downtown, every bar on Park Street is great but Cantina during the summer is fantastic... I think there is something like 27 bars within the 'Campus Area', at least there was when I was there, so the selection is endless...add in Short North bars, and the ones downtown and you can never go bored... nothing beats a good house party at OSU though
@BUCKEYEEDDIE - Can't say that I have, is it a pub ale, like Old Speckled Hen?
Chumelys is actually pretty fun on monday and thursday because its schooner night. Fill up your 32 oz chalice with any domestic beer on tap for $2 all night. Lots of tvs and food too
Not sure if it was mentioned, but the Thirsty Scholar (if it's still around) was always a decent stop for us. It was near the corner of Neil and Lane, beside the gas station, and had an all-you-can-drink deal on domestics ($8) and imports ($11) which was pretty dangerous
hodge, Its a cream ale. Sets up in the glass exactly like a guinness, drinks very similar to guinness too, but is just tan in color and has the taste of an ale more so than a stout.
never tried the old speckled, have to check that out.
brewed by the same folks as guinness btw.
*edit its spelled kilkenny. one L. my bad
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
@BUCKEYEEDDIE - Yeah, sounds just like Old Speckled Hen (Boddington's too). Check The Pub at Polaris, it's a bit expensive, but they do have tons of UK beer there.
Year before last I met some freinds there for my birthday. Sat at the tap-table and watched march madness. cool place.
I know there's a game saturday, and my ass will be there.
I heard of this cool place called "McFadden's" from my favorite sports scribe Pat Forde.
Taquitos.
Also, The Library is the best place on Earf.
Taquitos.
Lived up north all 4 years, Hendocks on Maynard and High was always my choice... 3 dollar white russians on Tuesdays, oh ya... Out r Inn is solid as is Toos... Little Bar when they have their irish drink specials
Cause I couldn't go for three
RIP Larry's.

RIP Papa Joe's, the best effing bar there ever was. I get misty eyed just typing this. I went to OSU in the late 80's, so all the good dive bars on High Street are gone. Still like the Stube and Out-R-Inn.
Time out. Larry's and Out R Inn are gone? This can't be true.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
What about Mama's? Is Mama's gone? Please guys, I can't bear this much heartache in a non college football season day.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
I'm with Denny on the Library. 75 cent martinis on Fridays 5-7pm when I was there. And with Bukyze also about Papa Joe's. Burned down my senior year.
Can't tell you how many times I was at Street Scene watching Chris Logsdon play. $3.25 32oz. Long Island Iced Teas.
@BREWSTER - Out-R-Inn is still there, Mama's might be gone, but I haven't heard about it closing.
GATEWAY! Ugly hour! Tuna is the best but if it isn't happenin you've got 5 more bars right there you can check out. The gateway is far from expensive. No different than any other bar..
you kidding? Gateway is overcrowded and pricy... ALWAYS have covers, just ridiculous..
Cause I couldn't go for three
Haha. When is the last time you have been there? Not one gateway bar has a cover. Tuna, kildares, Charlie, Gooeyz never have a cover. It is crowded because people want to go to those bars. Class of 2012. South Campus is where its at.
Was there is the early 90s, but my favorites were Out-R-Inn, Stube, Bearnies, South Hiedleberg, and Papa Joe's
@Brew - Larry's closed Dec. 28ish, 2008. I was there on closing night. Sad times.
@Brew & Hodge - Last time we tried to go to Mama's was last summer, and it was closed, but I don't know if that was seasonal (it was July).
And A++++++ to the Library. Natty on draft and foosball. What more could you want?

BED, I was bummed when I found out Larry's closed. That was definitely my favorite bar.
Bucksfan,
My roommates and I were regulars at Larry's from 2005-2007. Every Wednesday and Thursday night like clockwork, and occasionally on Friday and Saturday. Great place.
Larry Jr. closed it because it was getting too expensive to run and he had a buyer that was going to keep it Larry's, but it fell through. I'm sure we wouldn't have minded paying a bit more for our cheap beer to keep the same ambience.

Chris Logsdon at Street Scenes on a Tuesday night, boy does that bring back memories. Both good and bad. That is the ONLY Long Island Iced Tea I've ever consumed, for reasons I would rather not get into at this time.
I still like going to Bernies on High Street when we go back to campus for game days. It is never crowded and they serve breakfast for cheap. I was in Bernies the night OJ took his low speed drive.
Rest In Peace Papa Joe's. It burned down my third year of Dental school.
@BED, I'm pretty sure I could ask for more than Natty on draft... ;-p
Man, that's tough. I wasn't a regular at Larry's but it will always have a special place in my heart-It was the tipping point on my senior crawl in 2005. We started way North and worked our way down and by the time we hit Larry's I was feeling pretty good. By the time I left Larry's, I was out of my mind. I toughed it out for another few hours but they talk about the one punch that changes the tempo of a heavyweight title fight, well my 1 beer, 1 shot combo at Larry's was what ultimatley did me in. I'll never forget that place!
Thirsty Scholar (Free Popcorn son) and Out R Inn were staples for me. I lived in the apartment just across the alley from Out R Inn on Frambes so I wasn't a very far stumble from either place. Man...brings me back to a simpler time dudes.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
I spent 3 years at 85 W. Norwich. Even in the mid 90s we were able to get $20 each to park cars, and squeezed 10 into our lot for every game. Keg fund.
Out-R-Inn, Too's Underground and the Library... I usually was trying to play pool as well as drink, That being said Suzie Cue's (or Q's can never remember) is a pretty cool pool hall with free play on tuesdays and thursdays not to mention 7 dollar domestic pitchers.
The campus drinking scene went down hill with the construction of gateway imo...Just fabricated dance clubs with high prices and obvious non OSU students...I forgot to mention Too's which is pretty great. Nothing beats gamedays on campus...Every other house is having a party and the bars are always packed thts why I try to hit up the party scene
Thirsty Scholar, Library, Too's, and Little Bar were the ones I frequented the most. Would stop off at O Patio (4kegs) for beers and the occasional liquid dope on their slower nights.
Also, if you are into spirits, Barrell 44 is a good choice. They have a a large selection of bourbon, scotch, and whiskey.
Uhhh did someone up there just recommend Charlie Bear? Gag me
I forgot Little Bar... great gameday atmosphere
@hodge - can't believe you mentioned Bernie's. Had a friend play a gig there once...drank when I was under age...and saw some dudes just rolling joints in the booths. hilarious. Of course, the act cleaned up for senior bar crawl and whatnot.
Spent plenty of Tuesdays at Hendoc's for mug night.
Also Mad Mex's happy hour is legit.
I worked at the Varsity Club during my days in school, so I was always partial to that. Game days aside, it had decent crowds but never too crowded and had a nice patio bar. I hit up just about every bar on High St. with regularity so there weren't many that I disliked. The Gateway was relatively new during my latter years in Columbus, so it was easy to deal with and Lucky's was good too. I guess the central theme of this is that I clearly enjoyed going to the bars...ha
I was a commuter....my favorites were the Library, Scarlet and Gray cafe, Ledo's, Out-R-Inn, and R-bar.
EDIT: My staple bar was the Reagle Beagle....the only bar in town.
Graduated the year Papa Joe's brunt down.... It wasn't me!
Mean Mr. Mustard's was another bar I spent my student loan money. Also fertilized the shrubs outside of Zeno's back in the day..
