I think the picture halfway down the article is probably one of the best pictures I've seen for some time. Apparently the arresting officer, William Boledn, is an Ohio native and huge Buckeye fan.

To be fair, this Thompson character is a con man with no clear name/identity, which makes his dressing up as a Michgan fan quite appropriate. Many Michigan fans are poseurs and Walmart Wolverines blend into the background like so many other schelps. It was a pretty good disguise for someone who was trying to look harmless, feeble, and inconsequential, rather than the arch criminal he was.
