I know it's not necessarily Buckeye related, but I do know at least some of our 11W followers are IndyCar fans, and that at least a few were at this year's Indy 500 (including myself). Just a very sad day to have lost Dan Wheldon. He was a great champion, a great person, and a heck of a personality in a sport that was just starting to turn the corner in popularity. He leaves behind a wife and 2 very young sons, and a legion of racing fans across America. Dan was instrumental this past year in testing the new model of Indy car that is debuting next season. Apparently, he loved the sound of the turbochargers that they're finally bringing back to the engines, and many fans shared his enthusiasm regarding Indy's return to its roots.
It could happen to any one of those drivers out there at any time. And we do have a fellow Buckeye fan racing in the series - Newport native Graham Rahal, who finished 3rd in May's 500 behind Wheldon and JR Hildebrandt.
It's very sad, and I just wanted to post something in his memory. Feel free to post some words if you feel compelled.

Just sad. Although Im not much of an IndyCar fan, it's impossible to live in Indy and not be connected to the sport. I attend the 500 every year and saw both of his wins in person. My thoughts go out to his friends and family.

This is one of those moments that puts life in perspective. As a former racer, nothing brings you more joy than the adrenaline of speed but nothing hurts more than a day like this. RIP Dan Wheldon.
RIP, what a tragedy.

No matter how sh*tty the tour is, it's always tough to leave.
