Honestly, the most shocking part of this report might be the fact Rutgers provides internet to its students.

From Anthony G. Attrino of NJ.com:

"We are making progress towards restoring all network services to normal operating status and working with the Chancellors to develop contingency plans for online exams," the university said in a statement Thursday.

"The DDoS [distributed denial-of-service] attacks are ongoing and persistent," the school said the statement. A denial of service attack interrupts Internet service by overloading a network with traffic.

In a half dozen updates stretching back to Monday, the school has either said it was working to restore Internet service or that it continued to experience problems online. No estimated has been given for when service might return.

Students are taking to coffee shops and "eateries" to find serviceable internet service. That would be a pain anytime, but especially so if it's finals time like it is at Ohio State.
