Former Ohio State running back and assistant coach turned NFL assistant coach Tim Spencer—current fans are familiar with his son, former receiver Evan Spencer—is on the move again.

Spencer spent last season as running backs coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Though new Buccaneers coach Dirk Koetter retained Spencer, the RB coach elected to take the same position under former Buccs coach and current Illinois head coach Lovie Smith.

From coachingsearch.com:

Illinois: Per source, 49ers linebackers coach Hardy Nickerson will join the Illinois staff as defensive coordinator / linebackers coach, and Buccaneers running backs coach Tim Spencer will join Illinois as running backs coach. Nickerson spent the past two years under Smith with the Buccaneers and joined the 49ers this offseason. Spencer was Ohio State's running backs coach from 1994-2003 and coached under Smith with the Bears from 2004-12 and Bucs from 2014-15, and he was retained by Dirk Koetter.
