Alabama Wins SEC Championship Over the Lifeless Gators

The Florida Gators set offense back about six decades with a horrible effort against Alabama in the SEC championship game, falling 29-15. Florida was 0/11 on third down and scored only eight points on offense, on what was essentially a Hail Mary in the fourth quarter.

Florida had zero rushing yards after three quarters and finished with 15, and 180 total yards.

Florida hung around for awhile with outstanding defense but that eventually wore down as the Gator offense couldn't get anything going after the first quarter. Florida led 7-2 on a punt return touchdown after having one of its own punts blocked for a safety and also having a field goal attempt blocked. Bama went up 12-7 before the half.

A killer roughing the passer penalty on Florida kept Alabama's first drive alive in the second half and the Crimson Tide paid it off with a jump ball touchdown to effectively put the game out of reach. With Florida so inept on offense, there was little chance the Gators would come back once it got to 22-7 in the third quarter.

An Alabama loss would have benefited Ohio State and knocked the SEC out of the College Football Playoff. Now basically everything must go right for the Buckeyes to get in.

At least the Gators' fans are apologetic about the whole deal.
